Actually by rule you only have to have 8. As long as you have 7 men on the line of scrimmage on "O" you will not get penalized. Just thought I would throw that out there for the laughs!:laugh:

I totally disagree with you. From experience if you have 25 jv players and only some of them get to play during jv games the other kids will quit well before the season is over. We went through years and years of that at MC and those players that quit when they are fresh and soph never play again because of that type of experience. Last year the coaching staff told every player if they didn't miss practice they would get playing time and the result was the loss of one player who decided to do ROTC Ranger Team and he is back playing this year. Guess what? McCreary's numbers are at an all time high and the level of players are all ready allowing MC to play more players on Friday nights. You are right when you said kids like to win but, one thing they like more than winning is to play. MC gauges their JV success at the end of the 3rd quarter and the fourth quarter is reserved for those who hadn't played up to that time. Everyone who practices gets to play, and this has been the #1 young player retention tool we have had to date and it has helped us get new players out as well. Take it back to yourself, would you work your butt off in practice all year and never get in a game and be happy with that situation? I know I wouldn't. JV is very important to the program, you use it to build players for varsity play and I mean every player and still strive for the wins while doing it. When you are playing EVERYONE at the JV level and winning I gaurantee you your varsity program will be ranked near the top year-in and year-out. IMHO!

You are exactly right and I have been trying to get people in Mccreary County to understand that for years. I did the research and schools that are at the top of the educational ladder always have sound, successfull athletic programs. 20 years ago Whitley Co was near the bottom in both education and athletics. Lonnie Anderson took over as superintendent and started pooring money into their athletic programs which generated school and community pride which led to better athetic programs and in return led to higher education numbers. If you think that I am blowing smoke I challenge you to find a school system who has great athletic programs acrossed the board that dosen't have a top notch academic program as well. I can tell you now that you will be hard pressed to find one. Johnson Central is a fine example of academics and athletics going hand in hand! I wish our school system would figure it out!

I have seen both of these teams in action this year and both teams have improved from last year. Clinton can't stop W-burg's "O" so they can score as many as they want. Clinton scored 26 points against MC but I was at the game and know the circumstances of those scores. My prediction is W-burg 52 Clinton Co 8

The ball definately bounces differently on the hardwood. I am a football guy and rarely if ever post on the B-ball forum. So, lets talk pigskin only. As I said in a post just a minute ago, I was not laughing at the prediction of who won or lost but at the low score. If it plays out anything like the first 2 weeks for these teams the score will be much higher! Sorry if I offended you because that was not my intent and I should have explained why I was laughing.

Yes sir, the ball definately dosen't bounce straight on the gridiron. However, dependeing on the strengths and weeknesses of a team you can make an objective and somewhat reliable prediction. Leslie Co has given up 92 points and scored 8 points in their first 2 games. Mccreary has given up 70 points and scored 64 points in their first 2 games. Taking all of that into consideration and if I thought this game might be close I definately wouldn't have the score of this game 16-15, maybe 36-35. Anyway, I wasn't laughing at who was predicted to win just the low score. I predict MC to put up atleast 34 points. I don't know enough about Leslie's "O" to say but they have only scored 8 in 2 games but MC's defense hasn't proven to be very strong so I will say they will score 3 TD's. Final score MC 34 LC 21!

Well Daddy Cat, I wish those young men the very best and will pray for a speedy recovery. I always hate to here of a youngster who has an injury that keeps him from playing sports during their H.S. days. These are the days you can never get back but you like to talk about all of your life. Please send McCreary Co.'s best wishes for speedy recoveries to these young men!

I applaud you slapfest for supporting your program, coaches and most of all the kids. We at McCreary hear the negative all the time but we stand behind the program and everyone who works hard to make it grow into a successfull program. I for one will be pulling hard for you and your Eagles every week this year except one if you know what I mean? I am looking for another exciting match-up between M. Southern and McCreary this year and I am sure with a classy program like the Eagles have the trip will be well worth it. Good luck and we will see you in a couple of weeks!

I for one have many friends in Johnson County and I have a lot of respect for Coach Matney. I think they are a quality football team and I think they could make a lot of noise in the playoffs this year. Good luck to Coach Matney and the Golden Eagles. Yes, but the players on both sides view it as a rivalry. When I said they were afraid the Raiders were growing to a level that would over take them and they didn't want to lose to MC I was talking about the staff members. The community would not view a loss to the Raiders in a positive way and that would have a negative affect on the Jacket coaching staff. Because there is also a little rivalry within the two communities. So, even though I see your point and agree to validity you must know deep inside that my point also has its validity!

Here, here I'll give you that. I just know W-burg is one game that the entire community gets fire up for because it is right next door I suppose. But I do know there is a few players from this county who play over there and several more from W-burg who know Mccreary players and they all (I mean both sides) start talking trash about this game months before the season starts. So, I think the players view the game as somewhat of a rivalry.

Don't forget about Roark. They both had about equal yards against the Jackets. W-burg had a hard time with both of them!

MC went from 6 turnovers in the 1st game to 2 turnovers in the 2nd game so they are getting better. But I do agree that MC has self-imlpded over the last couple of years or they would have had wins over some of these teams that has barely slid by them and I am pretty sure they didn't even send a thank you not.:laugh:

Over the years I have seen McCreary county teams fight tooth and nail right up until the end of the game before the contest was decided. Last Friday night no one on the W-burg side relaxed until MC fumbled in the 4th quarter and W-burg capitalized and took a 2 score lead. Until them everyone new it was anyones game. last year MC scored one more TD than W-burg did but had 6 failed 2 point conversions and only lost by 4, again anyones game. Now W-burg has had some blowouts over MC as well but there has been some very exciting games for the most part. So, hence the "Rivalry". It has nothing to do with wins and losses just the "love/hate" relationships that lead to great battles on the gridiron!

MC scored 28 on W-burg. So you are saying Leslie Co has a better "D" than the Jackets? Just wondering.

I have already stated that W-burgs' line dominated this game and I give credit to Coach Herron for selling his kids on the importance of the weight-room in the off-season. MC's numbers in the weight-room was the best it has ever been but the kids aren't 100% sold on it. As soon as they see it is the single most important thing and MC can get 50+ kids in the weight-room every day during the off-season MC will step it up a notch and play with the big boys. Again good job to the "O" and "D" line for W-burg you guys were the key for the victory Friday night.

I go to some of the JV games. It will probably depend on my daughters B-ball schedule. I know last year MC's Jv team played most everyone very close through 3 quarters (that is how they judge their progress) but lost all of their games. See, the coaching staff promises every kid that comes to practice playing time in a game so at the end of the 3rd quarter everyone who hasn't played up to that point gets in the game. The coaches believe that a kid who sacrafices his time for the program should get rewarded with playing time and I agree Jv is about getting kids ready to play at the varsity level not about winning. With that being said, if you can play everyone and still win that would be the best of both worlds. Also, if a kid gets substantial playing time in the varsity game then they do not play Jv, no matter what grade they are in. MC has 50 plus players and Friday against W-burg they played around 18 kids so they will have a lot of kids to play in the Jv game on Mon.

No, I am not comparing the teams only the scenario's. If MC plays A team such as W-burg and has close game with them wheather they win or lose people shouldn't ask why is a 4A team playing a 1A team. The answer is the same with Sothwestern playing Danville, because the two programs are equally matched and that makes for a great football game. Fans like exciting competitive games. W-burg fans would rather see their team play MC in a competitive game than watch them get blown out by Corbin and I will not respond to any one who says I am wrong about that. I do mean the concept if you don't think you would get blown out that makes you a good fan.

I will help fatbuck out. His question was: " does Leslie get their first win of the season? What does everyone think of this one? Well fatbuck, I think with Leslie being so far down this year that MC will win this game and go to 2-1 on the season. I think MC will be just to much for Leslie this year and I will say the score will be 38-12 in MC's favor!
