  2. I voted Kentucky simply because they have a little more semblance of a defense than Louisville. That all may change during this game, though.
  3. 5 Notre Dame 3 BYU 3 South Carolina 1 Florida State 1 Ohio State 1 Alabama 1 Delaware 1 Eastern Illinois 1 Furman 1 Mississppi Valley State Tiebreaker: 47 Points
  4. I waited until this morning to post on this subject as I didn't want to respond in anger. I was mad for about an hour last night, then decided that I had just wasted 59.9 minutes. I must admit that I was liking how Kiffin was changing up my Vols, but I also must now admit that I was very wrong in my opinion of him. For him to leave with the circumstances like this clearly shows how much character he has - zero! I've been told by many fans of other SEC schools that my Vols were headed toward a problem and didn't want to believe it (I was wrong again and they were right). It will be interesting to see how circumstances turn out with USC now. Oregeron's calling the early enrollees last night and telling them not to go to class today so they can accept a scholarship to USC was even more classless. I suspect the NCAA will take note of this with interest as they decide on penalties for the school. There will be interesting developments in LA in the next few months. The California Supreme Court ruled last week that the Reggie Bush Deal with the agent (the issue that is causing the NCAA investigation) cannot be settled with "confidential arbitration". This means that Bush, Pete Carroll, and even Kiffin and Oregeron since they were there at USC when this happened can now be subpoenaed into a testimony that relate to this case. The NCAA had no powers to compel this testimony but they will be able to use any information that comes out of these proceedings. It's interesting that the timing of Pete Carroll leaving was so close to this ruling! It also proves the Biblical principle about the "love of money being the root of all evil". The next few weeks will be interesting!
  5. You guys really slay me with your sanctimonious opinion that all things Orange have to be bad! Don't get me wrong - if most of these guys (or all as the case may be) are guilty, they deserve to go directly to jail! To blame this on the coaching staff makes about as much sense as the blame that the Georgia staff gets for their players that have decided to be stupid or the Florida or Alabama players as well - all of these teams plus most others in the country have experienced issues of idiocy from some small fraction of players. I seem to remember a few years back that a certain Kentucky basketball player was found in a vehicle that contained heroin. Was that the fault of the coach, the school or the people of Kentucky? The answer is very simple - absolutely not! Perhaps that is what has become wrong with the world in the first place - athletes are placed on a pedestal that they don't deserve. Athletic teams are worshipped more reverently than the only true God. We, as a society, want to observe a train wreck like this that can only begin to be explained as stupid as long as it is the opposing team. Don't get me wrong - I'm a Vol Fan and alumni that is sick about what has happened. Not so much for the way that it has embarrassed the University but for the fact that these young men were apparently so bored that they felt the need to attempt to rob some fellow students with a pellet pistol - the Pilot station was not robbed. I guess I'm getting old, but that thought never crossed my mind when I was that age as a way to alleviate boredom. I guess it is just a sign of the times. You can flame me if you wish, you can agree with the general premise of my post or you can do your best to teach your own children how exceedingly stupid this is to throw your life away like these guys have done. If you don't have kids because your too young for that right now, it is likely you will have them some day so teach them at that time. I'm not pointing fingers at anyone in particular - just asking that you consider the possibilty that not all things that occur at the University of Tennessee are indicative of the lunacy of these 3 (all 3 are from states other than Tennessee with Richardson from FL, Jackson from LA and Edwards from OH). I've certainly learned in the 18 years I've lived in Kentucky that there are some pretty fine people that have come out of the University of Kentucky, U of L, Alabama, UC, Ohio State as well as all the other Universities that can be named at this time.
  6. No way that penalty gets called after what has transpired this season with the officiating - I don't think it should have been called either. The Vols had their chances and did everything except block for the FG's. Coach Neyland as well as Coach Bryant always preached that when teams are equal (and these 2 were today - maybe only today but they were equal), then a special teams play will likely be the difference. The result is plain to see. Congratulations, Alabama - you earned it on the field! I don't like the results, but this one will go down as a classic! The other teams in the SEC all hate Kiffin - I'm grateful to see him on the Vols sideline! The Vols will be back in the championship discussion very shortly.
  7. Auburn - Worst fans (in my own personal experience through the years) Notre Dame - Can you say overrated Alabama - I love the age-old rivalry with UT-AL but sit on the UT side of it! Their fans are some of the best I've ever met! Florida - I have little good to say about them except their fans are a little better than Auburn's fans and their tradition is not as long - give 'em time though!
  8. As I said, he hasn't been talked about much because he only started the camp circuit this past summer. Look up the Elite Eleven Camp. That is pretty much the only highlights you'll see of him. He's very tall and has good mechanics for a tall guy. He needs to put on some weight as he only weighs 200 lbs (at best). I like Jon Crompton's tenacity, but you can take that and $1.00 and buy a US Today tomorrow morning. He can't play at the D1 level. That is really a shame as he was one of the top 3 QB's in the rankings (5 star by both Scout and Rivals). That just proves what those stars are really worth - not as much as they seem to get credit for.
  9. 6'7" Tyler Bray out of California has verbally committed to play for the Vols next season. He has not been highly recruited but that is likely due to the fact that he didn't do the camp circuit until this season. He appeared to be very competent a the Elite Eleven Camp this summer. Still, he will be a freshman next season, so he has a lot of growing to do.
  10. 5 USC 3 TCU 3 Richmond 1 Duke 1 Stanford 1 Fresno St. 1 Bethune-Cookman 1 Appy St. 1 Montana 1 Northern Iowa Tiebreaker 31 points
  11. I'm no Michigan fan by any stretch of the imagination. I'm definitely not a fan of RR either. However, this unfortunate situation was caused by him getting scammed in an illegal Ponzi scheme. It's kind of like the Madoff fiasco - many smart people have been burned by that one. RR probably deserves a break on this one, at least from the fans and the media.
  12. 5 Va Tech 3 Duke 3 Marshall 1 OK St. 1 FL. St. 1 Colorado 1 BYU 1 New Mexico St. 1 Appy St. 1 Buffalo Tiebreaker 35 pts.
  13. Congratulations to the young men from Conner! It is good to see success coming from Coach Trosper and the Cougars from Hebron! Go Cougars!!!
  14. Larry, I'm a VOL through and through - Class of '83 with a BSCE degree from the hill. I try to post when I can - been extremely busy the past month or so with work. I've lived in KY now for 17 years, but my NKY friends all know I fly the Orange flag in the fall!
  15. On that comment we can most definitely agree!! It will not happen overnight or even in 1 or 2 years.
  16. After the signing of the 5* CB, Janzen Jackson out of Louisiana, on Thursday, the ranking went up to 17 on Rivals - still not a ranking that will put fear into Florida or Alabama yet. However, gnats have a way of pestering the life out of ya
  17. First of all, to put it all in context, Kiffin made this comment in front of an extremely partisan Vol crowd at a breakfast to discuss the signings on NSD. He may have been mistaken about the rules - he may have just been stirring the pot. At the very least, he got the Vols discussed nationally on the day after signing day. In fact his calling out of UM, made more headlines than Alabama's #1 signing and the great recruiting year the Gators had. Is it risky? I would say extremely risky, though I kind of like his swagger so far. Now that his first recruiting season is over, we'll see if he and his high priced staff can back up his - let's just say arrogant approach to inter-conference relations. Only in the SEC can the recruiting wars stir up such emotion! At least he got the recruit in question to sign with the Vols, so it can't be all bad!
  18. I have to agree with you. There are NO teams in the SEC that are currently better than a 6th or 7th seed right now and this coming from an SEC homer. My Vols have only played one decent game all year against Georgetown - a middle of the road Big East team. The Cats have a lot of glaring holes. Arkansas is the best team in the league at this point in the season, IMHO. This may all change by the end of the season, but that is the situation currently in the SEC.
  19. With the contrarian pick, I"ll take the Vols 73 - 69.
  20. He may recruit well, but get ready for soft coverage on 3rd and long. He drove me crazy for years with the Vols on this very thing. He is a real good guy that's had some great players go to the NFL, though.

  22. Without a doubt, the 1982 UT-Alabama Game. The Vols had last for 11 straight years and finally won near the end of the Bear Bryant Era at Alabama. The Cumberland Ave otherwise known as the Strip was closed down by us students until 4:00 a.m. (we didn't burn any couches, though as they were too hard to come by back then ).
  23. The most memorable game I saw was in 1981 at Stokley in Knoxville between Kentucky and Tennessee. The Vols had Dale Ellis that could absolutely shoot the lights out when he was hot. Kentucky had the twin towers down low. My memory has gotten a little weak as I approach a half-century this next year, but I do remember the Vols could not stop Melvin Turpin as he scored over 40 points. I also don't believe Sam Bowie was much of a factor in this game due to his leg issues (he may not have even played). The Vols won the game in the end with the use of the infamous 4 corners that the lack of a shot clock allowed. They couldn't stop Turpin but they did stop the rest of them. The Vols didn't win against the Cats much in those days, so it was an historic Saturday night for us. The other memorable event of that night was that it was my second date with my wonderful wife of 26 years (I remember that very well - probably due to the fact that my anniversary is Thursday and I can't forget it ).
  24. This should be an awesome game. I believe the Tide will once again roll as they have throughout the season. I think their run defense will be the key with the final score being Tide 17 Gators 14.
  25. The Knoxville News-Sentinel is saying the same thing as is Chris Low. I hope it is the right decision. Time will tell.
