  1. Lafayette fumbled on their first drive. They were really moving the ball down the field. Scott Co drove about 80 yards. Noah Hughes TD. Missed extra point.
  2. Surprise for Sam Simpson - ABC 36 News Henry Clay head football coach Sam Simpson was honored today by Dove as one of four national recipients of the “caring coach” award
  3. They (politicians) can just mandate it and give no funding or assistance of any kind - like they do everything else in education.
  4. BGP - a place where anger and hatred can be switched from one party to another in less than 20 posts. I was ready to post something to the effect of "Will we ever see a day when criminals are the ones held accountable for their actions?" Thinking of the guy ramming a police car. If the officers harassed the guy and then shot him and his son over a grudge, death penalty.
  5. That is crazy. I can't believe the officer was able to get up. Can they give the death penalty for attempted murder?
  6. There were some rumors today that B Station was going to walk off the field in protest of their coach being suspended. Glad the rumors were false. Anyone got a final score?
  7. Death penalty. Immediately if not sooner.
  8. Death penalty advocate here... This scenario is exactly the reason why.
  9. Wins and losses matter, but can't and shouldn't be the only factor.
  10. i got there just after half time tonight. It was a 7 point game. Cov Cath had the ball and lots of momentum (kudos to the Cov Cath crowd - they were loud). Fumble. Scott Co recovers (took the official forever to signal SC ball - the fumble was very close to the sideline). Changed the game. SC scores quickly and never looks back. Kendrick Hamilton had a huge game. Cov Cath QB is a really nice player. Pitzer is also really good (is their dad a former Conner Cougar who was also a really good football player in the 80s?) Hopefully SC gets Keith Guy back soon.
  11. I've been to several games and have not seen anything that would lead to a "reputation for late hits". Tonight I only made it for the second half. I didn't go to Elder.
  12. The policy in my district is to clear the room, call the parent, only call for an officer if the student gets aggressive, only touch the student if she is a danger to self or others. Defiance does not warrant physical contact.
  13. Wow. Surprised by this score. I'm assuming Keith Guy was out as expected, but I'm surprised that SC only put 14 points on the board.
  14. 1984 - c'mon man. The point of the post was to give a glimpse of how hard it is some days. If we want to start a thread about awesome stuff that happens in schools I can fill that page up too.
  15. I can agree with a lot of this. I think there are a lot of educators who believe that a major overhaul needs to take place in education so that kids will develop 21st century skills and that the current model of accountability does not reward anything other than test prep. I will disagree that it isn't harder than other jobs. Yesterday I personally administered Diastat to a kid having a seizure only to watch the parent refuse to let EMS take the student to the hospital. I personally worked with a student who regularly threatens to kill staff and occasionally rips off her clothes and spreads the blood from her period all over the walls. Oh, btw, the state sees no difference in how she is tested for accountability so once we get her new clothes we have to get back to the required content. I got blasted by a parent who didn't like that her kid got a B after the kid was allowed to make up missing work and still didn't turn it in. I had an email from a parent who said I wasn't a real Christian because our boys basketball tryouts are on a Wednesday night that should be reserved for church. I got another email saying that "See You At The Pole" is a religious event that should be outlawed and threatened to go to the news and Westboro. We welcomed a transfer student who was kicked out of a boarding school because his behavior was not acceptable there. I ended the day working with the local police to try to help locate an 8th grader who ran away from home on Friday night and is still missing. My Facebook status is about how wonderful out chorus concert was... because it was great and because our "customers" can't handle the rest of the story. And they shouldn't have to. So teachers keep all that compartmentalized and do their best to put great value on each parent's concern. But when someone wants to argue about a clear dress code violation, it seems kind of ridiculous compared to all the rest. It may seem like "power and control" are the goals but really things like dress codes are in place to eliminate subjective issues and allow educators to focus on teaching content. To then be insulted about being an "educated idiot" and "unable to think" and bein told how the degree isn't difficult to obtain just didn't sit well. Education is hard. People have no idea. I described one day... Haters gonna hate.
  16. And if you've never been in an educational role within a school, your frame of reference is also limited.
  17. Or go talk with the the SBDM with your concern. There are parent and teacher reps who DO have the power to make a change in the school policy. Deciding that the policy doesn't apply in an emotional fit is NOT the way to go about it.
  18. Walk a mile in the shoes of an educator...
  19. A code is set. The clothes don't meet the code. The family knows the code but gets mad anyway. Who can't think?
