I have seen lights on only one side of a field that are better than lights all the way around. All depends on the lights/angles/and placement.

These are tennis courts at Wake Forest. Admittedly, the lighting scheme is not as desirable as having 360º lighting...but it IS doable if the circumstances require. My guess is, there aren't all too many situations were lights can't be 360º.

^ Good Post CWB, If you notice the corner lights point more out towards mid court, thats what the football lights I would assume do. Its one of those sights you kinda have to see to understand that it can work but it does.

I always felt like the Sat afternoon games were a huge advantage to CovCath. It always threw a twist in schedules, more time to prepare for Sat game but a day less to prepare for next wks Fri nite game. Playoff teams rarely fared well at CovCath on Sat afternoons.

I understand the lights for soccer games, longer football practices and other events that normally dont utilize the field because of darkness and not enough time in the day but are they considering keeping the football games on Sat afternoon?

Or because they will have lights they must play on Friday nites?

My guess is the later, well I guess nothing is sacred anymore............No pun intented.

I would have to assume that if we have a lighted facility at our disposal, we would have to at least host playoff home games on Friday nights. I would guess it would probably take some kind of approval from the visiting team and/or the KHSAA to have regular season games on Saturdays as well.

On the bolded, I think that had more to do with CovCath than the day of the week.

 

People who talk about the Saturday thing being an advantage for CovCath, are missing the boat. At most, it was a mild two-week distraction for any visiting team. CovCath dealt with the issue for 10 weeks. Short week, long week, short week, etc. How that turns into a advantage for CovCath, I don't know.

 

My guess is, CovCath coaches are happy about having lights so they can finally get back on the same schedule as everyone else and not have the disadvantage they faced without lights.

I honestly think a lot of folks are missing the real reason for the lights! Practice time and yes I know about the new fields behind the baseball field that won't be ready for another year but honestly the lights are needed for practice time for the many different teams/sports to extend the time that practice can take place. It has nothing (okay a little bit) to do with having games on Friday night!

Yes, one could spin it that way as well. With that said most opposing coaches either scheduled its bye week before or after the titanic struggles that once existed on Sat afternoons in Park Hills.

Now that was for regular season games but playoff games for teams that may never had played on a Sat every plus the fact teams dont have the luxury of resting before or after is a huge advantage to CovCath. JMO.

And yes if it is the 4th wk of the playoff then you are correct, CovCath is really good and nobody is going to beat them.

If that was the case and everyone here were at the games on Saturday, we would have a full house.

But the fact of the matter is attendance have been going down for years.

It is no longer the only game in town, many middle schools have there own games on Saturday.

I know of a couple of parents who have to make a choice to which kids game do they go to.

More students work or have there own game or meet.

One more thing the players hate playing on Saturday, no the time has come for Friday Night Lights.

Look for the first game upper lights to be against Moeller.

Good points about competing with other Sat events.

Soooooo, I guess the new facilities with expanded seating, etc will draw bigger crowds.

CovCath is going to be really good this yr and I think you will see a huge increase in attendance whether they play on Sat or Fri. JMO

I agree. Friday will get better crowds including getting more students.

Ditto...yard work will not be an excuse not to go any longer. More students and alumni will start their Friday evening off with a game at CCH. The Griffin Center should also see more activity.
