March 27, 201214 yr Okay, so this weekend UK and UofL are duking it out in the final four. I have to say, nobody really expected it at all. I honestly can't begin to tell you how excited I am for the game regardless of what everyone thinks the outcome will be(I'm a UofL student/fan). I really want to get down to New Orleans with a bunch of friends, or at the very least have a good time in Louisville. Back Story: A couple of months ago I told my parents that I would go on a family trip to Gatlinburg for this weekend because it's both my little brother and sisters spring break. My older brother, who I only see about once every couple of months is going too. My parents really wanted me to go because it would get the whole family together for an entire weekend. As it turned out, I had completely forgotten about the trip all together until this past Sunday after UK won. I called my parents house to chat about the big game next weekend and to tell them that I wanted to go to New Orleans for it and that I was super excited. That's when my mom reminded me that I had agreed to go to Gatlinburg, and that she still expected me to go regardless of the game(major bummer). Honestly, Gatlinburg is one of the last places I want to be this weekend, only because the game is so huge. I mean come on, When is the next time UK and UofL are going to meet in the final four? On the other hand, I feel bad not going to Gatlinburg with my family because I had already agreed to go. I love taking trips with the family and I think it will be a nice time. Why couldn't the Gatlinburg trip have been any other weekend? Watching the game in a quiet cabin with the family just isn't the setting I would like to be in for the game if you know what I mean. I'm not sure what to do and it's really annoying me. PS, The whole family supports UK.
March 27, 201214 yr What HT said...Doesn't seem like much decision to me. FWIW, I'm watching the game with my Dad Saturday instead of a party with my friends. Types of things you'll regret not doing more often down the road.
March 27, 201214 yr There are few people on earth genetically programmed to love you. That is your family. Ditch them and head to New Orleans and meet me on Bourbon Street.
March 27, 201214 yr ..and if you parents say "it's OK, we understand" they're lying. Plus it's ONE more chance to hang with your little brother. You're 21. You don't fully understand so trust us old dudes.
March 27, 201214 yr I agree that you have to do the family thing. I feel for you though... It's going to suck not being in Louisville or New Orleans for this one. In the end, you'll have fun with the family. I always enjoy kickin' back and watching a game with my Dad. There may not be another UL-UK Final Four game, but there will be plenty of other opportunities to rage while you're still in college. Besides... Louisville is going to be one depressing place after Saturday anyways.
March 27, 201214 yr Author Thanks for the advice guys. You all are right, being a son/brother comes before being a college kid. The timing just really bites.
March 27, 201214 yr Family! You will be making awesome memories with your little brother and sister, too. So important. In ten years, they'll be like "Remember that weekend we were all in Gatlinburg and UK kicked U of L's butt in the final four and our difficult middle brother was the only one rooting for U of L? That was SOOO much fun!"
March 27, 201214 yr No question, New Orleans. Just joking, got to go with the family. I will be in St. Augustine with my family instead of at a Final Four party.

March 27, 201214 yr I usually like to watch big games in my home and focus on the game. But one of my favorite memories of watching a UK game was in the 2005 tournament when the Cats played Michigan State. I was at a cabin in Gatlinburg on a family trip. That was the game where Sparks hit the 3 at the buzzer that was reviewed and reviewed and sent the game to the second overtime. Even though the Cats lost that game it is still a great memory watching the game with my family.
March 27, 201214 yr Gatlinburg doesn't have sports bars? For God's sake, the place is Hillbilly Paris; there's bound to be UK and UofL fans there, probably in a similar situation as you.
