Madson not yet ready for mound work

Recommended Posts

GOODYEAR, Ariz. -- Reds closer Ryan Madson, who has not pitched in a game yet this spring because of right elbow irritation, has still not been scheduled to see action.

Madson has been throwing the last couple of days but hasn't been moved up to the next step of working in a side bullpen session.

"We're just moving forward with playing catch," pitching coach Bryan Price said Friday. "Once he can show he's done everything he can do on flat ground, he'll graduate to a mound."

So wait, the reds signed this guy, who started camp with elbow/arm issues? Did they not do a physicall on him and work him out some to make sure he was physically ok?

Some people just love to complain without knowing the facts.

He was given a full physical before he signed, passed. He took another physical at the very start of Spring Training, passed. The MRI and testing done on his elbow showed it was a very recent tearing of the ligament, meaning it happened in the past couple days. Bad luck, simple as that.
