May 1, 201214 yr As many know the Bengals signed undrafted LB from AZ St Vontaze Burfict...At one point last year he was the Best College LB and also a Heisman hopeful...He was also the #1 LB in the Nation coming out of High School...I have seen stories comparing him to Ray Lewis...He seems to have all the tools and could make the Bengals look really smart for not wasting a pick on a LB...What are everyones thoughts on the signing??? I don't see a problem with it personally and I think he turns out to be a stud after getting a second chance...I will link some new stories to him as well as post his highlight real from youtube... May 1, 201214 yr He had some VERY bad workouts and apparently is well known for taking plays off. There is a reason every team decided he wasn't worth drafting. With that said its not very risky to sign him as a UDFA. If it works out, great...if not who cares?
May 1, 201214 yr I watched the video. Looks talented but it also looks like he is bent on making big hits vs. using proper technique at times. Additionally, I did like the fact he helped the QB up on one play. I agree with H20, nothing to lose here but I do think he needs the coaches up his behind full-time if he is going to make it.
May 1, 201214 yr The guy was a stud at one time. But he is very immature. Plenty of personal fouls, ran over 5 second 40 at the combine, failed a test at the combine(how do you do that), and his teammates called him a cancer. But, comes very cheap and the Bengals have high reward and little risk. Also, the Bengals already have the reputation for taking players like this.
May 1, 201214 yr Low risk and potentially a very high reward. It will be fun watching how this plays out. A buddy described him as, "Think Patrick Willis with Metta World Peace mental problems".
May 1, 201214 yr He has to be getting the most pub of any Bengals UDFA ever. There is less than low risk it's actually no risk.

May 1, 201214 yr He does not have Patrick Willis abilities or work ethic IMO. That guy is a huge 49ers fan, which probably explains the comparision. He's actually a big ASU fan too. I saw it on Twitter, so I'm not exactly sure what he meant, but I would assume style of play like Willis.

I think Burfict could turn out to be a good player. But the Willis comparison is just a little much for me.

Although not an UDFA, Ahmad Brooks got a lot of praise as the next great MLB. We saw how that turned out in Cincy. However, he's doing well in SF. I do like the pickup though as it is very low risk.

But the Willis comparison is just a little much for me. Other people (who know much more about football than you or I) have compared him to Ray Lewis, so I wouldn't say a Willis comparison is as insane as you think it is. Now having said that, I don't for a second think he'll amount to 1/10th of the player that either Lewis or Willis are, but he's obviously got some special skills if he was drawing Lewis comparisons.

If memory serves me correct Brooks was a third round supplemental draft pick that Marvin didn't want and Brown took anyway. The Gals tried to play him in the middle and he could never pick up the defense. Add that to banging some heads around town and Brooks ended up in SF where the 49ers have done a much better job of matching his skill set.

Other people also said he's simply not a good football player. If GM's thought there was a good chance he's the next Ray Lewis why didn't 1 team take a chance and draft him?

It wasn't just banging anyone's head it was his girlfriend's. To me any man, much less one of NFL size, is someone I wouldn't want to work with or be on any team I follow or am a part of.
