In the playoff game and I kid you not, I was honestly worried as was the HHS guys too, that the press box was going to come down at any moment due to the jumping of the fans in the stands below.

 

Might I suggest you contact one Bishop Foys as he is the one who holds the answer to your question.

 

I was led to believe by a person who would know at CovCath, when we were playing at Johnson Central prior to the start of the game, that our new stadium would be something on the line of what they have in Johnson Central, with a much, much larger press box!

Could Cov. Cath. break free of the diocese? Become financially independant. I believe that Trinity and St. X do not receive any money from the Diocese of Louisville. ( I maybe wrong. We are not Catholic and pay a fee at Trinity because we are not) However, I do not believe either school receives significant funds. I know they do not need permission to spend money on academics or athletics.

 

No. Cov Cath was created as, and still is, a completely diocesan school (even though it was originally operated by Marianist brothers). The property deeds belong to the diocese, as does the payroll of the administrators. Even schools that are not direct property of the diocese (e.g. - Notre Dame Academy) operate under the permission of the diocese, and can hypothetically be told to cease and desist their operation as a school were they to do something that flew in the face of Catholic teaching or diocesan policy.

I've been told by folks in the know that Bishop Foys has (finally) given his approval for Cov Cath to proceed with their current improvement plans for the campus....including lights and a new grandstand/pressbox. This has been the longstanding last hurdle in the path towards lighting up Wooten Field.

Remember you just can't install light without making improvements to the stands in the visitors section or to the right of the press-box on the home side of the field. Both current seating section were grandfathered in but if improvement are made to the field, then those seats must be removed and replaced!

I think that will certainly be the goal, yes. However, lights are just one part of a complete stadium renovation, including the construction of a new grandstand & pressbox on the west side of the field (opposite the current pressbox location). Assuming the funds are all accounted for, which may or may not be the case at this point, it will be a tall order to accomplish everything by next fall, seeing as they are going to have to accomplish everything while working in conjunction with football, soccer and track schedules, but it's do-able.

Why would you change anything? The most important thing for the school is to Turn-Out great Christian young men. They do that like no other shcool in NKY. I am always impressed with what they do and don't believe changing anything to get a better stadium and/or football facilities is the right direction.

 

If they break away from the disocese then I would imagine they lose more than they gain. The Bishop and Disocese has a duty to do what is best for all of the Young people they are educating, not just the athletes. I don't believe nyone could criticize their performance and management in that regard.

Correct about the capitol campaign. As I understood it though, the field renovation was intended to move forward ahead of the other improvements implicated in the capital campaign. Then things got held up completely when the signing-off required by the diocese was held up on the bishop's desk. (Not entirely unlike some of the events that took place during the addition of their new science wing.)

You mean they put higher importance on things other than football? Blasphemy I tell you.

 

Kudos to the Board, Capital Budget Committie, Boosters, Bishop or whoever else prioritizes what is done with the Capital money. They produce great people and they shouldn't change a thing.

The real question is this, will the lights go up at Cov Cath before the dome stadium is built over at....................you know the place............over there..................at that school over there............... :jump:
