Shannon Turner resigns at Cooper High School

I don't get this. I know she was liked by the players, but why would kids not play if they love the game. Maybe they will get a good new coach. How do you know a "good chunk" are not returning?

Did you every think that the kids didnt want to play anymore because of the parents? Either how the parents treat the coach, or the kid when it comes to playing.

When the parent does nothing but bash the coach and how "your a better player than her" "why is your coach doing this" starts from the moment you get in the car after practice or game till the next morning when you leave for school, every day, in season, out of season.

Some kids just get fed up with it. If they dont play, they dont have to deal with it from their parents.

As a coach in multiple sports I see it every year, every sport, there is one or two sets of parents that make the kid miserable during that sport.

Is there ever a time or situation when it is ok for parents to have concern and complain about a particular Coach?

Only if something immoral or illegal is going on and you honestly think that no one is aware of it but you.

Plantmanky, I do believe you have hit a grand slam with you comments and player/athlete rationale. Spot on!

Congrats to Coach Terwilleger! All the best!

Just to add to the thread, not to take away from the efforts of Coach Turner or the future success of Coach Terwilleger....

I have had both a daughter and a son play varsity high school basketball. I think that the girl's basketball parents expect more and are much harder to please than the boys basketball parents.

Having Coach Girls Basketball for a few years now I can agree with this. In the boys game, I think the play on the court kinda shows who the better players are over time. However in the girls game, unless you have a girl that is just superior than her teammates, it can look like Jill is better than Jackie when shes not.

Even more so, I think girls basketball parents have a real issue with understanding that certain girls may have a role on the team, maybe shes not the best dribbler or passer, but a great defender and re bounder.

Welcome to Cooper Coach Terwilleger! I used to officiate some of his games in Ohio. He is a good coach, and a great person. He will continue to coach whether up by 20 or down by 20. I haven't heard his name in a few years, has he been coaching in NKY? I officiate girls basketball in Ohio, but have nieces playing basketball in NKY. Hopefully he finds the parents at Cooper to be open to him....Best of luck....

Is this the same Josh Terwilliger who coached the women's team at Cincinnati Christian University a few years ago? If indeed he is, then I'll make the comment that he definitely knows the game. Best of luck.

Yes, he did coach at CCU for 3 or 4 years. I did a few of his games there.....

I read on another thread there were some players from the Shining Stars National Championship team that go to Cooper. Any word on what's going on over there. Must be some talent if they played on an AAU championship team. How many we're on the team...1, 2, 3 ?

Based on the roster from a previous thread I believe there were 4 girls from Cooper between the 2 teams.

Heard rumors of some of those Cooper girls transferring to Boone. Any truth?
