  1. I personally prefer blind draws, that's the way it's been since I can remember in the 39th district. But the KHSAA needs to say blind draws or seeding for all districts. Make it uniform and fair across the the entire state. As far as regional tournaments are concerned rhe way it's set up seems to work just fine. I prefer the blind draws just because a smaller or weaker school could draw a equal stature school and be an upset away from a regional berth. Just seems more fair to put everyone in the hat and let the chips fall where they may.
  2. I agree about the open gym statement, the rules need to be enforced, but this means the KHSAA needs to grow a backbone. I was for a 35 sec. clock but after reading the entire thread so far I,ve been convinced to change my mind. Shot selection is going to decline an already abysmal pct. as it is. Get rid of the 3 point arc. A lot of teams either shoot beyond the arc or layups. They have all but neglected the 10 to 15 ft shot and using the backboard is like committing a crime. I feel players might have to actually learn how to set proper screens, weak side rebounding might come back into play instead of the weak side man setting up for an anticipated skip pass for a 3 ball shot and basic passing and offensive skills might develop a little more. Besides the 3 ball down in 3rd through 8th grades is killing some kids because the parents and coaches at those levels are forgetting about teaching other more important fundamentals. I,ve seen it happen for years. Get rid of the dunk also, this is just a shot to get the fans excited. I'm sure Coach O'Hearn would have rather seen Middleton lay the ball off the glass against Scott Co. than miss the dunk when the Royals tried to make a late run.
  3. Heard about the story at 6:00 news and followed up on it at 11 on WLEX on Sat.night. Lawyer and Grandfather knew nothing about the story. The bigger question is whether the judge and commonwealth's attorney knew anything about it and what they will allow Mr. Mackey to do? Story reported his first practice today, plays first game on Tues., my guess he will be in Georgetown still. Instead of some outsider former NBA'er giving advice, where are the parents and grandfather? They should be doing this job. If he was my kid there would'nt be anymore basketball ever until after he pays his dues to the justice system.
  4. All joking aside, what parking garages downtown will be rewserved for business people and such, and I could envision state tournament, UK, NCAA parking, ect. being moved to Commonwealth Stadium, Appleby's Park, Keeneland, and a few others with a raise in parking fees and having so called free shuttle service furnished by LexTrans.
  5. How about pulling up all the bleachers in Commonwealth, remodeling the interior again, enclose the outside, get one of those special fabric roofs, put down concrete with field turf for football, rearrange the seating for basketball, and call it the Bourbon Dome or the like. Move the basketball museum and ad other UK sports to it also and there would be your on campus facility Rick and Tubby wanted. LOL! Though somebody has probably got a feasability study stuck in drawer somewhere where this was disscussed in a past athletics meeting.
  6. Mason Co. has to drop down just because of the lack of bench strength and not to beat a really dead horse here, but the coaching staff's unwillingness to strengthen it. You can't play 3 or 4 on 5 and expect to go far. Three good individual players in their own right but the team aspect is questionable at times, especially this coming year. 1. Montgomery Co. until someone in the region knocks them off! 2. Clark Co. 3. Paris 4. Mason Co. 5. Bracken Co. 6. Bishop Brossart 7. Pendleton Co.
  7. Thank You, You Reach, Billy Ray Fawns and Corey Williams are the names that escaped me.:thumb:
  8. This will be a hard one for 10th Region fans and historians, wish Punk Griffin was here to help out. I know I'll leave someone out so don't hold it against me! Starting 5: G-Ronnie Lyons-Mason Co. G-Chris Lofton-Mason Co. C-Tom Boerwinkle-MMI F-Fred Walker F-Bill Gaines Bench Players: Bruce Jones-Bath Co. Skeets Smith-Maysville Lynn Hopewell-Clark Co. Larry Gay-Clark Co. Jerry Calvert-Maysville Billy Custard-Harrison Co. Preston Knowles-Clark Co. Darius Miller-Mason Co. I can't remember the name but he was the star player on Bourbon Co.'s 1984 team. SORRY! Also my memory fails me again but the 6'8" kid who led Montgomery Co. to the State Tourny under Bart Rison. I have tried to give this TEAM an equal balance of size, speed, quickness, and shooting ability. Coaches: Head Coach-Earle D. Jones 1st Asst.-Woodie Crum 2nd Asst.-Kelly Wells 3rd Asst.-Earl Redwine or Phillip Wood
  9. Here are some contenders in the 10th Region, the one's I've seen or been told about. 1. 2003 Mason Co.-Lofton and Company and the pieces fell into place! 2. 1948 Maysville-Coach Jones and Calvert & Cooke and the rest. 3. 2004 Mason Co.-Lofton & Co. come up a little short, but still a good run. 4. 1984 Bourbon Co.-Coach Day and the Colonels one of the best also. 5. 1972 Maysville-Coach Creamer, Walker, Smith, Turner and a Final 4 appearance with a big upset of Louisville Central in the quaterfinals! 6. 1936 Brooksville-Old timers have told me they had a great team. 7. 1981 Mason Co.-Coach Feldhaus starts the run to Rupp with no stars and a total team concept. 8. 1975 Bath Co.-Bruce Jones and Wildcats, a very solid starting 5. 9. 1968 Clark Co.-Lynn Hopewell and Larry Gay led this stong Cardinal Team. 10. 1970 Paris-Coach Redwine and Big Bill Gaines lead a seldom mentioned but very good Paris team. I know I have left out some very good Harrison Co. teams of the 60's and 70's and some very good Clark Co. teams of the 80's that caused my beloved Royals some major problems. Also to all 10th Region fans please refresh my old memory if I have inadvertently left off anybody due to space restraints.
  10. My dad attended Maysville High, he talks about George Cooke playing as an eighth grader under Coach Jones. Got to see Fred Walker too. They have to be 2 of the top 5 at Maysville I believe.
  11. UK called his dad and asked permission to contact on the day Billy G was hired because his dad had to excuse himself from my wife's office to take the call. Witnessed it all. Darius has been traveling and playing AAU all summer and I believe it was reported locally that he will announce during the fall signing period where he will attend. UK is still high on the list I was told.
  12. Miller was offered a scholarship, hasn't taken it though. If Billy G. gets the committments he wants for next year 08, I could see them offering Miller the Tubby Smith walk-on option that he offered to several in-state players who chose to go elsewhere for free and became decent players.
  13. Reminds me of another KY player, the legendary Mike Scott of Greenup Co. and Wake Forest fame.
  14. Great game and atmosphere. Scott Co. has a nice facility, could have used a couple of more exits for traffic after the game. For the game itself, Mason should have won if they could have hit their free throws and not forced bad passes in the opening quarter, though Scott Co.'s defense and intensity at the begining had alot to do with that. Wish the boys and girls would have sat at the same benches for both games, made sitting close to your cheering section a little difficult. Luckully, the Scott Co. fans I sat next to were first class!:ylsuper:
  15. I thought Fred Hester retired a year or two ago. Steve Appleman is listed on all official papers as the AD at Mason Co. Wonder what wool Mason Co. is pulling over some eyes on some state regulations? Besides, if the KHSAA hadn't screwed with the districts and regions in their infinite wisdom, the schools from Northern KY would still be in the 9th Region where they belong and Fleming Co., Bath Co. and possibly Lewis Co. would be in the 10th Region where they belong!
  16. What has hurt the 39th District over the last 15 to 20 years and to Mason Co.'s advantage has been the consolidation with Maysville, the closing of Tollesboro, and the moving of Fleming Co. out of the district and region last year. Used to be some very interesting draws and upsets when it was a five team district.
  17. Mason Co.-Allen Feldhaus: Laid the foundation for the program that is now one of the best year in and out in the the state. Maysville-Earle Jones Harrison Co.-Woodie Crum Pendleton Co.-Phillip Wood Fleming Co./Maysville-Bob Hall
  18. Talked with her and her mother after the Ripley game and she should be back at practice sometime next week if the medicine and therapy works. Good Luck Megan. We need ya!:dancingpa
  19. I am in favor of a 35 second clock, but let's change the rules on 3-pointers and dunking. Get rid of that, and you might be surprised by the decrease in poor shot selection, showing off, and increase in assists and an all around fundemental play. Too many kids missing from 10 ft. in because they haven't been taught to use the backboard and they can hit all day long from behind the arc while being guarded, but can't hit their free throws when the game is on the line and no one is guarding them.
  20. I know Chris Lofton is the all time leading scorer at Mason Co, surpassing Ronnie Lyons, but from watching both of them play, I have to give the edge to Lyons. He was shorter and had to play against bigger guards and I would say that 90% of his shots came from behind the 3 point line, if it existed back when he played, which means Chris wouldn"t come close to breaking his scoring record if they both had played under the same rules. Watched him score 60 one night against Bath Co. at the Fieldhouse and hit a half-court hook shot from in front of the scorer's table in the district finals against Maysville while being double-teamed. MCPAPA should remember those moments as well.:thumb:
  21. Congrats to Dustin from all the Mason Co. Big Blue faithful !
  22. I have been attending the 10th Region Tournament since about 1968, and the Fieldhouse just gives the tournament a little extra something in March. But when the 40Th District gets to vote again I'm sure Montgomery will get a shot to host it. But, if attendance is down and therefore the main factor "MONEY" goes down significantly, then i am guessing Montgomery will have a hard time persuading schools to vote for them a second time, reguardless of the issue of fairness of Mason hosting every year. Also, if someone from the Northern KY area could answer if and when the new NKU arena is finished, if they will deduct rent from the total money pot, if the tourny gets played once on a trial basis there? Also, how will schools feel about splitting that money with NKU? And does the 16th Region give MSU a cut and WKU gets a cut of the 4th? This hasn't been mentioned and I was just wondering how this works?
  23. As far as I know, yes, all games to be played at St. Pat.:thumb:
