I agree:thumb: Not saying this will happen, but if this situation actually does occur (however unlikely), there will be some behind the scenes dealing making. I don’t think Fraley would take a pay cut to be an assistant for the boys AND give up an opportunity to coach his daughter, unless his final goal is to take over the boys head coaching job one day. This, however, is contrary to all I have heard about Fraley’s future plans.

Just to clarify-I meant that I also heard that Fraley wanted to coach his daughter in high school basketball, NOT that this "Euton to Boyd' scenario would actually happen. I personally think the chances of this happening are slim to none. But if it did happen, Fraley could coach boys for a few years and then still have time to coach his daughter in high school.

I have heard the same thing-but my point is that his daughter will not be playing high school ball for a number of years. Fraley could coach boys for several years and then switch back to girls basketball to coach his daughter at the high school level.

Could be that Fraley will coach boys until his daughter gets to the high school ranks and then switch back to being girls head coach again. This could be part of the "deal". I personally don't think that this is going to happen. To many tumblers would have to click perfectly in place for this to become a reality, but stranger things have happened. At this point its all just speculation. If it does happen, the bad-blood that some RH-Ashalnd fans hold for each other will be replaced with a Boyd - RH feud.

IMO I think that Pete Fraley leaving the girls team would hurt Boyd's girls program more than Euton's coming to Boyd would help it. I'll be the first to congratulate RH in their success the last few seasons, but lets face it, having all-state caliber players on a team can make a coach look awfully good. Regarding the boys situation, this would definitely place Boyd's boys team head and shoulder above the rest of the region. But just think of the contoversy - My mouth is already starting to water thinking about all the juicy BGPs posts if this rumor becomes a reality. Can any RH posters lend any credence to this rumor?

Some may not like Zornes personally or professionally, but no one can dispute that he gets results. Personally I welcome him back to the 16th.

Coach Pratt has been a fixture at Boyd as a player and coach for a long time. Its going to be difficult to fill his shoes. truly a class act.

Good post Go radio. I have listened to many of your radio broadcasts over the last few years and I have always respected your professionalism and impartiality. Your enjoyment of high school basketball and your desire to support all area players is definitely apparent. I also agree with your take on some of the RH posters. Although I have not been a poster on BGP for very long, some may have the impression that I am a "RH basher". Actually nothing could be farther from the truth. Not being originally from this area, I support all 16th region basketball (boys and girls). I attended several RH girls and boys games last season and I even rooted for them on more than one occasion. I am just a fan of good basketball...period. During my time on BGPs I have also respected many of the posts from RH fans such as LRCW and Himmelfarb. Their comments are usually informative and accurate. They give their opinion, not to antagonize, but to prompt good debate. However, I do feel that a goodly number of RH posters continually criticize other 16th region teams and then claim that the region is against them when they receive negative responses. Even worse, these posters then claim innocence when questioned about their motives. Bottom line, constantly criticizing your “good neighbors” and then denying it is going to prompt some negativity toward your program. In essence you are cultivating the very thing that you claim you want to end.

Old Veteran, I agree that Troy Lee Thomas is the best defensive coach in the region. If he doesn't return, how far do you have Rowan falling in the pecking order (if at all)? Also how do you see the other teams faring in the 16th? Any darkhorses that could make a run for the regional title?

Here are my picks in rank order (for what its worth): 1) East Carter- good inside game, talented youth, good system 2) Rowan Co.- great pressure defense, 4 returning starters, Thomas returns? 3) Ashland- return 4 starters, good shooters, more inside presence in 2008 4) Morgan Co.- Eagle, team oriented, hungry, inside game is suspect 5) Russell- good tradition, can it continue without Okoro and Fortman? 6) Fleming Co.- very aggressive, will miss Keeley, getting adjusted to 16th region 7) Raceland- depends on Vanderhoof’s recovery 8) West Carter- mass senior exodus, Stevens and Cox must carry load 9) Lewis Co.- nucleus of team returns, very good guards, good home-court advantage. 10) Elliot Co.- must continue improving, majority of scoring returns 11) Boyd Co.- lose 4 seniors from sub .500 team. 12) Menifee Co.- Williams returns and must carry offense 13) Greenup Co.- Keeton faces uphill battle with Sexton and Gibson gone. 14) Fairview- showed improvement at the end of season but has long way to go. 15) Bath Co.- could be in for another rough season. 16) Rose Hill - how will Euton adjust to losing the big 3?

A good coach knows how to balance the negative criticism with the positive praise. I've always believed that the worst thing to happen to a player is when his/her coach stops correcting him/her. It is then that the player may realize that the coach has lost all hope in him/her.

Sad but true....

And thus the problem...without any definite guidelines there will always be controversy. But if everyone agreed there would be no reason to have BGP - and what would be the fun of that?

Thanks for the explanation. I actually feel that you have some valid points for your position-although I don't entirely share your viewpoint. Only why did you bother posing the "puzzle" to begin with? By posting this explanation first you would have saved us a lot of time and effort:lol:

Scooter, the underlying theme of your posts have been that Euton was treated unfairly by the male voting coaches of this region. You have stated several times in many threads that you feel that 1) Euton was not chosen solely because she has been discriminated against by male coaches and 2) RH does not win year end awards because the region voters conspire against RH. I don't care so much whether Kidwell wins the award than why you feel Euton has been so conspired against by area coaches. My responses have been to show that Euton has not been unfairly treated, but that other coaches may have some claim to the COY award. As I have stated NUMEROUS times I did not say Kidwell was the best choice for the award, all I said was that he should be considered. I DID say however, that I agreed with LRCW and his facts of a 27-6 record, 6-1 district record, and winning the EKC should put him in the running (just like Euton's record should put her in the running , but not guarantee her the award). I have also seen Kidwell coach on many occassions and I do know that he is a good X's and O's coach. Kidwell also is a good disciplinarian, but from talking to several of his players personally that he is still well liked and respected by the players. Now answer my questions - Give me reasons why Euton should be a lock for this award. AND do you believe any area coaches besides Euton qualify for this award?

Scooter, you have supplied one fact as to why Coach Euton should win COY - That her team won the region. I have supplied you with many reasons (facts if you will) as to why Euton, while a good coach, is not a lock for the COY. More specifically: 1) RH was given a preseason #3 STATE ranking at the beginning of the season by a well respected newspaper. Thus RH’s defeat in the opening round of state may actually be seen as a disappointment by some (although I am not one of them - I congratulate RH for their postseason success.) 2) RH returned 2 Miss Basketball candidates and a player many feel was all-area caliber. In other words, IMO this team should win with even an adequate coach at the helm. 3) RH has an excellent Xs and Os assistant coach in Mark Watkins. I know this for a fact because I have played ball with him, talked to him about coaching strategy, and seen him coach form the bench. 4) And while this is not a fact, just my opinion, I explained that a good record, though important, does not always determine a great coaching job. Some of the best coached teams end up around .500 due to inferior talent. As previously stated, I am not saying that Kidwell should win the award, so I will not supply facts to support his winning of COY (even though LRCW's post does an excellent job of doing this). My position is that Euton does not automatically win the COY solely because her team went to state. Other area coaches also have positive qualifications that put them in the running. Now that I have stated my position (without getting into reasons why Euton my not be the best choice-something I refuse to do on this forum), Tell me Scooter, what facts besides going to state guarantees that Euton wins the award? In regard to your Rupp comment, I agree that winning is important at the high school level, however if that is all our children learn then high school sports is in a sorry state. Coaches teaching players things such as team loyalty, manners, respect for coaches players and refs, good sportmanship, mental toughness, and I could go on...should be even more important. Remember we are talking about high school kids here, not adults.

And therein lies the problem. Scooter looks at posts as person attacks toward him, where there are only winners and losers. I, however, like to take a more mature approach and look at posts as debates where open minded individuals can learn something from each other. A situation where everyone wins.
