Grant County 53 Williamstown 45

Recommended Posts

Final. Very physical game with quite a few players fouling out from both sides. Workman and Plunkett led GC in scoring with 15 and 14 respectfully. Wilhoit led Williamstown with 23 pts. and pulled down 17 rebounds.

Both teams had foul problems that made the second half interesting as both had starters in foul trouble. Williamstown was up early, but Grant took over the 2nd qtr by holding Williamstown to 2 & held on for the win.

Williamstown 13 2 12 18 -45

Grant Co. 6 16 13 18 -53

It was great to see the the fan support at GC in the spirit department! Williamstown experienced a little bit of what other teams always go through with the band & student sections behind the bench when playing at Williamstown. Williamstown was forced to move chairs out on the court to hear at timeouts...how many times have we all had to do that at Williamtown? Williamstown has great fan support & always is a tough place to play...nice to see Grant County step up the effort in that department last night! Keep it up!!!

So even though there a few games left in the district, GC still ends up the 4 seed and draws the 1 seed SK and WV and Williamstown will play each other in the 2/3 seed game.

Game definitely meant more to Grant than it did Williamstown. Yes, it did nothing to affect the seeding...but they knew that going in. But, to get the #4 seed AND lose to Williamstown TWICE?!?!?! That would have put a gray cloud over the program for the last month (and heading into next season?). Nice to see the girls respond.

Wouldn't have been a bit surprised if the game DID affect the seeding, and Williamstown faced the possibility of going down to the #4...that this game wouldn't have been played (with both schools out Monday due to the snow). May have given Stith time to recover?!?!? :sssh:

24smom - How's Candace's knee? Saw her limping and in obvious pain. Know the situation, but it looked like she was struggling with a serious pain issue moreso than normal.

Tori singlehandedly kept Lady Demons in the ball game. Could have been much worse if she didn't take over the way she did. Did not see the same "team effort" by the rest of the squad the way I did when they played Henry last week. When they don't play like that and get contributions from everyone...it's really obvious that they miss Stith.

Stith is not back yet. May not be back for a few games. Hopefully some others kids can step up and contribute. Nice game Tori Wilhoit.

That is why Grant County won. Without Stith they are a completely different team.

Her knee is the same...it wasn't bothering her anymore than normal. She "rolled" her ankle on the other leg in a game Friday. She aggravated it a bit off another player's foot in the 4th last night, but it is OK & not serious. She was in foul trouble last night so sat most of the 3rd & part of the 4th...it seems to take her more to keep warmed up & from becoming a little stiff because of the knee, so she was more uncomfortable in the 4th than she normally is. She played a big role in that 2nd qtr! Williamstown brought a little something new in their defensive effort on her last night & I thought once Grant Co adjusted late in the 1st & into the 2nd, they changed the outcome of the game in the 2nd quarter.

It was great to see Grant's bench step up & work hard! Great team effort! There is more work to be done, but last night was a big step in the right direction.

So Grant gave W-town a little of their own medicine by putting the band behind the visitor's bench. Is this something they will do just for this game or will it continue?

Are the Grant Co fans sitting behind the benches or are they on the other side? I know at W-town the band is sitting on the home side at least.

Home side also behind the benches. Student section beside the band, behind the visitor bench. I think it will continue. Williamstown boys up next! The team, fans, parents & students, including the Grant Co. boys team had a lot of fun. School spirit was definitely up!

Sounds like a great atmosphere, the way every game should be.

Does your band show up for every game or just a few select games? For some reason, I thought the Grant Co. fans sat on the side opposite the benches.

By the way, Candace is a great competitor and I appreciate the fact that she gives her all for her team.
