Stern wasn't truly asking if Rome beat his wife. He was pointing out the absurdity of the question. I got an A in my interviewing class taught by one of the best professors at NKU, Dr. Proctor, so I'm good on how to conduct an interview. At the end of the day, Stern is the one who comes off looking terrible after this interview, not Jim Rome, due to how inappropriate his comeback question. Allow me to re-phrase. You're misinterpreting Stern's response. He was saying Rome asked him a gotcha question. The reply Stern gave has two answers. Yes, which implies he used to beat his wife, or no, which implies he still IS beating his wife. He wasn't actually saying Rome beats his wife, just that however he answers, he's screwed. It was still a terrible response to a legit question and made him look a fool, because most people are going to have the same reaction you did.

June 13, 201214 yr I'd question anyone's IQ who believes that. Sadly I would guess a good number do but if you listen to the interview and Rome's response it's clear you can tell what Stern was getting at by saying that. We have some pretty stupid people in this world though.

Now that I know this hasn't happened, I know what Stern was doing in his response. Even though I believe Rome should have worded the original question better, Stern took it to a completely different & much more personal level.

I can see you thinking it might have been a backhanded comment about something that happened in the past but some will take it for what it was and think he was/is beating his wife.
