  1. If Holy Cross wants to win this one they're going to need to cut down on Penalties. How many penalties did they have against Dayton? They had at least 10 and the majority of them were 10 yards or more. I thought HC's QB did a nice job "dinking and dunking" and his WR's did a better job making plays in the open field.
  2. My Bellevue Tigers will bounce back next week. Someone has to lose. Walton-Verona is on the rise.
  3. I have heard through the NKY grapevine that Highlands has installed a 2 platoon system for the D-Line alone. That was what wore down Boyle Co. supposedly.
  4. No dog in this one, but I say HC rolls. Schools like Dayton and Ludlow who have very few kids who come out for football will struggle to be competitive against a school that's only slightly bigger.
  5. We all know this was a scrimmage right? How do we know Cooper will be this good? How do we know NewCath won't be horrible this year?
  6. Do you have an agenda? Seems like you are offering nothing but excuses, rather than admit that your team lost a scrimmage game to a class 5A team? How many guys play both ways at how many schools across the country? Is that why Beechwood lost to Mayfield three years in a row, because they play both ways? Get real.
  7. Beechwood may have looked like the better team, but obviously they were not since they lost. I don't know what was going on with Beechwood tonight but they had a ton of penalties in the first half. They had a few personal fouls, a horse collar and a block in the back. Given it was a scrimmage, they can't expect to win big games if they have that many big penalties.
  8. Highlands facilities are worse than some grade schools, they do it through the players buying in to the tradition. They want to say they won state like their peers before. Beechwood used to be able to play the poor facilities card, but not anymore. They have a awesome field and a new fieldhouse/weightroom that rivals some colleges. Everyone brings up NewCath and Holy Cross like they have dominated forever. NewCath has 4 state titles and Holy Cross one. As for most influential changes since 2002 I would have to go with field turf. No more rainouts. The most negative change by far has to be the addition of 2 classes. They should of consalodated to 3 classes.
  9. I agree 100%. The Post outclassed the Enquirer in all Prep sports coverage, not just football. Even today with only one local paper the Enquirer seems to half a$$ it. I loved coming home from football practice and reading the previews during the summer double sessions, and also the Thursday previews of friday nights games. They always had a big write up of a team or individual on fridays, and their Saturday recaps were tremendous. I always have and always will believe the Post was a better paper.
  10. To say it the reason not to start football is b/c it would hurt soccer and cross country is dumb. It may pull kids away from soccer, but who can honestly say they know someone who would've played football if there was a team but since there wasn't they settled for cross country? What about schools that added soccer well after the football program was started? Brossart seems to be staying strong in non-football boys sports. Yes I know they are quite bad in football. Why is it fair for prospective football players to just be content sitting in the stands?
  11. Don't get your panties in a twist. My comment was obviously a sarcastic one. I was on a team that won 12 games in my 3 varsity years. My parents would never think about pulling us out of a school for strictly sports.
  12. My parents purposely moved from Burlington to Park Hills when my older brother was an incoming sophmore so he could have a shot at state. It worked as he won state in 1997. They then moved to Fort Thomas so I coulf win state which I did in 1998 and 1999. We don't be grudge our parents one bit. Parents know what is best fro thier children, not the other way around.
  13. I know this a post from 2 years ago but SilverStang has gotten to me on this one. The way he is whining and moaning about a playing field is keeping the stereotype about Brossart people alive and well with me. Boo-Hoo about tax payer money building a stadium that should have been built when the school was. So poor ol' Brossart has to drive to Newport or Scott to play ball, no school or government forced you to start a team. NewCath to the best of my knowledge still pays Newport to use thier field; whens the last time anyone complained? Who payed for the turf? Newport taxes? If so the residents who sent thier kids to NCC that actually live in Newport did not complain. I have family in FT. Thomas who constantly pay (via taxes) for upgrades to Ft. Thomas public schools, and thier children went to private schools. They don't say a peep b/c they chose to live thier. Brossart people remind of spoiled kids, they want everything but do not want to sacrafice or put in the hard work to achieve thier goals. What about St. Henry's baseball field? The baseball team is in total control and has total responsibility of it. Quit crying and do something to improve your situation.
  14. Good for them. I still want to know why they didn't incorporate a football/track facility when the new school opened almost 20 years ago?
  15. Is anyone giving credit to the umpire crew for making the correct call in such a crucial situation? How many people knew that was a balk? I had no clue. Great job by the boys in blue on making the correct call despite the situation.
  16. Read in the Cincinnati Enquirer (not the Kentucky) that the annual NKY east vs. west all-star game will not be played do to lack of participants for the west team. If this is true (and if it's in the papers it has to be) then that is more than a shame. I was privileged to be apart of the east aquad my senior year and had blast. Playing with instead of against, and socially interacting with guys you never would have ever was a once in a lifetime experience. Fear now from the NKFCA is that no one will want to start it back up next year. The ones that lose out are the seniors who were honored by being chosen to play and will not. The west should have been the easiest squad to fill with Boone, Ryle, Cooper, and Conner all on that side. Freaking shame.
  17. How can you say you are pretty sure all these players played together for the Ft. Thomas Bulldogs, then only name 2 players for each team? There are plenty of other teams let alone leagyes for kids from both schools to play in.
  18. I suppose I should have specified. Teams competing for a " national championship" (which usually have over 200 boys in each class) don't have a head coach talking frequentely about winning a national title, but a coach with only 100 boys per class is doing it all the time. if you want to win this "national title" you need to expand outside of the GCL. Teams that win the "national championship" are huge schools no doubt, but they also play great programs on a semi to national level.
  19. Why does Highlands have this love affair with the GCL. Yes it is one of the most highly talented conferences/districts in the country every year, but how often do these teams win the state title? Why not try to schedule teams from Indy or Columbus, or further (they might have tried this is pure speculation)? Most teams these days play a semi national to national schedule if they want to win a "national championship".
  20. Try adding a period or two in that sentence pal. What are you even talking about?
  21. Word is that NewCath will be small upfront. But they are supposed to have monsters in the offensive and defensive backfields. Rumor has it thier middle LB is getting letters from the likes of Mount St. Joe's, TMC and even offers from as far away as Union College in Historical Barboursville.
  22. What an awesome block on the kickoff for Trinty. Has to be one of the hits of the year.
  23. What does "Boyle will always be Boyle" mean? Do you mean Boyle co. from prior to 1999 or Boyle county since 1999? If its the former it'll be a long season.
