Maybe they won't throw their respective aces, but everything else will be for real and they'll both be gunning hard for wins. And if I had to guess, if it's Ryle's ace's (Hoard) turn to throw that game, he will. I constantly hear people say that teams won't show their ace in a non-district/non-conference game, but I've seen it happen time and time again. I recall a couple years ago Ryle and CCH played in the last game of the season right before district tournament - CCH pitched Isler (ace) and Ryle pitched Etscheid (ace). Sometimes it's actually nice to see how your ace's pitching style matches up against another team's hitters. I've never really bought into the "hide your ace until the right moment" philosophy. Pitchers make adjustments; hitters make adjustments. It's all part of the game.

TOG, do yourself and everyone a favor - take a break from posting for few games, relax with the bride, recharge your batteries . . . . . . and come back in a week your usual self. It's really not a big deal. A couple of people disagreed with you - so what? Let them. Life goes on. You're a baseball guy and a good guy and if doing the stats and posting is important to you and you enjoy it, then do it. There are A LOT of people that enjoy your posts. Maybe a couple that don't. Maybe on occasion, but I have also seen the guy ripped by CCH fans for being too honest and critical of CCH players and their mistakes. Keep something in mind - he's a CCH fan first, foremost, and always - and a lot of his comments will therefore obviously emphasize the positive side of CCH. Not too different than many of us on here that support our respective school. At the end of the day, the guy has made countless favorable comments about a countless number of NKY players through the years. Sometimes you just have to smile about his excessively "pro-CCH" remarks. (All of which would be forgiven, btw, if they were "pro-Ryle" remarks :clap:). Keep on typing, TOG!

First of all, that's just a funny comment right there. Kudos! :lol2: Secondly - and I assure you I have no Beechwood favoritism here - you're just wrong on their velocity. Maybe you did see them on an off-day. But they unquestionably throw in the 80's. Midland has a "pretty good" (as in the best you can buy) radar gun. I'll go with their gun over your assessment six days a week and twice on Sundays.

You are a CCH "homer", no doubt about it, but you're a pretty fair guy and toss around a lot of compliments to a lot of people - both CCH players and their opponents. Keep up the good work. :thumb:

Seed game is next Thursday (April 11) at Ryle.

Key two-out hit by Marshall Rich in first to get Raiders on the board. Two more runs in the second inning, with key hits by Andrew Louden and Max Lonnemann, and that was all the scoring in the game. A bunch of zeroes on the board for the remaining innings on some fine pitching by both teams. I believe Raiders' Smith and Goodridge combined on a 3-hitter.

They've both been timed by Midland in the mid-80's. Do they throw mid-80's consistently? Doubtful. But they've definitely touched mid-80's on the radar gun.

Overstatement. He is a terrific hitter, without question. The "bar none" caveat is just wrong. Ryle's Plvan has two HR's and 4 doubles or so already on the season. He has a huge bat. Is Combs a better power hitter? Maybe. But it's hardly a runaway.

Yes, I do. 7th in a local poll is not a particularly high ranking. I think they are one of the top 2 or 3 teams in the region. But polls mean nothing and time will tell. They get CCH, Conner, and Cooper this weekend in the Knochelman and that should tell us something.

Ryle is going to make a strong run this year. Seemed to have been overlooked in the early polls. This is one very, very deep team with plenty of pitching.

Plvan has started off the season red-hot with the bat through the first six games of the season.

Game played at Ryle tonight. Ryle jumped out to quick 5-0 lead in 1st, Scott came back with 2 runs in 2nd and 3rd. Score stayed 5-4 until Ryle plated 3 runs in 6th. Scott added 2 in the top of the 7th and had tying runner on 1B when game ended on called third strike. Turner (3 INN) started for Ryle and pitched well but had some errors behind him, Mills very solid in relief for 3 INN, and Goodridge closed it out in 7th. Nice hitting night for Puthoff, who goes 3 for 3 for Ryle. Scott played well and looks to have a nice club.

Just to clear a few things up: Ryle hasn't even formed their search committee yet, they have not reviewed any of the applications, and there are no "leading contenders" for the job. All the speculaton in this post is, I assure you, nothing more than guesswork. My source, btw, is as solid as it comes.

It was played, with Ryle winning 4-0. Field was in excellent shape, although infield grass was still soft and balls died very quickly. Overall, field is in nice shape considering the miserable weather to date.

1) I'd like to see NFHS relax the illegal slide rule so that it is legal to slide into the base as long as you can make contact with the bag with either your foot or hand. I know people will say it's a safety issue, but don't think I've ever seen anyone in MLB hurt because of this rule. Plus, a middle infielder can just as easily be hurt by a runner sliding directly into the bag. 2) I've never understand why NFHS makes it a balk if a pitcher in the windup position throws to a base without first disengaging the rubber.

You can add Evan Winchester from Ryle to your list. He plays at Indiana Tech. Cool list, btw!

Also team's leading hitter at .370 with team-leading .553 OBP. Nicely done.

I would also like to point out that the home plate umpire in the Beechwood-Ryle game was horrible. :lol2: (inside joke).

I had a "pretty good" view :sssh: of all the pitchers that threw yesterday. Stringer threw harder than I anticipated and has a nice curveball. Combs was a bit wild, but certainly looks darn good, especially for a freshman. But for my money, the Beechwood kid that most impressed me was a junior named Jason something (odd last name, can't remember it). He was about their 4th or 5th pitcher. Threw very hard, very good control, and an absolutely ridiculous curveball (as in ridiculously good). I thought Ryle's pitchers all did very well. I was impressed with Ethan Brennan. Never saw him throw before and he throws very well. See is throwing quite a bit harder than last year and I think is going to have a great year, as he mixes speeds well. Surprised I did not see as many changeups throughout the day's pitching as I would have expected. Almost as if kids are using their curve as the change of pace pitch.

So you're in pretty much the exact same situation as every other team in the 9th. I know they've used Freedom since at least 2007. Here is a list of the region winners since that time: 2012 - NCC 2011 - NCC 2010 - Beechwood 2009 - Boone County 2008 - NCC 2007 - Ryle Not one of these teams has a turf home field and, at most, played a isolated game or two during the regular season at Freedom's field, so you are/were in the same situation as the other teams. Only Beechwood had a turf football field on which to practice (not sure if NCC gets to practice on Newport's field or not; Ryle's didn't exist in 2007). I will agree the game plays a tiny bit different, but it's the same difference for all teams.

Actually, Cooper is the home team for the district seed game with Ryle and were the ones willing to set up the game at Freedom. Cooper varsity and JV are playing quite a few games at Freedom this year - good for them. Great idea imo - less worry about cancellations due to wet fields and also gives you greater familiarity with Freedom's field for the regionals.

Ryle's infield hasn't even been turned over yet. Lots of grass chunks growing in it. Outfield is so saturated you sink an inch when you walk through it. But the 1-3" of snow we're supposed to get tomorrow should really help things out tremendously. :ohbrother:

I honestly don't know if Forbes will be starting in LF or not. He's certain to be one of the leading candidates to do so. Baumann in CF and Clarkson in RF are locks. And Mason will definitely be on the field somewhere. Pretty certain Coach Roesel considers this one of his deepest teams in several years.
