Yeah. Scott County led all the way. Mack must have had an off game, couldn't seem to hit anything. Fares was superb for Scott County as was Guyn. Brings BS back into the pack. Final was 86-65 I'm told.

I left with 6:00 minutes to go and Scott County up by 22.

I'm going to have to go see this one myself. Can't believe that coach Hicks won't have the Cardinals better prepared than the last time so I'm going with Scott County in a squeaker.

Both the 11th and the 10th have dangerous first round opponents possibly. The 11th champ would likely get UHA and Scotty Hopson while the 10th champ would likely face either Elliott County or Rose Hill.

Darius did his thing when Novosel had four fouls, prior to that he wasn't much of a factor. Vee Sanford's cramps kept him from being much of a factor at the end. There was a tieup between Novosel and Darius that was Darius' fifth foul but not called. Some of you make it sound like LexCath got all the calls. Enjoy the win and quit crying about the officiating. There are always issues when two evenly matched teams play. Good luck against Bryan Station everyone.

Congrats to Mason on a great win. Good to see Darius have a good game late. Everyone left their all on the floor so I can't complain. I'm scared to death of Bryan Station considering what they did to Scott County. No, Mason isn't head and shoulders above any of the top four and probably a few others. If anyone is in front of the pack right now it looks like the Defenders. Setty was my player of the game tonight but Mason would have lost without Darius' late game antics. Kind of reminds me of what Vee Sanford did for Catholic the last time. Here's hoping there is a chapter three. Mason County fans should become LexCath fans when the 11th regional tourney rolls along.

Not really controversial since the only people rooting for Modesto were local (maybe Mason fans) who adopted them. The pace was very frenetic but I just thought we got some breaks that we usually don't get. It was very physical I thought both ways. Maxpreps had Modesto ranked 84 in Ca. which I found amazing. I'm usually not impressed by out-of-state teams like I was this bunch. Modesto opened a ten point lead at half time but part of this was because Novosel missed most of the first half with foul trouble. Taylor Stewart probably led LexCath in scoring but I didn't hear any stats, just a guess.

Modesto had a UCLA commit who was real good, very active on both ends and had several nice dunks. Actually their whole team looked good and I think LexCath benefited from favorable officiating but who's complaining? Probably the best game I've seen at LexCath this year. Their record was only 9-3 but I think they are better than any Ky team I've seen. Ca. basketball must be way ahead of us if this was only a good team.

Wazoo sports broadcast both of todays games and is planning to broadcast tomorrows games but I don't see the Rose Hill game listed. I would check anyway to make sure. They usually telecast all the games when they go somewhere.

The schedule says LexCath plays Modesto Christian. Was there a change made?

I predict they get well real quick tomorrow against Centennial Ga. @ LexCath. Centennial had a lot of trouble with RoseHill tonight winning by a bucket.

LexCath wins with surprising ease 75-48.

Maxpreps has Calvary Baptist as number two in NC and they are 18-0. LexCath is 22 nationally. Should be a good game.

Elliott is an excellent team but I don't think they match up well with Bryan Station or Scott County. Either of these teams would probably win big because they handle the ball well, are very quick and have strong inside games. I would put Elliott in the second ten.

Good game between two of the states best programs. Scott County has the inside players to contain Mason and also some excellent three point shooters like Portwood. On a neutral court I would predict a tie but at the fieldhouse, I will go with Mason by a couple.

Miller presumably would be a two guard unless he gets big enough to be a three forward. His outside shot seems iffy but he is a good slasher and he passes very well. Does this sound like anyone on the UK team? Jasper maybe except he plays point but Miller may be able to do this also. I haven't seen him enough to get a feel for his ball handling under pressure but it is good for someone his size at the high school level. I think he will do mop up duties for a year or two but won't play significant minutes until his junior year at best.

Novosel needs more touches for sure. LexCath's best outside shooters, after Smart, are Sanford and Stewart who also are the best penetrators. The latter two were non factors until the second half, hence the discrepancy in scoring. Catholic had just reduced the margin to seven when Novosel was called for a foul that probably shouldn't have been called. Salsman protested and got the technical. Five made free throws later the game looked settled until Botkin got some "mo" back for Catholic with the shot at the buzzer, thus making up for T. The point is that Catholic didn't play it's best in the first half and Mason benefited. The half time stats had Mason shooting ten of twelve free throws to LexCath's none. The law of averages came into play in the second half and things tightened up. A good three point shooting team usually makes around 40% at best. Mason had 60% in the first half and weren't as hot in the second half as one would expect. Some on here are blaming the loss on Mason being tired. Maybe so, but other factors also can explain the gradual turnaround of this game. LexCath players knew they hadn't played well and yet the game was still in their reach. Mason players knew they had given their best shot in the first half and yet they were still in a competitive game.

Mason County got the lead in the first half by shooting threes (6 of 10) which they do very well. Catholic meanwhile went inside mostly. When the threes quit falling as much in the second half and Darius began getting in foul trouble, they had little left. I hate to see a team I'm rooting for have success at the three point line at the outset for this reason. Meanwhile Stewart and especially Sanford began warming up and the rest is history. Next time Mason needs to work the ball inside more. You live by the three, Etc. I'm so glad Mason let us win by hitting pressure shots down the stretch. They really gave it to us and we have no chance of ever beating them again according to some of the posts on here. Get a grip, Mason is one of the better teams in the state but they aren't last years Scott County or even the equal of the Lofton teams yet. I doubt they will reach that level this year but will contend for state for sure. I do want to thank the Mason fans and team for the class they always seem to show. You are number one in the state in my book in this regard despite some of the posts I've seen tonight which I can understand considering the high hopes and expectations you had after the Hawaii experience. I hope Mason wins the rematch, the worst thing that can happen to LexCath is to win twice and then have to beat Mason again in the state if we get that far. Time for bed and thanks again for another great basketball experience.

I shouldn't have singled out a particular fan group. My apologies. I really like the Elliott team and have a niece who taught at the school. I hope they make the Sweet 16 this year.

I generally read all the posts regarding certain teams like Mason and Scott County, so I know about their Hawaii experience. Maybe they have had a bad tournament so far but I like our top four after Miller. I only made the earlier officiating comment in response to others who were suggesting the officials would perhaps favor LexCath. I've thought the officiating has been very balanced in the games I've seen despite complaints from Elliott County fans to the contrary. Sometimes calls are missed but I see no pattern favoring one team over another. Miller> Stewart Novosel>Middleton Smart> Setty Sanford> Rest of LexCath> rest of Mason

It's only a guess but one of the advantages a small county school has over an urban private is the community support. LexCath has many sports programs for girls and boys that other schools don't offer (Hockey and Ultimate Frisbee for instance). The parents of players are the only ones you see at games for the most part, except for championships at the regional level or higher. I know a lot of the students are at practice at night. The LexCath community takes a lot of pride in their athletic accomplishments but I think their success has reduced the interest until the games really count. When fans are there, they usually aren't as loud as county fans because they aren't as involved during the season. This is also true of the other Lexington schools so it's more of an urban thing I think. As for the tournaments, I think these are needed to pay the bills. I always find it ludicrous that a school that has such minimal following gets accused so much of breaking rules when the interest in a given sport is so much less than at rural schools.
