  1. Her knee is the same...it wasn't bothering her anymore than normal. She "rolled" her ankle on the other leg in a game Friday. She aggravated it a bit off another player's foot in the 4th last night, but it is OK & not serious. She was in foul trouble last night so sat most of the 3rd & part of the 4th...it seems to take her more to keep warmed up & from becoming a little stiff because of the knee, so she was more uncomfortable in the 4th than she normally is. She played a big role in that 2nd qtr! Williamstown brought a little something new in their defensive effort on her last night & I thought once Grant Co adjusted late in the 1st & into the 2nd, they changed the outcome of the game in the 2nd quarter. It was great to see Grant's bench step up & work hard! Great team effort! There is more work to be done, but last night was a big step in the right direction.
  2. Both teams had foul problems that made the second half interesting as both had starters in foul trouble. Williamstown was up early, but Grant took over the 2nd qtr by holding Williamstown to 2 & held on for the win. Williamstown 13 2 12 18 -45 Grant Co. 6 16 13 18 -53 It was great to see the the fan support at GC in the spirit department! Williamstown experienced a little bit of what other teams always go through with the band & student sections behind the bench when playing at Williamstown. Williamstown was forced to move chairs out on the court to hear at timeouts...how many times have we all had to do that at Williamtown? Williamstown has great fan support & always is a tough place to play...nice to see Grant County step up the effort in that department last night! Keep it up!!!
  3. I agree that frustration is what generally makes a player cross the line & do something "dirty." I do feel however that most coaches would not tolerate that kind of play. Dirty play meaning trying to hurt a player to gain an advantage. I do agree, however, that they are taught, for lack of a better word, "tricks" by coaches. Jersey pulling, etc. I think most of "tricks" go mostly unseen by the fans though, especially down in the trenches at the post.
  4. We have a player playing this season with a knee injury (no ACL) & braced. On 3 occasions this season she has had opposing players do something deliberately to that leg...twice they have actually kicked it out from under her & one game she had players that were guarding her that drove their knees into it...a pushing in kind of motion. I don't think those times are coached, I think sometimes players do things like that from frustration. Opposing teams do try to take advantage of her by driving to one side or forcing her to that side, but that isn't anything that she wouldn't do to someone else. She says that's "just ball." I also think that there is a huge difference between being "physical" & "dirty."
  5. The hinge is not exposed & has a cover, although not padded, it is rubber. The brace is flush to the skin otherwise. If she was to land or dive or hit another player, there would not be any risk to the other player. I asked the question because I have seen these type of braces worn for years, both girls & boys, and never seen a player have to completely cover it before. The officials that required her to do so didn't look at the brace, just told her to cover it.
  6. My daughter has worn a headband her entire career. She has always made sure she wore either solid white or solid blue at the high school level to go with the uniform, no logos. She was, however, informed of the rules requirement by her head coach when she began playing at the high school. I am going to ask another rules question! In regard to a knee brace, in this respect, a custom ACL brace. The brace has no exposed metal of any kind & no sharp corners, all areas are rounded. It is marketed as meeting the national requirements for being "legal" so to speak for competitive sports activity. In our region, the player wears the brace with an undersleeve but no tape or covering over it & has had only 1 ref question her regarding the brace. It was determined it was "OK." However, when playing in another region in the same state, the player was required to "cover" the entire brace. Looked like a tire after that! The only information I could find was on the national association refs site & it only mentioned exposed metal. Any one have what the official position on the ACL braces are or any brace for that matter?
  7. :dancingpa What a great accomplishment!
  8. I agree with your perspective CSF on what you've seen regarding GC. In regards to Gorby, she was not scoring as much at the beginning of the season, but she has started picking up the 10 or so points per game in the last few weeks. It would make sense knowing about the knee. She had to learn what she can & cannot do & figure out footwork. Right knee, she is right handed. She has been dropping the 3 now too. It is interesting to think about...she had to figure out how to make moves or shots. Almost like having a tire or something on your leg while you do it. A spin move, a 3pt shot. Think about lifting off that leg for a layup. She is doing all of that. Very tough gal. Great work ethic. GC folks are very proud of her.
  9. Some would agree...I am thinking her basketball coaches & her Dad are right there with you.
  10. Gorby is back playing. However, she is doing something that can only be considered a testament to her character, strength (both physical & mental) & her work ethic. Candace is playing her final year at Grant County with no ACL. She injured the same knee in an unfortunate incident in soccer in Sept when she planted her foot in a slight hole in the field & her spikes stuck. She has a complete tear of the ACL & had a partial tear in the MCL in the incident. Because she is very strong, did an amazing job of rehab the first time & fitted with a custom brace, her surgeon gave her the go to play her senior year. She will have surgery at the end of the season. Expect to see her playing in the future...:sssh: That being said, Grant is struggling. A bit inexperienced, other than the 2 seniors, undersized & young. Never quite sure what you are going to get on any given night.
  11. Crazy8's, I appreciate this take on it! I agree with your thoughts & enjoy watching players like this. In many cases, these players are the ones that cannot be taken off the court during a game. At the high school level, we don't talk too much about who never comes out of a game. However when they are injured or in foul trouble & pulled out, that is when the true "impact" they make is recognized. They make whoever else happens to be on the court better. They may not be the "stat" maker on a roster, but they bring "it." And as you said, you know "it" when you see it.
  12. Great win tonight for Highlands! My understanding is that all players for both teams were playing tonight, including Jackson for Notre Dame. Glad to hear she is back on the court.
  13. Final from KHSAA Scoreboard. Let's hear some details from the game! The NCC fans can tell some of us a big "I told you so" on this one!
  14. Should be a great game tonight! Where is this being played?
  15. I just heard they are a little battle worn from the Christmas tourneys is all.
  16. I meant IF Jackson is back! Any word on her return yet?
  17. Jackson back in the lineup for Notre Dame. Highlands is a little beat up...I think Notre Dame will win this one!
  18. Yes. She suffered this injury in soccer. The injury itself was unrelated to the first, it would have happened whether she had the first one or not. She planted her foot in a slight hole on the field & suffered a complete tear of the ACL, partial MCL-which is now healed. She is very, very strong & her knee is stable. It is much more a mental challenge than physical.
  19. Nice to see Tori playing so well coming back off her ankle injury! She plays hard & knows how to position herself on the floor to pull down those rebounds in spite of being outsized in a lot of games. Positioning is everything & she's got it!
  20. Grant did play well! Shot opportunities were there all night, but just couldn't get them to fall. It will be interesting next time around. Gorby, PG for Grant, played extremely well last night & is getting back to form & more confident every game after suffering an ACL injury in soccer this past September (she is playing with no ACL-surgery will be done after the season). She made great decisions running the floor for Grant. Gorby found Lockard over & over in the paint & made some amazing passes in the game last night. She as well as the rest of the team just couldn't get 'em to stay in the bucket. Grant's shot percentage had to be pretty bad. Williamstown is a tough place to play...the atmosphere is rowdy & it is lots of fun. That was a great game last night. Great job by both teams! Williamstown made the big baskets in the fourth to put it away!
  21. Have to agree with TMC Gunner...Simon Kenton is clearly the team to beat in the 8th.
