Why are people talking about coaching changes at teams that are still in the tournament? Seems to me that these coaches still have their teams in the game. Hazard and Wolfe one of these coaches will have their team in the regional semi finals and the winner of that game may win it all.

Wolfe County had two undefeated years in district play in 1986 and again in 1987. The 1986 version had jackson city for a brief stint in the 56th district and made Wolfe County a perfect 10-0 vs. district competition. They were 8-0 the next season for 18 straight wins vs 56th district competition.

AMEN, That would definitely solve the problem......Most all A school sports programs rely heavily upon their 9th graders to compete for their athletic programs.......why would they not count for the total enrollment. This opens it up for manipulation.

I was going by the numbers the "professor" gave in his post. Take their total # of students and then take the numbers 10-12 and then subtract from total and you get the number of freshman. What I mean by 2nd time freshman is that site base councils can set the requirements to be sophomores in schools so that it is a credit or so higher and alot of freshman will remain freshman first semester of what would be their sophomore year (the time of the count to get into the all A). 2nd semester these students would then get their credits and be sophomores and then be juniors the next year. You do this to 30 or more students then you may qualify.....I'm not saying anyone currently did this, but it has been done in the past in the 14th region. No way a true all A school would ever have 235 in their freshman class. Which, according to the Professors post....knott county has. AND the professor has been very reliable on these posts.

Also, this would mean that Knott Co. would have 235 Freshman this year???? Times that by 4 and you would have 940 students. I know they won't be equal...but Wolfe, Lee, owsley, Buckhorn, June B, Hazard, and all of the true all a schools would NEVER in a million years have 235 freshman. The All A committee needs to look at this and make changes.

So Knott County qualifies by 1/2 a student.....What did they do, cut somebody in half so they could qualify?....kidding, but that is awful close...

That would be a classy move on Knott Centrals part. They have always had first class citizens in Knott co. so I wouldn't doubt if this isn't true.

They used to count grades 9-12 and now they count grades 10-12. AND they count it first semester, allowing many holdback 2nd time freshman not to be counted. Our gripe is that it needs to be counted 9-12 and done so for maybe four consecutive years so that it is harder to get in if you are not a true all A school. If not, Ky. needs a class size system. Used to there were many medium sized schools and some small schools and a handfull of larger schools. Now all the medium sized schools have consolidated and now you have the larger consolidated schools and the small county schools like lee and owsley who have no schools to consolidate. It is time to fix the All A for what it is intended or to class size ky.

5 classes A 175 and under AA 176 to 476 AAA 474 to 776 AAAA 776 to 1076 AAAAA1076 and over and of course a private class..let them decide how they do it. This is how important class sizing is...think of breathitt co. they has lost in 3A football for years....they drop ONE CLASS to 2A and have several state championships and community pride in their football. Their student athletes have been provided outstanding opportunities and memories. As educators we should be about providing as many opportunities to our students as possible. Why not have 5 state champions with so many more students participating in state tournaments. Instead we are expecting our students from our smaller schools to compete with the big schools and when they fail.....they feel like they aren't as good or they feel unsuccessful in their athletic adventures...when the deck is stacked against them to begin with. This is Ky. and basketball is basketball...changing the state tourney will only enhance it. There are older people who have went to the state tourney for years as a social event who fear the change. It is time we get in line with the 49 other states...are the 49 other states wrong and we are right...or is ky. years behind.....i know the answer.

In a true class system....riverside would be in a class competing against schools with 175 students or less that are not private.....they would have some type of hope for their athletic program then...now, why would they even try? You are one up on me...nobody has ever called me a genius.

You are correct.....the All A needs to count the 9th graders in their count for all a schools.....They count enrollment in grades 10-12...this allows for manipulaton from bigger schools to get into the all A. That is the problem

They shouldn't not count 9th grade statistics. They have one date (oct. 22) that a school has to show that they are 425 and under grades 10-12. This is first semester.... Many schools up their requirements to be a sophomore by their site base council by one credit. This makes alot of students STAY freshman their first semester and then become sophomores their 2nd semester when it doesn't matter. Schools with 225 and more freshman are getting into the all a tournament. No true A school will EVER have that many freshman. If this isn't fixed..Ky needs to class size. This needs to be fixed for the A schools......And don't give me that bull about not thinking they can compete against the bigger schools. Look at the schedules of the A schools and see who they are playing...look at perry centrals schedule...they are filled with A schools......Wolfe Co. ...an A school beat perry central last season...in girls

Lee County has one good year in the last 10 and you guys suddenly become genuises. How about Riverside.... They can cowboy up all they want and it isn't going to do them any good....their kids will feel like losers....No way they will EVER be able to compete with perry or letcher. I agree with the idea that we need to go to a class system and we need to quit whining and do something about it. The fact of the matter is the bigger the school, the bigger their advantage....sure every now and then the small school can sneak up and have a good year....but by the time you do...you have been beaten by the bigger schools in your area so much that it is a mental block and you are already at a disadvantage come tournament time.....you in lee co. will see what i mean by this in the regional tournament....I know you will compete and will do everything you can to win, but losing to these teams for so many years is hard to overcome at tournament time.

They said they had the numbers to touchstone energy, but when it came to reporting their attendance to the state dept. for $$$ they somehow had more kids than they reported for the all a enrollment. Every region has this problem.... Jackson Co. got in as a bigger school and dominated the 13th for years...the 14th had whitesburg who was a 2a school who won it every year they were in it. The 16th had West Carter Monroe co. is another example.....2A and private schools are dominating the all A tournament.....plain and simple....All A Schools are going to have to stand up and boycott the tournament and create their own.....because we are years behind the rest of the states when it comes to class sizing.. ....heck maybe lee and wolfe county could get into the three rivers conference tournament with jackson and riverside and feel great about dominating that one.
