  1. Big win for the Tigers! Do you know how the tournament works and will Wittenberg have a chance to play in the post season tournament?
  2. The Trinity Shamrocks have a nice, young team. Coach Szabo and company have a very bright future.
  3. Count me as a Wittenberg Tiger fan as well. Tiger up!
  4. No....they gain 15 yards. I totally agree with Voice of Reason on this one. He makes very good points.
  5. Exactly my point. Two states of virtual identical populations, and such a great difference in football talent.
  6. I must be missing your point. The Lexington Herald Leader article says U of L has 6 scholarship players from the state of Kentucky on its roster. I know the entire roster is not Petrino's recruits, but, again, there are ONLY SIX on the roster. Petrino has obviously not come to see having in-state players on his roster is of any significant value.
  7. I just looked at the rosters of Alabama and Auburn....two perennial top 20 team from the same state. Alabama has over 40 from Alabama on the roster. Auburn also has over 40 players from the state of Alabama on the roster. 80 combined in-state players for Alabama and Auburn from the state of Alabama and 17 combined from UK and UofL from the state of Kentucky? WOW!
  8. I remember your post awhile back, "Ram". Very good work! The key word in the Lexington Herald Leader article, listing UK and UofL players, was SCHOLARSHIP. I looked at your list and there are many walk on players on that list. While I am happy for these non-scholarship athletes going on to play for their in-state school, those in-state schools are not investing their money on these players. Jeff Brohm is committing to in-state players and having success. Because of that, I always root for WKU (except when they play/beat my Wildcats). Brohm's successor did not have the same attitude about Kentucky High School players. I still say, the state of Kentucky not doing a good job developing high school players. I still feel it is not improving. There are a lot of nice size kids who are misled to believe they have D-I basketball talent, and thus, do not play high school football. In reality, they may have had a real future in college football.
  9. I took this from the Lexington Herald Leader online article. I think it just speaks volumes about the quality of players and development of players at the Kentucky High School level. The two big Division I schools in the state will play on Saturday, and of the probably about 170 scholarship players on both teams roster, ONLY 17 will have been high school players from the state of Kentucky. That's a measly 10%. There are a lot of factors related to this statistic, but it is wrong on so many levels, in my opinion. Your opinions, please. Louisville has six Kentuckians on its roster who were recruited as scholarship players: Kyle Bolin (Lexington Catholic), Reggie Bonnafon (Trinity), Derek Dorsey (Manual), Austin Johnson (DeSales), James Quick (Trinity) and Keon Wakefield (Male). The Cardinals have one Kentuckian in their 2017 recruiting class: Belfry offensive lineman Cole Bentley. UK has 11 in-state guys who were recruited as scholarship players: Drew Barker (Conner), Eli Brown (Warren East), Kash Daniel (Paintsville), Matt Elam (John Hardin), Zy’Aire Hughes (McCracken County), Jacob Hyde (Clay County), Drake Jackson (Woodford County), Adrian Middleton (South Warren), Davonte Robinson (Henry Clay), Ryan Timmons (Franklin County) and Landon Young (Lafayette).
  10. So this leaves how many teams out of the playoffs in classes 2-5?
  11. Didn't know that. Dumb me. :ohbrother: That is why I love Bluegrasspreps....log on and learn something new.
  12. What am I missing here? Don't ALL teams in Kentucky qualify for the playoffs?
  13. True, but not true. Not totally dependent on the luck of the draw. You will see many of the best players find a way to go to their school of choice, often the team who is winning the most. Ten years ago, it was Henry Clay. It is currently Lafayette. There are ways to get it accomplished....some of them already mentioned. EXAMPLE: Lafayette's quarterback, who has orally committed to UK, played his middle school football at Edith Hayes Middle School. Edith Hayes Middle School feeds Henry Clay High School. Did his family move into Lafayette school district?
  14. It is going to be interesting with the new high school in Lexington, beginning next year. All of this stuff seems to go in cycles. Lafayette has had the talent recently. Before that, Henry Clay was stockpiled. Dunbar had some strong teams before that. But yet, no state championships and few trips to the final game for Lexington city schools. And now you add another high school, which would make me think the talent will be even more spread out and diluted. I will say there is a lot of talented athletes in the city. Lots of issues lead to the talent not leading to ANY championships.
  15. Folks....the six class football playoff system in Kentucky is a joke. I am happy some people continue to voice their accurate opinion that it is a joke. Those of you who ridicule the complainers, telling them to "get over it", "quit bringing it up", "live with it", etc. kind of remind me of all of the people who will go to the poll on Tuesday and push the Hillary Clinton for president button, even though they know she and her thieving husband have been documented to be as corrupt as there is, but they will vote for her anyway. I am glad there are some people that still complain.
  16. I am looking forward to the Henry Clay girls volleyball team competing in the state tournament. Very talented!
  17. Actually it was 28-7 and Ryle scored to make it 34-7, when Henry Clay scored 21 unanswered points. Henry Clay actually had the ball with a chance to take the lead late in the game, but their drive fizzled. Henry Clay has been playing better the last couple of games, but I think the Blue Devils will have a difficult time on the road at Ryle on Friday night.
  18. Has Jake Johnson gone to any camps and officially been timed in the 40 yard dash? John Cole did win the 2008 Class 1A 100 meter, but his time of 11.3 is not exactly a speed burner type time. Very good, but not great. If Jake Johnson does not run track, that might be an indication that he is not super fast. Regardless, he is a good looking high school football player.
  19. I would be interested to hear from especially Somerset people who has seen Jake Johnson play the most. How does this kid compare to former Briar Jumper great, John Cole? Both on the high school level and potentially in college. I have seen him once and I am impressed with his quickness, ball skills, and playmaking ability, but I am not sure how fast he is. His 40 time will be very important as to the level which he would be recruited on at the next level. Does he have any legit college offers?
  20. Pulaski County has a nice team. Henry Clay was up a touchdown at the half, but imploded in the second half. #2 Jake Johnson for Pulaski County is an outstanding high school football player.
