Fair point.

Can a mod change the poll results to being private instead of public?

They don't have to post about it. All they have to do is vote.

I have been involved in the aftermath of several violent deaths through being a volunteer fireman in years past. It is not something that everyone can deal with and those images never leave you.

My thinking is that it will be one less barrier. I don't care who votes how. I just want an accurate picture.

OK, thanks to some tutorial help from the big dog, I edited the poll and the votes are now not public.

You'll never get that accurate count now.

That's ok. When ever we close the poll, we will argue over the definition of "vast majority".

I think I've seen more than my share, considering the fact that I'm 31 and I've never been any kind of first responder/rescue worker, and I've not been in the military.

When I was 14 years old I watched a classmate (and very promising high school football star) expire after asphyxiating while drunk and high - it wasn't a "violent" death, but it wasn't peaceful either. I found a dead man on a hot summer day in an un-air-conditioned cabin about 3 1/2 weeks post-suicide when I was 22. I was a passenger in a fatal car wreck about a year and a half later. Then last May I saw a pedestrian struck and killed by a pickup truck.

For what it's worth, I know of at least 5 other people who aren't on BGP who have all witnessed violent deaths.

Stunned by the results.

Glad I'm in the minority.

Wow. That's a lot of tragedy you've witnessed.

I've been there a few times when people lost their lives, but the one I would label "violent" was similar to that of FKYW. Self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head & I was there soon enough that the smoke from the shot still hung in the air.

Stunned by the results.

Why are you stunned? We have paramedics, doctors, nurses, and ER workers among us that you know of.

I know those professions plus police officers are exposed to it but what % of the people on here are in those? 10%?

I'd hate to hear all of the stuff Ram has had to call on.

Quite a few: from a airplane crash, to seeing a child who had his head run over by a water truck, to pulling bodies out of the Ohio River but none of those I knew. The worst for me was an employee who was killed in a robbery at the Hotel I ran in 1977 who I found dead after being shot! To this day, it still bothers me at times!

And there’s several Veterans - Vietnam, Iraq, and Afghanistan.
