  1. McFarland drew the defense, and Earls was standing on the opposite block, and the pass got through.
  2. JV score was Boone 47 Highlands 39 Varsity was Boone 56 Highlands 54
  3. Bray, Earls (freshman center), and McFarland led Boone in scoring with 14, 13, and 12, respectively. Earls made an uncontested layup at the buzzer after a pass by McFarland. Simmons led Highlands with 14. He injured his ankle in the end of the third-quarter. Close game throughout.
  4. I think Boone will give them a decent game. Even though Popp is still out and Earls is playing strictly varsity, Gabbard and Flannery should play. I would have liked to see Boone and Highland's full freshmen arsenals play each other this year.
  5. It may also be thought of as an exception that is often exploited for the wrong reasons by many. I don't believe the intention of the holdback rule was to allow for a redshirt freshman in high school sports. It was put into place for academic and social adjustment reasons.
  6. Popp and Gabbard from Boone are also two of the best true freshmen point guards in the state. I've seen them play against Cox and Noble multiple times over the last year in middle school and AAU ball and in AAU camps, and there was very little separating them talent wise. Aren't Ritchie and Noble also holdbacks? All of these are very good players. I think it is an exaggeration to say one PG is that much better than the other between Cox, Popp, Gabbard, and Noble. Of course, Chad Jackson from Rose Hill is also one of the top true freshman PGs in the state, as is Elisha Justice.
  7. High scorer for Boone was #31 (Flannery) with 16 points, 13 of them in the final quarter. Boone was at the line with a chance to win it in regulation, but it didn't fall. One of Boone's starting guards (both are freshman) is out at least until early to mid-February with an injury. They were 4-0 before his injury and are 2-2 since then.
  8. Boone can be good at times. They are young and, therefore, inconsistent. They will get better with more experience and as their injured PG continues to recover from his knee injury. Also, the coach will need to find the right style to play them.
  9. I think both, plus Boone is young, which can lead to inconsistency.
  10. I've said from the beginning that Boone would be a contender and surprise some people. They are young. 1 freshman started, and another saw significant minutes. I don't think they are a 6 to 10 ranked team in NKY like everyone had been saying at the start of the season. They are top 5. Nobody can say Boone hasn't played anybody now. Boone is for real. The JV game was also good and pitted 2 undefeated JV teams. I believe SK JV was something like 9-0 going into the game, and Boone was 5-0. I believe SK JV is very junior/sophomore dominated. Boone JV has freshmen that play a lot. Final score was 54-53. Like their varsity, Boone JV is also missing a starting guard (Popp, out with a knee fracture) who makes them even better. The future looks bright for Boone.
  11. I believe he has posted at least a few double doubles already this year and is averaging double figures.
  12. How does Hurd match up with Kiernan of NewCath? Kiernan got 24 points on Boone, but that wasn't enough. Boone has a good 6'6" freshman and a 6'7" senior who can try to help check Hurd.
  13. Boone is also missing their starting point guard and a couple of the J.V./varsity underclassmen point guards who could help back him up. Should be a good game.
  14. Yes. There are plenty of other good players who go unnoticed/unmentioned in these types of rankings. Teams and players from certain regions get more hype and visibility on these message boards because there are more parents from those regions regularly participating on the boards. For example, Rose Hill and June Buchanon supporters have many, many more posts than other schools. The players that have been listed are good, and there are also many more who haven't been mentioned and fly under the radar for various reasons, such as a lack of exposure, playing on a weak team or a strong team, being an unselfish player who doesn't shoot a lot, etc. To rank certain ones over others is awfully difficult unless you've seen ALL of them play and against each other. No doubt Euton and Jackson and Cox are among the top players. I see Euton and Jackson as a legitmate top 5, based on watching them in school and AAU ball over the years. There are several others I've seen in school ball and in the AAU circuit who are very good too and could challenge for the other 3 spots. I still think it is hard to narrow it down to a top 5 at this point. What do you base such rankings on? Statistics? Hype? Publicity? Team record? Past Success?
  15. He's playing for Boone frosh and J.V. and sees some varsity minutes. Also last week: Boone over Scott
  16. Boone lost to NewCath in HC tourney. Boone freshman team is missing 3 of its best freshman (2 of these had been starting for the freshman and J.V teams and playing some varsity). Earls and Gabbard are playing varsity. Earls has been playing varsity all season. Popp is out until approximately Feb. 6 with a broken patella sustained during a rebound in a varsity game last week.
  17. Boone lost by five to the undefeated top team in the 16th region, without Boone's starting point guard and with McFarland on the bench with foul trouble for a good part of the game. I'm sure Boone could have played better, but give Russell credit. Boone is young but could surprise if they get hot at the right time and get/stay healthy.
