  1. Good explanation. I hope you're right. It just happened so often I didn't know what to think. I agree that I don't want the refs taking over the game by making this call, but on the other hand, if not called early in the season this could really affect the coaching strategies of some teams. If early lane entry is not enforced, it could be a huge advantage (or disadvantage) for some teams.
  2. Spent some time this last weekend at the scrimmages at East Carter. I know that in any given year the refs must be aware of rule changes and areas of emphasis for the upcoming season. Coaches also need to be aware of what the rules are (obviously) as well as what the refs are looking to call. That being said, I saw about 8 situations where East Carter players moved into the foul lane way before the ball had hit the rim off a free throw attempt. The refs only called one of these as a violation. Is this not something being enforced in the 16th region this year? Just curious......
  3. With the shake-up at Rowan County, I might have to put Ashland as number 2 in the 16th. Rowan was my preseason #2 before High resigned. I agree with East as #1.
  4. The one thing I like about BGP is that, while members do rib each other from time to time, the real fans usually give credit where credit is due. Classy move on the Ohio State fans to give Carr some props for the job he has done at Michigan.:thumb:
  5. With the exception of KY being ranked in the top ten (and at the time even that could be justified) KY has earned every ranking it has gotten. It has beaten 2 top ten teams, played Florida tough, beat Arkansas on the road (which is a good victory with Jones and McFadden even if they aren't ranked), and beat everyone besides Miss St. who they were picked to beat. And regarding Miss St. I think most people see them as a legitimate threat and not the walkover people thought at the beginning of the season. Bottom line - KY is worn down. Not an excuse for losing - just a fact. At this time in the progression of the KY program, KY still will find it difficult to finish strong in the SEC due to lack of depth. Also, teams are figuring out how to play the CATS (especially after watching the South Carolina game) IMO Kentucky has had a great season. There has not been one game this season where Kentucky has not been considered a threat to win. How many KY football seasons can you say that about? The comment where you downplay the LSU victory is laughable. LSU wasn't just an early #1 that faded. They are right back at #1 and probably favorites (at this point) to win the national championship. A Ky win against them (and an overtime win at that) is still VERY impressive! If KY plays in any other conference in the nation, they would not be #5 in their division
  6. Tebow the frontrunner but McFadden will continue to make some noise.
  7. So when does Louisville become bowl elligible?
  8. OK, I vented my anger and now its time to support UK 100%. Just because Woodson is not one of the top 5 players in the nation doesn't mean he can't lead UK to 2 more victories. Tennessee at home is a game UK can and will win. Don't jump off the bandwagon just yet!!!!! If you abandon the UK TEAM now, IMO you were never a real fan!!!!!
  9. I also agree!!! But IMO 2 plays beat KY today - The blocked punt and the Woodson sack. Don't get me wrong, I really like Woodson, but when he alluded the first tackle and got out of the pocket he MUST throw it away. His sack took us out of field goal range and the game. I really hoped Woodson would play great against GA and TN so he would get an invite to NY. But after this key mistake (and of course the loss), he isn't heisman material. I love the guy, but you gotta get the job done!!!!!
  10. Any mention on who his replacement will be? I feel sorry for the girls who have lost 2 coaches since the end of last season. I considered Rowan to be a top 3 team in the region, but I may need to reevaluate my rankings if High has indeed left the program.
  11. Heard that High's coaching stint at Rowan may already be over. Can anyone verify or disclaim this?
  12. Here we go....... My prediction is that this thread is done by the end of today:argue:
  13. I agree that this is probably a little high for Miss State, but they do have the possibility of having a 8-4 regular season. Remaining games are Arkansas (at Ark so will be a tough one) and at Ol' Miss. Miss State definitely is a better team than the team that lost to LSU 45-0 at the beginning of the season. Croom has them peaking at the right time. IMO, no upper echelon team would want to play them right now. IMO, this team will be going bowling
  14. I agree that pushing a player back 3 or 4 feet on a blockout is a pretty obvious foul, but there is also a fine line between fouling and aggressive basketball. If an defensive player if playing behind an offensive post (and thus automatically in position for a rebound), I want my offensive player to push the defensive player under the board (within reason of course). Also, as a player, if I can't block out the opposition by pushing them out a few feet, then the refs better be calling the over-the-backs as much as they are calling block-out fouls. My opinion my be in the minority and maybe I'm just too old-school, but I want the refs to let the players play (within reason). Of course JMO.....
  15. Sounds like the same kind of comments that were being made after the Cats lost to USC and BEFORE they beat the #1 team in the nation. I admit that it will be a tough game, but isn't every game in the SEC! I say KEEP THE FAITH and GO CATS!!!!!!
  16. Are you talking about a real team or is this just a hypothetical question?
  17. Croom doing a great job at State. Things look good for their future. IMO, UK with 7 wins gets a pretty good bowl game, one more win and its a really good bowl game. UK fans travel well and the bowl organizers will take this into consideration.
  18. Just curious, but what does distinguish a "great" coach from just a "decent" coach? Should it be measured by only tangible achievements or are there also many subjective aspects that factor into the decision?
  19. Truer words have never been spoken (regarding either UK basketball or football) :thumb:
  20. We're definitely in agreement on this:thumb:
  21. I disagree. A loss at Vandy would be heartbreaking for sure, but IF they lose at Vandy and beat GA and TN then it would be a very good season IMO. I definitely want to see KY end the season strong, but even if KY falters, there have been some great aspects of this season (Beating LSU, Beating Louisville, Game Day at UK, ranked 8th in nation, etc...) I'm proud of this team even if they struggle at the end.
