Anybody who makes you fire your assistants. Hicks is a good coach, I did not intend to question Coach Hicks' ability. I was simply wondering if the firing of his assistants had anything to do with people being unhappy with the program. I am in no way close to the Connor program, it was simply a question. As far as who puts heat on a high school coach; parents, boosters, administrators, etc. this forum has a number of open threads regarding successful coaches that got fired. Who put heat on Lemaster and Wise?

Is Hicks on the hot seat? I have always thought he did a good job, but they have underachieved the last two years.

Coach Edmondson's best players are developed by summer coaches. I'm not even sure she would argue that point. Other programs do this as well. WV baseball is fairly good year and year out. I would argue that all of his players are developed by someone else. He loses a lot of players over his coaching methods. I'm not sure all players want to be as committed as the core four girls we are discussing. If coach Edmondson's turns up the commitment, she may lose some good players that don't want to committ that much time.

I think Walter was talking tongue in cheek, a bit of sarcasm for our nky friends. Collins, south Oldham and Simon should be the front runners, if I had to put a bet down in Vegas, my money would be on Collins. They have more height, more quickness, and enough depth to win the region. South is still more offense than defense. Simon has issues at point and in the post. There are others to watch, but the winner will come from those three!

I wasn't aware of qualified people standing in line. Perhaps my opinion is wrong then.

I have read the thread and re-read the thread, I don't recall anyone stepping up and saying that GC has a great coach. My point is it is a school team, and not every school has the luxury of having quality coaching candidates. Gallatin is a poor, rural district. Their pay scale is not going to encourage people to leave their current job to come to Gallatin. Most of their good coaches are home grown. Perkins, Jones, Roberts, and Alexander are homegrown talent. Realistically, who can afford to drive from out of the county with today's gas prices and be a softball coach for the pay they are going to receive? Historically, you can get a good young coach, that will use you as a springboard to a better job, and then, he/she leaves and there is no one left to coach your kids and build a program. School teams are not on an even playing field. Pay, resources, feeder programs, quality of youth instruction, quality of coaches, etc are probably bigger factors to success than the number of kids in a school. Look at the programs at Gallatin or most small schools, local grown coaches make them good. WV is very lucky to have Johnny Anderson. His kids or relatives are in the program, so he will devote more time and energy than most people. He is knowledgable because his Dad was a legend at fast pitch softball. This has been a long post and I have rambled, I do not disagree with your assessment, I'm not sure I agree that GC should fire a coach, I don't think they have that luxury.

Mack, you would know better than me, but I believe Coach Perkins struggled for a few years before she made a great run in girls basketball.

I know a lot of programs that will tolerate back to back district championships and a class a regional championship. I get your point that the talent on this team may allow them to achieve at a much higher level. School teams come from different perspectives. I think eminence would take those results in any sport. I'm not aware of Grant County's girls' basketball ever achieving at the level of a school with 1100 kids. I could go on with examples. If a school likes you as a teacher, they may tolerate less than stellar coaching in order to have a happy teacher. I would hate to lose a quality teacher over firing them as a coach. I don't know that this is the case at GC, but if I were a principal, I would be first concerned with education and secondly, sports.

South Oldham is as deep and talented and has better height. I agree SK is in the hunt.

On a humorous note, most people in northern Kentucky would only consider Simon Kenton and WV as northern Kentucky. Boone, Kenton and Campbell Counties are northern Kentucky. Grant, Gallatin and Owen are wannabes. Ha!! Probably for another thread.

Hey, I make enough people mad in my day job, I'm only speaking for myself. I have heard many of the things you discussed, I just don't want to go there. From time to time my kids got questioned regarding their athletic abilities when they played, and I vowed then that I would try to be overly positive when talking about kids. Coach Edmondson is a very good person and she loves and cares for each of the kids on that team. She is an adult, and she gets paid, so to some degree, it comes with the territory. I haven't seen enough of her games to give her a fair evaluation. I see Oldham won the region, congratulations to the lady colonels.

I agree I think H. Dossett is the most worthy from GC. I think she is top 10 offensively and defensively. I'm not interested in bashing any players or coaches, I just think the system did not pick the best players this year. Congratulations to those honored.

I disagree. If I play, for example, Owen County and Sutherland throws a no hitter, goes 3 for 4 with a home run and I think my team has a decent pitcher and team, then I would think she has earned a spot on the all region team. If we play WV and it is a 1-0 score with hardly any hits and Ginn pitched and hit a home run, I may assume the other players on WV are not better than Sutherland. What you see is more powerful than what you hear. Historically, most players that get selected for all region are all good players, the question is whether those that are omitted are actually better than those selected. My point is it is hard to evaluate in a subjective vote. The team is heavy with pitchers. I think it is a fair question that WV and Gallatin had very good years and their pitchers got snubbed. Why? Owen loses to Wv and GC, yet ranks two players. I don't want to insinuate that Owens girls are not worthy, because that is not my intent, however, if I'm from GC or WV, I'm feeling slighted.

Johnny Anderson is an excellent coach, very worthy of the award. Players are harder to judge. Coaches may see a player a couple times a year. A great game or a bad game at the wrong time may effect the vote.

If you have a desire to play college sports you have to play aau. Baseball, softball and basketball rarely watch high school games. College coaches have told me they want to evaluate players when they are playing against players of similar talent. High school players can pad their stats against below average competition. A player in baseball may bat 500 and hit several home runs against pitchers throwing 70 mph, if he goes 0 for 6 against the two pitchers he faces that throws 90 mph, he may not be a college prospect. AAU allows you the opportunity to compete against the best.

Rich parents are used to having influence over decisions that effect their children.

Retro is right on. Haysley and Sherry come to mind, but they are deep with scorers. All can shoot, handle the ball and play hard.

I didn't see this as a possibility. I thought Henley would move to western Kentucky.

Gallatin started the year with four solid players and some role players. It looks like Satchwell has elevated her game. She is a tough out. They now have five above average hitters. Gallatin is capable of beating WV.

GC WV matchup should be a good one. WV should be favored but GC could pull off the upset.

Sutherland, Waldron and maybe Gambrel from Owen, I believe the two Ogden girls from Carroll

Clinkenbeard must do a better job of advising the young ladies with their academics. No defections on that side.

Good players to build around and a good coach. I believe Coach Clink will be able to put together another run at an all a region and regular regional, no state titles for this squad. Unbelievable run last year.

McNeil to Cooper is the scuttlebutt. More defections are possible.

I disagree. They should have gone to the region this year. There is still decent talent at Shelby. They were the worst coached team in the region this year. Half hearted defense, no offensive sets, no leadership. I would bet a hot fudge sundae that Shelby is district runner up this season. I agree with your assessment of the talent distribution. Collins is loaded. Shelby will have talent equal to Anderson and superior to Spencer.
