  1. How long will Lickert stay at Campbell County? I believe that is what some are thinking in the County.
  2. Highlands had a bye that year when Newport Central Catholic refused to play them following a disputed victory the year before. Coach Schneider and Coach Duffy had a heated exchange, as did many of the Highlands players and NCC players/coaches late in the game when NCC players continued to lay on the field following plays to stall out a Highlands game winning drive. Highlands won on a fake PAT that NCC fans to this day said was trapped, while Highlands fans call it a clean catch. Highlands and NCC did not play the following season and wound up with a 9 game regular season.
  3. I think the demise of HHS Basketball is a bit premature. Several injuries over the past few years caused these guys to miss out on really competing for the 9th Region Title. I remember some extremely mediocre years in the early 90's when football players simply did not play basketball. Duffy and Messmer didn't seem to want to cooperate with each other. I experienced it. Schlarman was a very good coach (imo). Remember he was an extremely active assistant in the glory years of Lorenzen, Smith, Glazier and Stegman. As for Mike Flynn, his resume doesn't get any better. He has won everywhere he has been. Highlands will be much better by years end. It only takes one or two guys with some well coached roll players to get things moving in basketball. They will be okay.
  4. Didn't NC lose to Beechwood? Comparing scores is not always accurate, but I would think NC would struggle with Mayfield.
  5. Coach Barth took over the Walton job in 2009 just in time for the season to start. Coaches and players were not on the same page for a majority of the 1st season. The coaches and players then got an entire off season and regular season to grow. They did quite nice. Coach Barth along with his staff are on the same page. Coach McMillan stepped up big time for the middle school program mid-season to prevent impending mutiny. Coach Barth, varsity coaches and middle school coaches are on the same page now. It will pay huge dividends for Walton into the future. All of the staff deserve big props for the time and dedication to get the school and City of Walton excited about their team.
  6. I 2nd Walton Verona's Jeff Barth. I am not completely familiar with all the other 1A schools in other parts of the state. This was Walton's second year of District play ever. Walton was 2nd in their district and won a playoff game. Coming into the season they had never won against a District opponent. I would expect them to progress further next season in 2A.
  7. Wrong turns, poor lights, mud bowls, mountain ball, hard core guys, gravel in your guts, spit in your eyes. I gues anything in the moutains flies. How about lining up and playing a football game?! People want respect, well they need to give some before they get some.
  8. The recipe for perpetual ignorance is: Be satisfied with your opinions and content with your knowledge.
  9. Would coach have had this conversation if Brossart were staying in NKY Single A? Could be a nice time to get out before a healthy dose of #3 seed at best for the forseeable future.
  10. Coach Mueller has the same weekly injury report as Bill Belichick. Will Sully play? Will Compton play? Will we see more action from McCoy? All 3 of these guys could start on any team in the state, and they haven't played in weeks (other than McCoy last week to ice the game).
  11. Two years ago the HHS fans were treated awful there. Last season the JC fans I was around in the stands were very, well, uninformed. They weren't gracious host and they traveled with little class. Wouldn't expect anything different this time around. I'm sure someone on here will try and put rose colored goggles on this, but it sound like the Old Guy knows what I'm talking about.
  12. This McCoy kid is quite the capable player. He is too good to be just the back up QB. Many times these boys look good in practice and at the JV level, but doesn't translate to varsity action. Not true here. Dixie has way too much talent to be 6-6 IMO. Looks like many little problems have lead to bigger problems.
  13. Highlands has been banged up all year, and their top run stopping LB has been out for several weeks. That being said, see JB's post before mine. Who knows.
  14. Bearcats: Execute your offense just as you have for the majority of the season, contain on special teams like you know how, then get into position on D like you've been coached, pin your ears back an get after Frankfort! Good group of kids and coaches who have all gotten better as the year has progressed. Bearcats can win this one.
  15. It is my understanding that Jerry Cline was more than welcome back at Walton-Verona this year. I believe he had a newborn child and wanted to pursue other career opportunities in the Kenton County School District.
  16. I will say Walton should win this one. I can't say why, don't know much about Bracken other than scores. If Walton plays their game then it's a blow out.
  17. This is Walton's 3rd year of varsity football. Who should they be playing? This post conveys a personal problem with the staff or a low football IQ.
  18. Walton should handle these guys. Hopefully learned to come out and play hard after last week
  19. Not sure of his exact custodial arrangements, but I am quite sure of the policy in Grant Park and that a similar arrangement is not City wide.
  20. I did see Skirvin play, and he was very, very good. Best running back not named Alexander was Justin Frisk at Highlands (IMO).
  21. Dayton has an interesting history that goes back much further that Mr. Kleete in the '80s. John Wooden was originally hired as football, baseball and basketball coach. Dayton had solid teams in the 50's, 60's and 70's. State champions in the late '60's and they beat the might cake eaters in the '60's as well.
  22. The soccer coach needs to stop with the field complaints. The state championship game is played in Georgetown on a natural similar surface. Deal with it.
  23. Not a fun game for either team. Typical Highlands team uses this to work on things for other games. Highlands by as much as they want.
