  1. I wouldn't say a need as much as the fact that they are one of the more talented classes to come through Boone in awhile, and why not start developing them young? They will be a big part of Boone's best shot at a regional title in quite some time. They have also been among the more talented in their class in NKY the last several years. Highlands has some nice sophs as well.
  2. 2 in the last 2 to complement one of the better teams GC has had in awhile...
  3. IMO, the top four teams I saw there were Scott Co., June Buchanon, Fern Creek, and Boone. June knocked Fern Creek out (by about 8-11), and Scott Co. knocked June Buchanon out (by 3) and Boone out (by 16) with Mackey. They were all 4 in the same side of the bracket. Except for a bad second quarter, Boone outscored Scott Co. the rest of the game.
  4. THey will need to replace Crews' with a capable PG, which is where I think they may be lacking the most.
  5. I think any of the top 4 have a legitimate chance.
  6. Agree that it should be interesting/fun to watch. I think they have an outside chance at the ninth region title this year but a great chance next year, and a pretty good one the year after that too.
  7. With the talent coming up, they should be improved no matter what. They lost 7 seniors but have 4 very talented sophomores who will see lots of playing time and junior Stephen McFarland coming back. These kids have played against the top AAU teams in the nation over the last few years, and 2 of the sophs saw significant varsity action as freshman. IMO, Boone needs to push the ball up the floor and get lots of transition baskets.
  8. Which KY teams are in the Main Event, and which ones are in the Adidas tourney in Vegas this week? OBC 15U Patriots are in the Adidas tourney. I saw about 96 teams listed in the 15U division of Main Event and about 24 in the same age group of the Adidas tourney. College coach turnout the same at both?
  9. I was told it was against the Michigan Mustangs.
  10. Switched to the Shining Stars along with Earls.
  11. Also just a matter of lower population here than in Lexington/Louisville.
  12. Lack of size often seems to a common theme among Northern Kentucky teams.
  13. Simon Kenton has Lane back and a strong JV class coming up that was junior-laden last year. I look for Simon Kenton and Gallatin to both have good teams again.
  14. To me, it seems like another case of transferring for athletic advantage. He obviously is saying the right things about wanting to keep a 3.0. Why couldn't he do that at Henry Clay? Isn't Georgetown only 15 minutes from Lexington? This would be a relatively easy move for a family and still be able to keep the same jobs. This would make Scott County's 2010 class much stronger than they otherwise would have been, so I'm sure they would welcome the transfer, whether or not it was solicited.
  15. Agreed :thumb: The 2009 class has a few good ones as well. McFarland is also very good and provides some additional needed heighth for Boone. Brown is a strong inside player who plays hard, and Spaulding is another athletic 2 guard who plays hard and whose shot is improving. Brown's older brother, who is a senior this year, also plays hard inside. Krohman, another senior, is another good 3 point shooter. With one more backup big man, Boone could have the complete package. I think they will be able to play 8 to 10 in a lot of games this year without losing much in the lineup at any time, and this will help wear opponents down. I believe a strong team needs a strong starting 5 and 2 or 3 good bench players. It will also be up to the coaches to utilize this talent the right way. I believe Boone could be better this year than last year's 18-12 record, and even better the following two years. Next year could be their biggest year. If another decent big man comes in, the sky's the limit.
  16. Boone's Schultz, Thamann, and Rigsby are also good from the 2010 class.
  17. Boone is deep at that position, arguably having the 2 best point guards in N KY in the 2010 class (Gabbard and Popp). There's very little difference between them skillwise and statistically, and they should both get lots of playing time at the varsity level this year as they did this summer. Both also currently start together on the same AAU team and have played together in the past. Both handle the ball well, with Gabbard having perhaps a slightly better handle. Both have very good court vision, and both can score, with Popp having perhaps a slightly better shot. When in the game at the same time, they are hard to guard and press and can break down the defense even better to get open shots for teammates when playing together. These two boys seem to get along well, and it will ensure that Boone will always have at least one adept PG on the floor at all times. I think that Boone will often be able to play a multiple guard offense, however, and push tempo and get lots of open shots because of this. IMHO, It would be a waste of talent not to. With these guards and good shooters/scorers, such as Flannery, Boone should be good.
  18. Aren't many graduating IN seniors also older than KY seniors due to different age/eligibility cutoff? That has to have some effect. Could be like college freshman playing against high schoolers.
  19. Clay Coleman (Ryle sophomore) could be an impact player at the varsity level. Brewer (Newport sophomore) played some varsity last season. McDaniels (Newport sophomore) could be an impact player for them this year too. Avery (Conner sophomore) will be. Earls, Flannery, Popp, and Gabbard (Boone sophomores) will play all varsity this season and will all be impact players.
