March 27, 201214 yr Thanks for the advice guys. You all are right, being a son/brother comes before being a college kid. The timing just really bites. To echo most of the others in the thread, it may bite to you now but years down the road you probably won't even know how to get in touch with the crowd you want to go to New Orleans with but you'll be glad you spent the time with the family. Besides when UofL gets crushed you can still walk out to a peaceful mountain view and not 50 thousand drunk celebrating UK fans!
March 27, 201214 yr Gatlinburg doesn't have sports bars? For God's sake, the place is Hillbilly Paris; there's bound to be UK and UofL fans there, probably in a similar situation as you. I was actually in Gatlinburg for the first game this season on New Year's Eve. To say that there were UK fans there is an understatement. The place was crawling with UK blue. And yes, every bar in downtown had the game on every TV you could find.
March 27, 201214 yr As far as timing goes, everyone important in my life knows to never plan any trips during March Madness.
March 27, 201214 yr As far as timing goes, everyone important in my life knows to never plan any trips during March Madness. If this is serious, that's pretty sad.
March 27, 201214 yr If this is serious, that's pretty sad. Come on now. A lot of people plan for March Madness or other sporting events. Knowing that UK or Murray State would potentially be really close to home I was cautious of my schedule in advance. Obviously if something more pressing came up I would do that as would RomanEmpire, but that is no different than planning for a typical vacation. I do not have the luxury of seeing UK in person very often or live in close proximity; MSU I rarely get to see in the NCAA tournament. I do not think my life is sad for being a little cautious in advance not to schedule something during that time.

March 27, 201214 yr To each his own I guess. :idunno: I think you are taking it way too literally. We go to the OVC tournament and Derby every year. I know well in advance not to schedule something for those weekends. As I said, if something more serious comes about obviously I miss it. I do not consider my life sad since I (and millions of others) make plans in advance for leisure type things.

March 28, 201214 yr Thrill, I think this is one of those many life choices where you know what you WANT to do vs what you SHOULD do. Life is full of them. Take the high road. Go to Gatlinburg and don't pout. Have a great time.
March 28, 201214 yr I will be at my neice's 1 year birthday party. Come 6 o'clock we will probably turn the Lion King (insert Disney movie here) off and the UK game will be on. If this does not happen, I will probably be at the nearest sports bar with the rest of the "men" in the family.
