It's really kind of funny, some on here have blasted W'burg for playing MC all those years when MC was terrible and after beating MC's two best teams ever (2007-2008) , we are getting slack for moving on...

 

I guess that's the way it goes. I think the biggest problem I have with it is W-burg being such a close game to play and it is a great rivalry game that dates back many years. Good luck to the Jackets!

I seriously doubt that Williamsburg is not scheduling McCreary because they are afraid of them. Even with McCreary's 2 best teams ever the Jackets have defeated them. Also how strong will McCreary be after Watts graduates next season? Most contracts are for 2 years. Looking back the 1A Jackets have defeated the much larger McCreary 8 straight times dating back to 2001--I don't think they fear losing to the Raiders.

 

First off, Watts is not a 1 man team and the Raiders will continue to to improve and get stronger for many years after he is gone. Every program gets a dominant athlete from time to time and thats great but they move on when that athlete is gone and McCreary will do the same. MC has a great youth program and the middle school program has been competing at the same level as everyone else's so MC has many fine young athletes to continue the growth of the program!

 

As for the Jackets fearing the Raiders, well, I was once told by a group of W-burg faithfulls (the group included some W-burg staff members) that the Jackets (when it came to football) would rather get beat 100 points by Corbin than lose by 1 point to McCreary. Taking that statement into consideration I think that W-burg is just chosing not to take a chance on getting beat by next years MC team and that is not the sameting as being scared by no means. I just think they want to say that MC has never beat them. I think in a couple of years when W-burg has re-loaded they will try to put MC back on the schedule but I don't think they will be able to because of their not scheduling now. So, in my opinion this longtime rivalry is over and I want everyone to remember that it was the Jackets doing not MC's

Another question. If McCreary is that much stonger over previous seasons shouldn't they be looking to add some schools closer to their own size. This year's non-district schedule includes 5 1A teams and 3A Leslie. Oneida and Lynn Camp are both very small schools as well. If they're ready to step up in competition why not try to add one or more of the 3 schools in Pulaski County, one of the Laurels or Whitley County? Those schools are all very close and much better competition than Pineville, Oneida, Clinton Co and Harlan?

 

Just because a team is 1 A dosen't make them weak competition. If that was the case why does 4A Boyle Co and 5A Sothwestern play Danvile every year and many times they lose? I also notice that you do not have W-burg listed with those schools. Lynn Camp is a quality team who competes well year in and year out with higher level schools, same for Wayne Co. and Scvott Co is a TN 3A school which is equivillent to a KY 5A school. Plus MC plays in the toughest 4A district in the state. When you are still trying to get to the highest level it would be suicide for your program to schedule 10 games where you have very little chance of winning, that just doesn't make good sense. You try to schedule a game or two where you are favored and a few that could go either way, one that you are not favoerd and then play your district which in MC's siuation would be 4 more that you are not favored in. Your program has to have success or it will not grow. Success = numbers and numbers = growth and growth along with good coaching = greater success. It is true that if you throw in an athlete like Watts it makes it easier to start that process but the process continues once he leaves as long as you keep the equation going!

Were you at the same game. They had two scores in the first half. Once on a 70 yard slant pattern. on the second drive it was a 50 plus yard run by Watts .Any time they had to drive they would self implode, thats why I said they were unable to drive the ball. Williamsburg was missing Cody perkins starting defensive end, and one of their starting linebackers. As far as Allen Central goes I do not know, I know Williamsburg is trying very hard to work out a game with Corbin. I can't even rember the last time Mcreary has beatin the jackets. I would say it has to be less than once every 10 to 15 years. I would say the Jackets need to find a tougher annual game. I have heard Corbin or Oneida.

 

 

I never said they didn't have big plays...........anyway Mc has never beaten W-burg at the Varsity level as far as I know. At half time MC was averaging right at 10tards a touch and W-burg was averaging 4yards so you better be glad that MC imploded or it could have gotten ugly for The Burg. As for W-burg scheduling tougher games.............I already said I was through with that topic until next years schedule comes out!

Surely you aren't comparing Pineville, Williamsburg, Clinton Co, Campbellsville and Harlan to Danville. Scott is not traditionally a very good Tennessee team but while Wayne is not usually a force in 3A they are usually solid. The Cards and Lynn Camp are definately a step up in competition from Pineville or Clinton Co (no offense to those teams but Clinton is just restarting a program and Pineville is in a down cycle). I'll be looking forward to seeing the progress that the Raiders have made in a couple of weeks when they travel to the Briarpatch to take on the Jumpers in a JV game.

We didn't meet up with the Raiders the last couple of years in Middle School ball but our Bucs Youth League team played the McCreary Titans Youth League team back in 2005, I'll be interested to see how they've improved since then. I go to some of the JV games. It will probably depend on my daughters B-ball schedule. I know last year MC's Jv team played most everyone very close through 3 quarters (that is how they judge their progress) but lost all of their games. See, the coaching staff promises every kid that comes to practice playing time in a game so at the end of the 3rd quarter everyone who hasn't played up to that point gets in the game. The coaches believe that a kid who sacrafices his time for the program should get rewarded with playing time and I agree Jv is about getting kids ready to play at the varsity level not about winning. With that being said, if you can play everyone and still win that would be the best of both worlds. Also, if a kid gets substantial playing time in the varsity game then they do not play Jv, no matter what grade they are in. MC has 50 plus players and Friday against W-burg they played around 18 kids so they will have a lot of kids to play in the Jv game on Mon.

I understand the gripe that you get for beating McCreary when they were terrible, but if you really wanted a better schedule and tougher teams and you know that is were McCreary is headed, by your own statements about their two best teams, then why take them off the schedule?

Next year's district, as of now, is Berea, Clinton Co., Campbellsville, Lynn Camp and Williamsburg.

I have already stated that W-burgs' line dominated this game and I give credit to Coach Herron for selling his kids on the importance of the weight-room in the off-season. MC's numbers in the weight-room was the best it has ever been but the kids aren't 100% sold on it. As soon as they see it is the single most important thing and MC can get 50+ kids in the weight-room every day during the off-season MC will step it up a notch and play with the big boys. Again good job to the "O" and "D" line for W-burg you guys were the key for the victory Friday night.

Interesting thread but I wonder if McCreary has never beat Williamsburg then how is this game such a great rivalry.
