Raceland has nine full contact practices, and an inter-squad scrimmage on day ten. There practices are not open and the scrimmage is an event.

Unless they change it up, Russell's spring practice involves coming in before starts around 7am and working out in the gym for a week. That's it.

Pulaski will start as soon as boys & girls bball ends. They will finish spring w/ a Maroon/ White game. The PC faithful are beginning to get excited about the upcoming season.

What is the offical start date for spring football.

It depends when basketball teams finish.

The clock for each school starts on the Monday following your schools final basketball game (boys and girls). From then you have 15 days to hold 10 practices.

Sping football at Raceland has really improved over the years, before coach Maynard arrived the rams would just have 2 weeks of non contact practices, basically covering fundamentals. But now they have 2 weeks of full contact practice and a spring game. I know the players, community, and students really enjoy this, and its always exciting to see some helments clash in the middle of baseball season !!

Spring practice is really all over the place in our state. Some people live and die with it while some schools don't even have it. I think it is Paducah Tilman that has very few kids due to heavy track team participation. There are many others like this.

I know this will be a stupid question, but what effect does spring football practice have on a season that doesn't start for atleast 5 months after spring practice? I personally would not want my baseball players playing in a spring game so they can get thier neck broke before the season starts. It all seems a little anal to me.

Spring football practice is beneficial for many reasons. The coaches get a look at what the team will have without the seniors from the previous year. Spring practice gets a high number of repetitions for freshmen and sophomores.

Spring practice helps to keep everything fresh in the minds of the players, not waiting eight months between the last snap of last season and the beginning of summer practice. Spring practice gives the coaches the opportunity to let players practice hard, and have plenty of time to heal.

Just some of the benefits that I see for spring practice.

I believe the benefits of spring practice are over rated as well.

I'm curious to know how many of the teams that played in the State finals take part in spring football. I know Highlands does, but not sure of the rest.

LexCath does

I agree.

In addition, if you are the type of coach that likes to adjust your offense to the talent that you have, the additional reps gained in Spring are crucial. As a coach you might want to try some things to see what they look like. And the benefit of having Spring ball is that you have the entire summer to analyze what you saw and how the potential new starters performed. If you don't start that process until two a days, you are really behind the power curve come the beginning of the season. Then again if you are the kind of coach that says the early games don't matter, I guess it doesn't matter if you get your fanny waxed in the early season games.:D Me, I want to win them all. But bassmaster is probably right it, is anal. Then again, most really successful people I know are pretty anal.:D And being anal as a football team means you execute your assignments every time.
