Word has it that W-burg will have some new players for the 2008 season that will help them quite-a-bit. Anyone have any news on this that they would like to share?

I am not getting back into this whole thing again. So, I will say this; it was someone other than the young man's indiscetions. None of the decisions in regards to this whole ordeal were made by this young man. Hopefully everyone can agree that he got an opportunity taken from him for no fault of his own!

He was out with an injury the year before. We had him picked to be in the to 10 as a freshmen but he injured his shoulder half way through the season which ended his freshmen year. He was undefeated his 8th grade year in Ky winning the state at 185, He won an 8th grade national tournament in Winston Salem NC and wrestled for team KY in the National Duals where he lost his ony 2 matches of the year and won 5 or 6 matches and was named to the all tournament team which I believe he is the only middle school wrestler from Ky to earn the all tournament team hounors at the Middle School State Duals. With all of that I would have to say yes, i think he would have had a shot at the finals, not saying that he would have definately made it because we all know there is no definates in wrestling or any sport for that matter. Again this is my opinion and I am not trying to get anyone to agree with me.

If the Watts kid from Mccreary Central puts up some big numbers, which he is capable of doing, he may be in the running. He is a well known name because he is dominate in 3 sports so people tend to look at how he performs. However, the key will be can the coaches find a supporting cast that will allow him to put up the #'s he need against the likes of Bell co., Rockcastle, Knox Central, Madison So. Campbellsville and Leslie Co? In the past the answer would be know and it may be the same in 2008. As said in an earlier post, only time will tell. I know the program in McCreary Co. has been steadily improving and they do have some nice young players moving up!

It is an opinionated point isn't it. You have yours and I have mine but we will never know who is wrght or wrong because the opportunity was taken away from him for someone else's indiscretions.

As long as no football players participated it would be OK. McCreary Co has spring practice but those players who play baseball do not participate in spring practice. They focus on what ever sport they playing "in season" and that is the way it should be.

Yes they do and no I don't know why they moved to JC instead of SC. As it seems that I may in fact be stepping on some higher up toes, this will be my last post on this subject. I have always been known to speak my mind and I have always put the kids best interest first when making decisions that deal with the kids. That is why I get frustrated when kids such as this kid gets the raw end of the deal when he did absolutly nothing wrong. All I can say is I am glad that he will be back in action this summer and we all can watch him play football and wrestle in the 2008-09 season. Buy the way, I think I may be moving to Johnson County by the end of April because of my job so I will get to watch him play a lot!

I heard there was a kid from Paintsville that went to Paintsville HS that moved away then moved back and transfered to JC. The address this player sent into the KHSAA was an out of district address which started the investigation. During the investigation the KHSAA looked into all new transferes and found the the family in question of this thread wasn't living at the address listed on the transfere form (due to flooding) they had moved into another residence within the district. Anyway, this is how I was told the whole thing started but unlike my earlier post I don't know this to be fact it is just what I was told.

I just told you for a FACT that no one at Johnson Central had any influence or anything to do with this family moving there. I am not guessing on this..............I know it for a fact! So, when I say stupidity of adults I am in no way meaning any one involved with J.C. athletic program. All of us in McCreary County would be the first to accuse J.C, their coach and athletic department if they had done something wrong. Everyone wants so bad to find fault in Johnson County and I am telling you that with this young man and his family they did (for a fact) nothing wrong (no violations). So get over it and try to find something else they did wrong.

Yes, the new address is about 3 miles from the school and yes the young man lives at that address with his natural parents along with his 8th grade sister who is also a good athlete. Like I said, this family did nothing wrong, Coach Matney or anyone else from J.C. did not recruit this young man, but this young man got caught up in the stupidity of adults and he has paid a stiff price for that stupidity and as I have said before: any time we let our own agendas hurt the kids we are suppose to be helping it is a tradgedy and a shame.

I don't care what you have heard. I have known this family for many years and I am from McCreary Co and not Johnson Co. I can tell you that this family had been talking about moving to Eastern KY for several years. The decision to move came after their oldest daughter had a baby and the grandparents had some health issues. That is all there is to it and that is not my opinion, that is the facts of the situation everything else is just plain garbage.

The player in question moved to the new school district, asked for and received a waiver from the KHSAA, played in 7 or 8 games and then the family moved because of flooding problems and then some school district made a complaint and during the KHSAA's investigation into that complaint they fond that this kidd lived at a different address than was listed on his transfer form and that is what started this ordeal. As you can see this family followed all the proper protocal but was caught in the middle of unfortunate circumstances to say things nicely. The bottom line is that this kid suffered because adults put their interests first and that is a shame!

Thanks Eaglenation, we will be expecting a battle at your place in 2008. I was at this years game and you all had size and speed and with you only losing 2 players the Raiders will have to bring their A+ game. I hope I can make the trip because it stacks up to be a barn burner! Good luck to Campbellsville up to week#10!

After talking with the coaches and seeing 30+ in the weight-room for the Raiders I can see where they may break 500 for the first time ever this season. They are definately getting stronger which has been a problem spot in the past but know they have sold their team on the importance of hitting the weight-room. One of the coaches said the strength of Rockcastle last year was what convienced the players that they HAD to get stronger if they were going to compete in their district. I can't wait to see what they are doing in spring practice. I would love to here from other Raider fans and from fans of the teams that are on the Raiders schedule.

The move itself was not for athletic purposes. As a parent, if I decide to move I am going to chose a school that offeres everything for my child including the sports they play. Many schools in KY does not have soccer just like many do not have a wrestling team so those things come into play for a parent with athletic kids who are moving. It is actually common sense. Just because this family chose J.C school system because it offered all the sports that their kids were involved in dosen't mean that was the reason they moved(sports didn't even influence the decision to move or not) and to say the decision to move into Eastern KY had anything to do with sports is just plain ignorant! I hope this clarified things for you!

First I would like to say that I love it when it's time for football. As for the Raiders, they need to improve on blocking and tackling. They have some good athletes returning and they should be much improved when it comes to OFF. line play. They have a tough schedule with a very tough district schedule. I think it will be important for them to play well early and get some early wins. I think they are probably 1 more year away from making a very big splash in their district but only time will tell!

I'm not sure but I do know that they are a heck of a lot closer than Belfry and Mccreary Co.

I think I explained it pretty good! As far as the KHSAA, IMO I think they had to cite some kind of violation in order to save face for messing up this young mans football and wrestling season. Again, that is my opinion!

Because the man speaks his mind and people just don't like that. Why do you think people speak their mind on here behind ficticious names? Because they don't want to deal with reprisals!

I'll tell you this, the family moved to JC to be close to the grandparents of this kid because they are elderly and probably don't have many years left and because their oldest child just had a baby and they wanted to watch their gradchild grow up (no one recruited the young man). The first house the moved into (which is the adress givin to the KHSAA) had some flooding problems so the had to move into another place. When the KHSAA investigated some alligation on another issue they found that the addresses didn't match up. That is why they said the young man was eligible to play at the beginning of the season and then later in the year said he was not eligible. That is the backbone of this story. A lagetamite move for personal family reasons and not having anything to do with athletics or recruiting and then having to change houses for valid reasons due to repair needs of the 1st house caused the KHSAA's misconception (oh yea, the 1st house is still not occupied for the same reasons that this family moved out). So, as you can see the KHSAA messed up because of these circustances and instead of saying ooops we are sorry, they slapped a few wrists so they would not have to apolagize. The sad thing is, the kid is the one who got punished for this mistake!

Well, I will agree and disagree with you. I agree that when violations are made the KHSAA should deal with the violators swiftly and harshly. However, when you say that J.C. was obviously wrong then I have to disagree with you. Just because the KHSAA fines you dosen't mean that you did something wrong it just means the KHSAA has the right to have an opinion stating they THINK you did something wrong. I am very very close to this situation and I know for a fact there was no recruiting violation regarding the young man in question. However, some higher-ups do not like Coach Matney so they had to look for some reason to harass the man and they USED a young man to go after the coach. Now, IMO that is a violation of ethics by the KHSAA. As adults we should be here for the kids and never use them as pawns and that is what happened here. The KHSAA messed up and costed this kid several football games and an entire wrestling season where he would have been a state finalist just to go after a coach that they don't care much for. I will say it again, they messed up and that is why the penalty was not so severe and that is why they didn't take the 8 football games the boy played in away from J.C. and why the young man will be eligable this summer and not 8 games into the season which would have happened if there really was a violation (think about it.........you all know i am right.........They messed up). It is a sad day when our kids are done this dirty and all we can think about is ourselves. With that being said, I think coaches,or programs or schools that recruit kids from other schools in any sport should be dealt with harshly. I also want everyone to know that I am not talking about private vs public issues here. I believe that the biggest percentage of private schools(just like public schools) do not go recruit players. I think parents of players seek these schools out because of the TOTAL advantages these schools can give to their children. As a parent myself, I will do everything in my power to give my children the greatest advatage possible, thats just the nature of being a good parent.

I wonder hao #22 got on the ground? Maybe #10 or #32 knocked him down just for the fun of it. All i can say is every fan in every sport always thinks their team got the shaft when they lose and they think everything was called fair when they win. I want everyone to remember this: if a team survives the regular season because of unfair officiating they will probably get a surprised early exit when it comes tournament time. I can't wait to see how this years tournament pans out. Go Raiders..........all the way to Rupp!

I was just using a little sarcasim since jumpermom asked about the McCreary football team. It was like tit-for-tat since everone knows that the Raiders made the playoffs for the first time ever this season but jumpermom stillasked if Mccreary had a football team. No disrespect intended I know Coach Cobb well as I do many of the youth coaches. I also like tyo watch atleast one or two games a year at the Briar patch. Just a little pay back sarcasim!
