I am an outsider, but even though I am from across the river, how does Boone County get all the transfers? They seem like the only program I ever hear about in regards th transfers.

Just my opinion and I have no connections to Boone. I have a girl in a different system. Boone has historically been the "go to" school for girl's bball in NKY since their coach has been there. She has built a winning reputation and parents want their girls to play for the best. If you are from that area and are committed to bball, that's where a lot of them end up. Some will say she recruits, but it's more of an established winning program that recruits for itself. I'm sure she greets them with open arms once shes allowed, but I don't believe any wrong doing. Maybe I'm naive. But they say the same thing about Highlands football, but I believe it recruits by it's reputation as a winner and the school's reputation in education.

Fair enough. I guess Boone County has open enrollment rules that allow the transfers. In Ohio, you have Colerain football and you have Northwest football. Same district but all the football players seem to always end up at Colerain. Northwests varsity couldn't beat Colerains freshmen team....

Back to this thread and Cooper, I hope kids don't bail out and that they give the new coach a chance....

Heard rumors of some of those Cooper girls transferring to Boone. Any truth?

Very difficult to do in Boone County. First, you have the KHSAA transfer rules which would make it very difficult for any player with varsity experiance to transfer without a relocation. Boone County also has a strict districting system which has defined residential boundries that define assigned schools. About the only way you get around it is for a parent to become employed by the school district.

Then I would ask you how the Moss family was and is able to do this? I always thought that they lived in the Ryle district and from what I have been told still do?

It might be difficult, but they seem to get a lot of transfers (more than other schools for girl's bball). Even the guy from Ohio thinks so. I suppose they could move into the district or (what some others I have heard do) get an apartment in the distict. I'm sure there are ways around it. If a parent wants to do what they feel is best for their child, they will find a way around it.

If you are willing to relocate, you can get away with anything. If you want an example of parental determination, look no further than here:

I heard that the girl is transferring because the parents are splitting.

I read on another thread there were some players from the Shining Stars National Championship team that go to Cooper. Any word on what's going on over there. Must be some talent if they played on an AAU championship team. How many we're on the team...1, 2, 3 ?

I heard most if not all the Cooper players were on the second team that placed 5th in the D2 AAU Nationals. Still quite a accomplishment as it can only help the high school program. Doesnt a Cooper parent run the Shining Stars? Thats probably why most Cooper players were on the team.

From what I saw I didnt seen anyone that would make Boone's squad if they are transferring for basketball.

Make the squad or start? To say they would not make the squad would be a far stretch. You can't tell me Boone has 11-12 girls better than the top 2-3 from Cooper. Then Boone better win the state! No, Cooper didn't have a great year last year, but what I know is they had a good sophomore class last year. They will be juniors this year, so they should be more competitive. I think that group won the freshman region when they were freshman. I know some don't put a lot of stock into freshmans championships and I tend to agree, but you still have to have some good players to win that. So again, I'd find it hard to believe that Cooper wouldn't have a couple of their top girls that could contribute for Boone this year if they were transferring.

Thats fair enough. I do think Boone will be down and far from winning the state but I still think they will end up winning that district. Plus you never know what their roster will look like by the time season starts. I do think Cooper will be better especially watering the schedule down some. Their district was tough enough but looking at the KHSAA scoreboard their out of district and region games were tough. Not sure as a starter school they are ready for that but I understand it preparing for proabably the toughest district in the 9th. Just hope the Cooper girls stay. I have heard there is alot of middle school talent that may not end up playing at Cooper. I hope not.

Coper winning the district???? Not sure on that but will follow and see how your prediction will turn out. I watched the Conner team a couple times over the summer and to me out of the gate they are the favorite. They look to have a pretty good nucleus and some senior leadership. I think it will be Conner and Ryle out of the distict, not predicting who wins it. I know you cant rule Boone out with Nell but unless they have some strong players coming into the program I think they may have a difficult time performing up to Nell's normal standards. I agree with the other reply stating the Smith girl will be strong, her with Johnson, Oliverio and some of the young talent Ryle always has I think they may end up the best in the distrcit. cant wait till the ball gets tossed and these girls start to play!

I meant Boone winning the district. Though they may be down I wouldnt be surprised if they won it.

Only one girl from cooper played on the National Championship team. The other three played on the other. They have been playin since sixth grade together. In the three years at middle school they only lost three games and did win the freshman tournament against NCC. Some of the girls from middle school left after their freshman year. They are a tough group of girls that can play and play all year long on the shining stars and other AAU teams.
