A serious blow to the Ravens. He is the guy that gives the Steelers so much problems.

Ravens linebacker Terrell Suggs has confirmed that he suffered a torn Achilles tendon while working out last week, but he says that’s not as bad as it sounds.

 

Suggs told ESPN’s Rachel Nichols that he suffered only a “partial Achilles tear” and will be back on the field by the middle of the 2012 season.

Hope he can make a full recovery, torn achilles can be a nast injury. Sucks for the Ravens, not even summer yet and they've already lost one of their best players for a better part of the season.

He says he hurt it during conditioning and not basketball.

Yes and no. Obviously Suggs is one of the best defensive players in the NFL, so with him out it is good. However since it is the first game of the season, and the Bengals not having any idea what type of style now they will use without him, it will be hard to prepare for somewhat. They might come out blitzing a lot more, or many things and they have the whole off season to game plan on how they will attack things now without Suggs. The Bengals won't have the luxury of seeing how the Ravens run their defense without Suggs, since it is the first game. So it is good and bad IMO, but I still will say it is more good obviously for the Bengals.

With all due respect, I trudged thru that post and will say this....you're out of your flippin' mind if you think Baltimore will change their M.O. one scant iota. You're gonna have the same deal on the back end with Ed, Ray in the middle, Ngata taking a double and beating it half the time up front. So, yeah, same crap you usually see out of that D, and you gotta extra half second because Suggs is parked, no more no less!

With all due respect, your out of your flippin mind if you don't think that a team may actually think about having to blitz even more after losing one of if not their best defensive players. A player who is one of the top 5 pass rushers in the NFL, a guy who by not having will make the Ravens pass rush not quite the same as it would be with him. Which then also would mean, that they may blitz even more to try to pick up the pressure that they would have been getting from Suggs alone. Much more reasonable to think that they may decide to blitz even more now, now that their best rusher is done. Much harder to believe that they or any team will try to stay the same way when they will be replacing him with a guy not even as close as good as he is when rushing the passer. So with them having all off season, very safe to say they will probably try some more new things like blitzing even more and from different spots, than what they do when Suggs is there.

Hmmm lets not forget that while the Ravens like the Steelers have had great defenses for many of years, the Ravens UNLIKE the Steelers have changed their philosophies and still dominated on defense. They have been a 4/3 team when they started their defensive run, then a 3/4 team, and I think back to a 4/3. They have been a defense under Marvin Lewis who didn't blitz as much and leaned on their defensive lineman taking up blocks for Lewis. They are a defense under Rex Ryan who blitzed from everywhere possible, they are a defense who switched again after Ryan left, they are a defense who under their defensive coordinator last year started to blitz a little more again after a year of not doing it. They are a defense who has switched how they have done things, under different defensive coordinators. Which they once again have a new defensive coordinator. So while you are right that they Ravens, just like the Steelers have had great defenses, they have not done it the same way as the Steelers. With the Steelers it has been a 3/4 and knew it would be the zone blitz stuff. The Ravens have changed how they do things many times over the years, but still been successful. Now they have Lewis who is getting older, they just lost their best pass rusher, so yes there is more reason to believe that they just may blitz more this year, especially the FIRST GAME OF THE YEAR. Teams every year come out showing a little different things, especially first game of the year. Now without having Suggs, they very well may decide to blitz even more than they did with him, if they feel they won't be able to get as much pressure without him.

 

Maybe you should learn that even though the basic stuff is the same between the Ravens and Steelers in relying on great defense and just playing tough hard nose football. The Ravens have done it a little different and have shown that they will change how they do things on defense, but yet still be great at it. Maybe you will present true things to the discussion next time, instead of acting like the Ravens don't change, and acting like its crazy that they will blitz more. When their style on defense has change many times over the years, just the end result has not changed.

God, reading your diatribe makes the rest of my hair fall out. Suggs out won't change what they do. I stand by that. They didn't change DCoordinators. They lost a pass rusher. They'll plug another one in.
