March 11, 201214 yr From both links, it sounds as though Mr. Brown did not handle himself with the respect owed Gov. Christie. Even though, Gov. Christie's use of the word "idiot" does not show the respect due a military veteran. No win for either man here.

March 12, 201214 yr According to the transcript, the fact that the gentleman was a Navy SEAL was brought in after Governer Christie called him an idiot, so respect for his veteran status plays little-to-no role in the scenario. Also, while I DO respect men for serving in the military, that does not mean they are deserved of a completely inalienable degree of respect. Timothy McVeigh was an Army veteran, and John Allen Muhammad was a Gulf War veteran - but I certainly have no reason to respect them for their actions following their military careers. Shouting from the audience has never been considered respectable or acceptable at town-hall type events like these. Mr. Brown did nothing but ask for Governer Christie to yell at him as he did, and I have no problem with the Governer's frank response. Mess with the bull...you get the horns.

The rest of your post I agree with but would add I believe he did do something to lessen respect at that particular moment. You could be right, that there really wasn't any indication that he is former military. Yes, I do believe that he lost some respect in my eyes. Idiotic? Not so sure on that one. He was passionate, but disrespectful.

March 12, 201214 yr I agree with Leatherneck and C_W_B...ex-military or not, a veteran deserves no free pass for that when it comes to respect for others or idiocy.
