I dont' know anything about Rome's past, didn't know if there was some story/accusation from back in the day that he was referring, so I thought it was a personal stab. I can see you thinking it might have been a backhanded comment about something that happened in the past but some will take it for what it was and think he was/is beating his wife. I didn't think there was anything to it, because I couldn't imagine Stern bringing it up if it was true. But I wasn't certain, so I checked around to see if there indeed was anything. Again, either way, a dumb move on the commish's part.

Kept his cool and really made the commissioner look like the smug, arrogant baby that he is. And when you seem smug and arrogant compared to Jim Rome you know somebody is really smug and arrogant.

June 13, 201214 yr Just listened to it ... Stern was a little aggressive, but frankly, it's warranted with Rome. I suspect the "beating your wife" comment is lost on the younger generation ... anyone over 40 probably gets it.

"Never have" sounds like a easy answer to this. There are many other ways stern could of chose to answer this question besides a simple yes or no. Stern just happened to the choose the worst possible answer and came off sounding like an idiot.
June 13, 201214 yr Everyone knows that Rome's show is scripted right? That he has a staff of over a dozen writers for his radio and Tv gigs. Even some of his interviews are scripted ahead of time so that the interviewee knows when to make a good punch line, or when to act offended. Im sure this is nothing more than the same. Everyone remember back a few years ago when the writers strike was going on........and Rome's radio show was all reruns and had random guest host.....he was "In the basement"......I mean he had no writers for his show.
June 14, 201214 yr Only way to avoid this going forward is to A.) change the draft format to make it where the team with most losses gtes first pick and so on, or B.) actually televise the drawing of the lottery balls themself. I'm wanting to say that only 3 balls get picked for the 1,2,3 picks and the rest goes in order by record, but I could be wrong on that. There's always going to be conspiracy theorists, and unless something like this happens it will always be criticized. Actually showing how the draft positions are drawn would be the only way to end any future drama. I mean imagine if they did not televise the powerball drawings, how many people would claim a fix on lottery earnings?
June 14, 201214 yr Author Dan Patrick summed up my thoughts perfectly. It was an accusatory question. The interview was more about the question vs the answer. Bad question as posed. He , like me, also said the commish failed in his response.
