  1. It won't really matter. All three are weak at best - more like a DIII QB as opposed to a SEC QB. IF the Vols win it will be in spite of the QB and not because of him.
  2. Larry, it's kinda like me advocating the Tide as the National Champs this year (did I say that?)! In all seriousness Vol Fans and Tide Fans have always respected each other unlike some of our other foes such as Florida for us and Auburn for you guys. At any rate, I still think you guys will be extremely happy come January. Happy Thanksgiving to all!
  3. Congratulations to the Pioneers! Good luck in your game with Boone this week. It should be another very good game. It is a shame either team had to lose, but you 'Neers did what you needed to secure the win! Congratulations go to the Cougars as well for turning around their program! Mr. West has continued to get better and better throughout the season. I remember his 8th grade BCPWFL coach telling me a number of years ago that I should remember this young man since he was going to be a real stud by the time he got to high school. The same coach had a hand with another great QB at Conner, Trevor Stellman, along with many other recent and current players for the Cougars. He's seen his share of great players through the years. It's good to see him on the Cougar sideline now. Go Cougars!!
  4. Unfortunately, the other one just got home from a week in Lexington at work, so he isn't there.
  5. SK up now. Simpson is apparently taking over. My son's phone has died, so I won't be able to update the second half. First half is 20 seconds from being over. SK 28 Conner 14
  6. Apparently, I missed a text message. Conner scored the 2 point conversion after their touchdown to make it Conner 8 SK 6 SK is driving, now though with 9 minutes remaining in the half.
  7. I'll do my best - My son is texting me as big plays happen. Conner stopped SK on 4 and 1 in the next possesion.
  8. I just got a text message that the score is tied 6-6 in the 1st quarter. I don't know how SK scored, but Conner scored on a 65 yard TD pass.
  9. I'm an alumni of the University of Tennessee and consequently follow the Vols closely. A friend of mine from Alabama says that I like the GANO which stands for "God-awful-neon-orange". I'm certain many of you on this list would agree with him.
  10. Alabama is one of my least favorite teams in the SEC, but also the team I have always respected the most. I've watched them a number of times this season and believe that have the certain amount of "luck" that is needed in order to win the BCS. I look for them to beat Florida in the SEC Championship by only a small margin. Who they will play in the BCS Championship is anybody's guess (actually whether they will even play in this game is open to much conjecture). I just believe that they have a lot going for them in this race to the finish. I personally like Saban's more conventional style as opposed to that of Meyer at Florida. You can take all of what I said and add $0.75 to it and by a newspaper in the morning, though as it is only an opinion.
  11. I had to sleep on this turn of events before I could even comment on it. Being a Vol fan for over 40 years as well as an alumni of the school, I was not happy with the way Coach Fulmer was treated. I will say that I'm not surprised, though. It appears that the President of the University, Mr. Peterson, had a lot to do with this chain of events. At this point it doesn't really matter, though. We are where we are at this point. I have not been happy with the way this season has gone so far. I have not seen a team play like this since the early days of Coach Majors in the late 70's. It will be interesting to see how the last 3 games play out. At any rate, I'll remain a Vol and hope that the AD, Mike Hamilton, can hit a home run like he did with Coach Pearl and the basketball team. These are just some random thoughts from a Vol Fan that is still trying to get his arms around this decision. Coach Fulmer, Thanks for the Memories and giving the best years of your life to our University!! Go VOLS!!!
  12. Money won't be an issue. There is a $6 million fund to in place to cover his buyout should this come to pass.
  13. Unfortunately, that is part of the problem on the hill this year. Trooper, who was Mr. Excitement himself along with Coach Cut, the disciplinarian, are both gone. Troop is at Oklahoma State as the Co-Off. Coordinator.
  14. I agree - I watched on ICN6 last night and was extremely surprised by the call on Lokesak. The TV didn't show the personal foul, so I couldn't comment on that. The unsportsmanlike call was extremely weak, though as it appeared he wouldn't have gotten in to the endzone without the dive.
  15. Part of that was probably due to the defensive adjustment Ryle made at the half. They were determined not to allow the sweep as easily in the second half. I watched the game on TV and was impressed by the effort by both teams. Congrats to you, Boone Co. on winning the district.

  21. Ramar's problem was academics. Crews has the illegal substance problem again. Pearl said they would both be better off at another school and let them go.
  22. NKU Women's Basketball team wins the NCAA Divsion 2 National Championship with a 63-58 final over South Dakota. Congrats.
  23. Here is a diffent perspective than what most of you have of Coach Pearl. I understand the reasoning why few of you would ever care one way or the other about a rival team. I'm not naive enough to think that there isn't some truth to the problems some of you have mentioned about Coach Pearl's chaotic style - I get frustrated with these same problems at times as well. However, I do remember the not too distant past about the hiring mistakes made in Knoxville beginning with a wonderful person in Wade Houston but terrible head coach, going through the Kevin O'Neal years to the out-of control Jerry Green years and finally the well-meaning Buzz Peterson. That was a fairly laughable 12-15 years in the history of UT basketball. The few years of marginal success were even laughable at times. Coach Pearl has come in and changed the landscape in Knoxville. He is a master showman that understands the need for marketing. He had a lot of blue-collar players that were willing to work extremely hard to become SEC caliber basketball players so far with a few exceptions including the oft-discussed Chris Lofton and Tyler Smith. Chris worked hard on his game to become more than his seeming abilities. Tyler is blessed with ability and hasn't learned to completely harness it yet. There is a true point guard from the Michigan area coming in next season along with a true center from the Chattanooga area. Neither of these is the McDonald's allstar type of player, but should become good players with Coach Pearl's help. If they could be fortunate enough to obtain young Hopson, then they could perhaps ascend another step in their climb out of the depths of mediocrity. The Vols had no true point guard this year but played with smoke and mirrors at this position. 31-5 is not too bad of a record for a team that has this short-coming. I can't help but think that Coach Pearl is the reason that this record was accomplished. Will Coach Pearl stay in Knoxville? Many seem to think he would bolt at the first good opportunity. '98 and Gametime, to name a couple, have much better contacts to know what is going on than I do. However, I'm not so sure about him leaving in the near future, though I cannot be positive since I don't pretend to know how Coach Pearl is thinking. I do know that the Athletic Department has given him everything he has asked for in his quest to bring the UT program up to par with the traditional powers of the SEC and other national NCAA programs. His salary has kept pace with his progress to date, in my opinion. UT would pay what is necessary to keep him as long as money is the only thing that is holding him back from staying. He is building a tradition at the UT, though that is not something that can be done 2-3 years. If he can be convinced to stay long enough, a tradition could be in place at UT (probably another 4-8 years in my opinion). It is true that Tennessee is known for football and women's basketball to date. Coach Pearl has at least for this season gotten them mentioned for men's basketball. Will this keep on for the forseeable future? The jury is still out on that. In the meantime, I'll keep on cheering for the Vols and remembering the times when there wasn't much to cheer about along with the recent good times. I'll also try to keep all of this in perspective and remember that these sports we all love so well are just "GAMES" that are meant to entertain us. I'm sorry for the length of this post, but I only wanted to show a different side to the understandable (and rightfully so) opinions of the great folks from Kentucky.
