Interesting thread but I wonder if McCreary has never beat Williamsburg then how is this game such a great rivalry.

The lion's share of those victories came when we were everyone's whipping boy. The last 15 years have made this series. Not comparable to the MCC/W'burg "rivalry" that you are talking about.

The LC/Williamsburg rivalry is one of the best in the mountains. Ask any of the players or fans now or in the last decade from either school and see what they think of the rivalry, Mr. Fundamental. This series has turned into a war. Not even comparable to what you are saying about the Jackets and Raiders. We win. They win. We both know we have been in a game.

 

C'mon some of you LC/Williamsburg guys, help me out on this one.

 

The one on this thread is not even like the Whitley/LC rivalry. Whitley has the lead big in that series, but LC has won 2 out of the last 3 to turn it back into something. Colonels still like to beat us, we like to beat them. LC and both schools in Williamsburg have victories over each other in their "series rivalries". A rival is a rival. They are the teams that are fun to watch fight it out. They are the schools that just don't like each other going to war for 2 hours on friday nights. They are what make friday nights fun.:thumb:

Now, I can keep on adding definitions but simply put as "Daddy Cat" did: a good rivalry is two team who hate each other just enough to go to war with each other for 2 hours on a Friday night. Over the years I have seen McCreary county teams fight tooth and nail right up until the end of the game before the contest was decided. Last Friday night no one on the W-burg side relaxed until MC fumbled in the 4th quarter and W-burg capitalized and took a 2 score lead. Until them everyone new it was anyones game. last year MC scored one more TD than W-burg did but had 6 failed 2 point conversions and only lost by 4, again anyones game. Now W-burg has had some blowouts over MC as well but there has been some very exciting games for the most part. So, hence the "Rivalry". It has nothing to do with wins and losses just the "love/hate" relationships that lead to great battles on the gridiron!

The W'burg-LC game is a war...I am not sure when it became a rivalry, but this game is what Friday nights are made for...:fight:

The Lynn Camp/Williamsburg games on Friday nights are not so much football games as they are more battles. Last year at Lynn Camp I saw more monster hits on 1 play then I did in other entire games. These boys love to hate each other. Lynn Camp and Williamsburg is a rivalry IMHO, where as the McCreary is just an annual "W" for Williamsburg, although McCreary has made it very interesting the last two years.

That was my point. Williamsburg has owned the series and the Raiders probably see it as more of a "Rivalry Game" than the Jackets. That's probably more the reason for not renewing it than being afraid of losing to the Raiders. The Raider want to get a win, the Jackets expect to win the game.

Yes, but the players on both sides view it as a rivalry. When I said they were afraid the Raiders were growing to a level that would over take them and they didn't want to lose to MC I was talking about the staff members. The community would not view a loss to the Raiders in a positive way and that would have a negative affect on the Jacket coaching staff. Because there is also a little rivalry within the two communities. So, even though I see your point and agree to validity you must know deep inside that my point also has its validity!
