All Play No Work

CovCath wins this one although I don't know if I could say how much they (Covcath) have improved in the three weeks. One could argue that the offense has improved by the output versus Dixie as compared to the first two weeks. One could argue that the defense has improved, I guess, although that's kind of tough to judge. But I think CovCath started the season significantly better than Scott and neither team has convinced me to change that thought. I also think CovCath wins more than 1 game.

Actually DL Keating was the KR Sports Player of the game against CovCath and DL Wedding and DL Geisler were both critical parts of the defensive line last year when NCC won the state championship. They use those 3 plus a speed rusher on the D-line primarily but they do have some depth behind them also. Kiernan's little brother who is actually larger will play in short yardage situations.

Schools can't just move up because they want to. You can ask, and in general it helps to have a ecomonic/travel reason to move up in class. And you can't cause a district to be overloaded or leave a district with less than 4 teams basically.

Doubt that some of these margins being predicted will happen because NCC starts district play next week and being healthy is important. Handily maybe but not 50 points. And I wouldn't be surprised if QB Parr gets some PT.

Might be kind of a defensive struggle and a quick game with all the rushes. If Ryle keeps it on the ground and doesn't turn it over I can't see Campbell Co. sustaining long drives to score. If the Raiders have to throw it or simply decide to throw it, then some other things can happen. Being a district road game I think they don't, and Ryle wins.

Heard from a little birdie that some wanted this game moved to Beechwood and played Friday night in order to avoid a conflict with some college football game being played at the same time elsewhere in the state.:sssh:

I'll stand by my prediction that if NCC struggles with Bellevue they have no chance of winning 2A and Ryle will have no chance of winning 6A.... you know since this is a prediction thread.

If NCC is in a dogfight in this game and only wins by 2 TDs it doesn't bode well for them in the 2A playoffs and it would mean Ryle has no shot in 6A.

Saw where St.X dresses 138 players and all but 2 are Juniors and Seniors.

Only thing I've ever heard is that when they used to play in the regular season it was near the end of the season and it was a "very festive" atmosphere similar to a b-ball game crowd at NCC. The presumption was the ND people at that time did not want to deal with gearing up for that right before districts and regionals started. When they could not find a date earlier in the season to play they started scrimmaging. I would imagine now they figure they both play in the same tournaments so they probably could meet in those.

Okay win this week and their season is over in the second round, or lose this week and it is over in the first round? Gee how about just make the playoffs and then play whoever comes up. Heck why not relish a chance to shock the state by beating Beechwood in the first round. And if Ludlow does lose, the Brossart game then truly does become the game whereby Ludlow's season will be on the line.

How are they (Ludlow) playing for their season? Ludlow is going to make the playoffs even if they lose to Dayton. And avoiding Beechwood in Round 1 just means getting them in Round 2.

Hey its after Week 3 but who's counting??? 1. Highlands - Rolling 2. Boone Co. - Have to be more balanced eventually 3. Ryle - see Boone 4. Beechwood - Won convincingly 5. Dixie - Beat Blue Colonels 6. NewCath - Gave Ryle a tussle 7. Campbell Co. - Some work to do 8. CovCath - Showing some signs of life 9. Simon Kenton - Not as bad as Week 1, not as good as week 3 10. Holmes - Better than in week 1, Dayton shook after this week.

They do not play in the regular season and haven't for quite some time. They do have an extensive scrimmage involving frosh, JV, and varsity every year.

I'll agree on the Beechwood part but having seen Dayton scrimmage twice and play once, and having seen Bellevue play twice I'd rate Dayton a slight favorite over Bellevue right now. However, Dayton, Bellevue, and Ludlow all aren't separated by all that much.

If Dayton can rebound from their loss against Beechwood, and I think that is a huge IF because of the domination, then I think Dayton will win at home. If they come out still thinking about last week then Ludlow has every chance to beat them. Because it is at home the Dayton crowd should provide some backing, and sometimes the best thing about getting blown out is you get to play another game the next week.

Lots of things can happen in games like weather, bouncing back from the last game, injuries, etc. NewCath had a very physically challenging game last week with a large school. But if both teams bring their A game NewCath will win handily. For a small school NewCath has some serious depth and will extensively play about 40 players. That is a huge advantage in a game with a school their size or smaller (and not that big of a deal against a 6A school like Ryle). That plus their overall speed should be the major difference.

Actually this should be an interesting game from the 1A playoff perspective. We know what Beechwood did with Lloyd. A 20-0 win that was 10-0 for most of the night. It will be interesting to see if LCA can put more on the board and how much Lloyd scored on LCA. Either way have a cheesburger from the grill by the concession stand. That's a sure thing.

Tend to agree on those and NCC at #6. After that there seems to be a gap although Campbell may be an unknown quantity still depending on how good Boone Co truly is.

What about the Coach Yeagle versus LCA angle?

NCC used LB Pabst who also punts to do kickoffs and attempt the first PAT. Not sure if the snap was fumbled or a designed play. He has place kicked before. After that they went for two each time because of the score e.g up 12-7 trying to make it 14-7. The place NCC missed the kickers most was probably on kickoffs as they could not reach the endzone for touchbacks and Ryle could. Ryle might not throw it all that well but they do not make mistakes in the run game. No fumbles. And converted a couple of 3 and longs by running the ball. Guess they will have to throw it at some point, but did not have to tonight. Defense was solid gave up some yards but made some big stops. NCC played okay but turnovers did them in. Put the ball on the ground way too much and were fortunate to recover some of them. The INTs (3) were one flat overthrown to an open receiver, one deflected at the line high into the air, and the final one in the endzone on 4th down. And on the final play you just aren't going to see any kind of flag in that situation. (Unless it is Ohio State in the national championship game) Better to have it decided on the field that by a flag.
