Whay HS Baseball rule would you like to see either added or go away?

 

MINE......for safety sake, I'd like to see a rule that disallows the "square to bunt, then pull back and hit away." The new bats helped, but drawing the corners in for 5 steps only to swing away puts them back at the same (if not more) of a risk than using the old bats.

The pitcher is in danger on every pitch at about 55 feet away. I just don't think it's worth putting a rule in to protect fielders in this situation.

 

The one rule I hate, and have always hated is the courtesy runner rule. Again, I get it....it speeds the game up. But it probably only saves a couple of minutes at most a game. Maybe my hatred for this rule is a result of me being a former catcher who often didn't get to run the bases because of the rule.

I understand that it's nice to have other players get some playing time etc. but I always thought the 9 you put on the field should be your hitters and if you want to hit for someone then they should be removed from the game.

It is sad the way the hit batsman rule is called. Every umpire calls it differently on what is required for a batter to do, as far a not "intentionally" getting hit.

Agreed..it does allow more participation. I don't so much mind the DH rule anymore...It's been used in MLB for a long time now and doesn't look like it's going anywhere.

If it really was for "speed up" purposes, only do it with 2 outs. If that is the rule and the CR is not ready to sprint to the bag occupied by the C when the 2nd out is made and time is called, they missed their chance and we play on. Wish I had a nickel for all the time that was "saved" bringing in a CR when the Coach first has to be alerted, 2nd has to decide who the CR should be, 3rd that kid needs to find a helmet, 4th that kid needs to find his "sliding gloves," 5th that kid has to stretch and finally jog lazily to the base occupied by the C (who then sits around in the dugout shooting the breeze and doesn't start putting on his equipment until after the inning is over anyway!!!)

So do you dislike the rule too??;-) Get rid of the rule and all these problems go away

I've never seen the CR rule speed up the game.

 

Do away with it. If you're athletic enough to get on base, you're athletic enough to run the bases once you get there.

It's not a matter of being athletic enough. It's my understanding the rule was so that catchers could get back to the dugout to get their gear on so that the game would not be delayed.

 

When CCH won the state championship in 2002 their catcher was Sean Ryan. He batted leadoff. Played running back as well. Very good athlete. Yet they always CRd for him. The CR was not any faster or any more athletic for the most part.

From another thread I'd say quit having a balk be an automatic dead ball. If the result of the pitch is better than the award for the balk let the offense have a choice.

The only problem with that is most of the time it is called so quick the batter doesn't even bother at swinging.
