Peytons` 3.8 is starting at the time the bat contacts the ball until the 1st foot touches 1st base. That is the way I always time players.

Peyton Martin is probably the fastest player in the 16th region. If there is one faster I`d like to know where. Peyton is 3.8 from home to first and runs the 60 in 6.8. This past summer coaches from Xavier, Ohio univ., Ohio State, Tulane, WVU, Univ. of Kentucky and others all took notice and said he definately has D - I speed and possibly enough talent to play at that level as well. Several are going to track him into the summer.

Miss Hodges is a nice player who enjoys the game. It is so obvious when watching her play. Appears to be full of good personality as well

White on white looks good but if you don`t want to replace them every 2 yearsi would suggest someone be in charge of washing them properly.

I thinkthat Ashland A. D. Mark Swift used to coach in Florida. If I`m not mistaken he and the coach were coaching buddies at different schools in the same area.

Just wondering if you are an umpire. Maybe they aren`t having trouble but coaches and fans are yelling "BALK" trying to eventually get a call. In most high school games the two man umpire system is used. If this is the case it is very hard to pick up a balk without guessing. If a player is very close to balking he should be okay. Ina three umpire system the balk will almost always get detected. What region are you from and maybe I can put you in touch with someone that can help.

In the past three years Post 76 has had two players who had the surgery and both came back to pitch well and go on to pitch in college. They also each had the surgery by the same doctor. You may want to get in touch with Coach Lewis and he can put you in touch with these players parents.

Ashland Post 76 and Greenup Co. high school pitcher Tyler Hieneman signed today with Morehead State University. It was Tylers` second visit in a little over a week. Tyler is the fourth early signee for MSU and coach Sorg. Tyler joins former Post 76 players Daniel Pugh (Paintsville) and Casey Branham (Boyd Co.) to bring the total of sixers on the eagles squad to three. It sure would be nice to see Peyton Martin and Josh Wilson join them all the following year.

Peyton is as good a player as there is in the 16th region I would imagine. Most likely the preseason favorite for player of the year in the region. In summer and fall ball he played with Post 76 and even when playing with the older team it was Peyton who all the coaches were enquiring about. Xavier, Wright State, Penn State, Ohio Univ., Ohio State, W.V.U., Univ. of Cincinnati,Marshall, Tulane. There is no doubt he will get plenty of offers from naia and d-2 schools but as someone already said (strike 3 i believe) he has his high school season and the summer yet to make impressions. Oh yea --- just this week he has heard from University of the Cumberlands and Morehead State.

Met Tommy this summer with post 76. He is a fine young man with a bright future ahead of him. Coach Rogers got a winner

I know most of the players on this team and four of the coaches very well. From speaking with several from Boyd, Ashland, Johnson Co. , and a few others as well as a couple of the coaches, I would be willing to absolutely say that firebird was exactly right on the mark. Call it what you want when it comes to the fireworks displayed that day at the park but the problem was there for weeks and actually just came to a head on that day. After that the team vowed that they had a "new attitude" and it sure showed the rest of the summer. True, they are very good kids and one of the coaches said they helped give him alot of good memories but good kids and team concept does not always go hand in hand. Heres hoping they both have very successful college careers and in life period.

I spoke with coach Lewis a little today and he seemed to think that he would start fall baseball the last week of August. They will be making two trips to Columbus, Ohio to play at Clippers Stadium and also will be playing at Georgetown College as well as Pikeville College. He said that this fall season will be used as a tryout for next season. It`s great to hear that the publicity generated from this week is getting him phone calls already about players wanting to tryout for next years squad.

Sixers were fun to be around this season. Not many issues to deal with. Every team has a few and this team was no different. They were dealt with and the team moved on. There were no Ashland guys, no Boyd Co. guys, no Greenup guys , no Johnson Co. guys, etc.......they were just a bunch of guys that loved to play baseball. I heard one coach say that Darby had been on a team of his for nine straight summers. That is amazing. They obviously have a lot of respect for each other and truely love the game to be able to stay on the same team that long. I think they said Rowe had been with them five years. Bias six with one more to go. The sixers lose loads of talent in Darby, Pugh, Blanton, Branham, Rowe, Clark and Fyffe. Next years team should be different in a number of ways. Not as much power--lots more speed---finess pitchers rather than power pitchers. With Logan, Bowling, Murnahan, Bias, Barber and Bentley leading the way other returnees include Barnett, Rigsby, Wright and Dehoff. There will be seven of these players that will come back with a year of college under their belt. That will be a big plus as Darby was the only one on this years squad. Barnett Should lead the pitching staff next summer along with Wright, Bowling, Bias, Wilson, Thompson and Tyler Hieneman so pitching should be just fine. Add to the mix Peyton Martin, Eric Craft a kid from Paintsville (cf) and a couple from the county and with the discipline and speed on that team it could be one of the most exciting teams to watch around here in the past eight years. Isn`t this funny--this season ended last night and here we are already talking about next year. I guess it must be a sickness. Thanks for a fun summer

Tyler Dehoff (Russell) and Austin Wright (Univ. of Rio Grande) combined to shut down Metcalfe Post 65 on five hits over nine innings. Dehoff went the first 4 1/3 and Wright went the final 4 2/3. All of the sixers hits came from four people. The rest need to get their bats going again for Paducah.

Paducah is pitching rich. They boast three d1 pitchers. Always seem to be in the final four and will be hosting this years National Regional. Bowling Green is usually offensive minded. They also seem to be in the final four year in and year out. They put up runs in bunches. Danville has Louisville Slugger All American Rich Witten. He is extremely talented and was an invitee to the U. S. Olympic trials. Ashland seems to be pretty steady defensively. It seems like when the error bug shows up it hits the whole team really hard. Then they get well and are pretty steady for a couple weeks. Pitching has been consistant since early July. With Fyffe , Blanton , Bias and Barnett they feel like they have a chance to win every time out. Wright and Dehoff have been performing well of late and with Branham as the closer and Bowling to relieve or start it seems like there are plenty of arms. Very young though in terms of American Legion Baseball. Fyffe, Blanton and Branham are the only ones who will not be back next summer. Lately the sixers offense has been on fire. If they can keep putting up the numbers they could still be hanging around come Friday afternoon. (FINAL FOUR)

Another doosey in Shelbyville. It was remenissent of an ali - frazier fight. Post 76 came out running and put a 5 spot on the board in the top of the first. Shelbyville came right back in the bottom of the first with 6. It was one big blow aftewr another with these two. Well worth the money to get in. Home runs , doubles off the fence, stolen bases, throwing people out at the plate. You name it we saw it. Even got to listen to several versions of the jeopardy tune being whistled. Post 76 player Cory Clark had 2 home runs one of which went 400 feet or better. Murnahan also hit one out for 76 and Thomas Wilson of post 37 had his 1st of the season. Ashland Post 76 won 15 - 13 and will play Metcalfe post 65 in the stae tournament. Shelbyville post 37 will play Danville post 46. Clarkson had five hits for 37 and Daniel Pugh , Casey Branham, Kory Darby and Justin Blanton each had 3 a piece for 76. Edwards reached safely four times for 37 and Tingle only reached once. This kid can flat out fly.

Post 37 defeated Post 76 last night 8 - 7. Five unearned runs in the first 4 innings and shelbyville had an 8 - 1 lead after 4. Tyler Dehoff came in to pitch and retired 8 of the next 9 and put up zeros the rest of the way. The sixers had the tying run at 3rd and the go ahead winning run at 2nd with 2 out in the bottom of the 9th when Branham sliced a line drive toward left that the third baseman leaped and snagged for the final out. Final game today at 3.
