Final from Williamsburg. Nice win for the 1A Jackets over the 4A Raiders.

This was a back and forth ball game until a fumble by Mccreary in the fourth quarter and W-burg capitalized on it and took a 2 TD lead and that just seemed to take the wind out of Mccreary's sails. My hats are off to both ball clubs they both seem to be much better teams. Congrats to W-burg they played hard and they played to win. Good luck to both of these teams with the rest of their seasons.

Williamsburg comes out with a nice win, Several Jackets really stepped up tonight. Jake Moses and Ed lawson really pounded the rock for the Jackets, Tyler Rollins was stellar as always, Garret Phillips was outstanding at linebacker, but Thomas Raines and Andrew Root were huge surprises. Root forced the Watts fumble that may have turned the tide. After that fumble it was all Williamsburg, I'll say this the Watts kid for McCreary is one of the finest atheletes I've ever seen in this area. #21 (sorry I don't know the kid's name) was also a load for McCreary. Congrats to the Jackets on a hard fought win!

His name is Zack Roark and him and Watts make a good 1-2 punch and they are both just Jr's. #1 who caught the slant pass for a 92 yard TD is Dustin Goins he is just a Soph. he also had a great game in week one.

I am just beside myself that W-burg wouldn't renew the contract for the next 2 years because this has been an exciting match up over the last 2 years. I would have love to see this game kept being played. I just don't understand it!:confused:

Maybe the Jackets are going to pick up Whitley County or Corbin instead the next two seasons. Both would be huge gates and good contests for a top 10 single A program.

I really wish the Corbin game would work out. That would be a lot of fun. I have heard rumors that Corbin does not want to play this game anymore, and that does not make since to me. I have heard the jackets want to try to increase the difficultyof their schedule, and that is why they are not wanting to play Mcreary anymore.

 

 

As far as the game, the Watts kid is the real deal. I really do not understand some of the things Mcreary has him doing,but he is a very talented young man. Williamsburg is to much on offense for Mcreary, and Mcreary seemed to have trouble moving the ball on the Jackets in a drive. It required big plays to score. I think the Jackets missing two defensive starters in this game really hurt the Jackets.

I would agree with dropping McCreary a few years ago, but haven't they been fairly evenly matched the last couple of years? Wasn't last year a shootout and this year a pull away late? Just wondering. Seems to be a good game right now and everyone seems to enjoy it.

Seems Williamsburg would be a good fit for the Hounds. They could replace LCA or Bethleham with another quality class A opponent, get tested in the passing game, draw a huge crowd and not have to travel far either. I can not see the Corbin fans having a problem with adding the Jackets to the schedule. Somerset is another class A team that the Hounds play each year. I wish they would add Bell back, Whitley, Mboro, Somerset, Wburg, then play their district schedule with a Danville or Boyle County type team in the Pigskin. That would be a quality schedule and even with a couple losses the Hounds would get tested and that would pay off come playoffs. Which should be ultimate goal for any team.

I really don't foresee a Corbin/Williamsburg series again for awhile. Nothing in particular blocking it, just don't see it happening for some reason.

Corbin should add HCHS to their schedule for a couple of seasons. That could be a very entertaining game for the future. I'd also vote for Bell to get back on their schedule. THOSE were some crazy games.

With gas prices the way they are, you have your district games and put Williamsburg, Whitley, Knox, Bell, and Somerset on your schedule and that would be a big fuel savings, plus you would have some great local rivalries and BIG gates.

I agree. Rotate North and South Laurel and perhaps Whitley and Knox, Williamsburg and Somerset. Make Bell a perminant fixture each season. It would increase local interest and really be great financially for all involved. I can not see why these Coaches do not get together and work through some of this. Look at Northern Kentucky and take notes from them. It seems like they have a solid gameplan for their scheduling and their teams are doing well in the post season.

The Jackets missing "D" players, seems like I heard that last year. The Raiders had almost 300 yards of offense in the first half and trailed the Jackets so that ruins the big play theory because obviously they moved the ball without scoring. After saying that, MC had a couple of big plays but that is what happens when you get 3 yards here 8 yards there, then bang you get a 65 or 40 yard score. That is a sign of a good offense. Oh wait, that is exactly how the Jackets did it a couple of times in this game, good job W-burg "O".

 

I was told that W-burg was trying to pick up Allen Central I think............anyway it was a huge step down from MC. I guess we can see who is on the schedule next year and then we can talk about a stronger or weaker schedule.

 

I want to say to the W-burg "O" line, great job you were the key in this game for your team and you should be proud. Gongrats to the Jackets and good luck with the rest of your season.

My opinion is: W-burg is losing most of their stud lineman, QB and receivers and will begin a rebuilding process in 09. MC returns all of their skilled players, including Watts and Roark and lose 3 starting lineman and only 3 starting "D" players. I think the Jackets see the writing on the wall and don't care to play MC in a year that would most likely see them on the other end of things. Again, that is just my opinion and I though MC would win this game so obviously I am wrong sometimes!:sssh:
