NLI Early Signing Period

Featured Replies

It's getting closer and are there any HS Baseball players, that will be signing their NLI's (National Letter of Intent), during the early signing period, beginning November 14, 2007.

List their names, high school and college attending....

Cory Farris, Boone Co, will be signing with the University of Kentucky on Friday, Nov. 16.

Matt Nichols, Dixie Heights, will be signing with Morehead State University around that time.

Also, Cody Elliott, Beechwood, will be signing with Ball State University.

What positions do these guys play?

Corey Farris will be playing OF for UK but will also get in some work at the C position.

Matt Nichols is a pitcher and will be a great asset to the Morehead State. If I'm not mistaken, his summer coach Walt Terrel attended Morehead so it seems Matt will be attending his alma mater.

Cody Elliot will be playing the OF for Ball State. The kid has amazing speed. He ran about a 6.6 second 60-yard dash at the end of the summer. The kid has got some power too along with a strong arm. He will make an immediate impact at Ball State and I won't be surprised if he cracks the starting line-up

Elliot will also be pitching in relief.

Nichols will be pitching and playing 3B.

Not at a DI school they won't. Nichols will pitch and Elliot will play the outfield.

Agreed.

Nichols doesn't have the speed to play the corners at a Division college.

Cody, on the other hand, could pitch in relief for Ball State but they will most likely keep him in the outfield to utilize his speed. Cody can throw the ball as he topped out over the summer I belive at 90 or 91. I wouldn't pitch him though anymore than an inning or so if you did...

I am personaly friends with both Cody and Matt, and both of them said they are going to be dual players in College.

Congrats to Matt, but isn't signing a little early, i figured he would wait out and see if he could go bigger than Morehead.

Nothing at all wrong with Morehead State, as I believe Coach Sorg, Parr, Neal and Wheat, are developing the program, plus bringing in very good talent.

I agree with nothing being wrong with Morehead, but i just figured if he could of waited for a bigger school to come calling. There is more to picking a school than just size, and if you get your education paid for that is all that really matters anyway.

Very true and often, many D1 programs already have in place, verbal commitments in the early signing period. Many Seniors want to go ahead and commit, to concentrate on their final HS season.

The opportunity to play and play immediately, is also a factor in college selection for many players.

Matt Nichols has lots of UPSIDE potential. He has size, arm, bat and a good baseball head. He should be very successful playing college baseball.
