  1. I was at a 14th region game this year and had a student beside me hollering. She was told, by the ref that this was breaking a rule of volleyball, to holler during a serve. He told her to be quiet or he would ask her to leave the gym. If this is a rule, I think it's stupid and needs to be changed. I also think changing sides, with inside volleyball is also stupid.
  2. My prayers are with you RebelK. I have been going through a similar situation with my mother in law. As it has been stated many times on here, you can handle anything with the help of friends prayers and Gods amazing grace. Hang in there and continue to be strong for you mother. From your posts, your mother seems to be an amazing and strong woman with alot of fight left in her.
  3. Pitino will have trouble, but so will several coaches. Over the past few years, it seems that Pitino has "calmed down" and doesn't seem as hot headed as he was. (From the games I attended). I personally don't see what the big deal is with coaches getting up off the bench and doing their job. Sometimes coaches have to venture out so the players will pay attention and hear them. As I stated in another forum, referees should be the same as what we teach our players, they should be thick skinned and ignore what is going on from the sidelines and pay attention to what is happening on the ball court.
  4. I agree with this. If the refs sent every parent out that accused them of cheating, they would loose half the crowd. Ref's names and addresses are posted on KHSAA, so anyone could see the referee's names in their district. Why don't referees have to do the same thing that we teach the kids to do, to ignore the crowd and keep their mind on the game. As a former coach, this is something I preached to my players constantly. I think if the referees did this, alot of problems would be solved. I have also refereed before and understand how hard that would be, but I have also been in the roll of a parent and I understand that parents get upset if they think their child is being mistreated.
  5. Not heard anything our way, but you never know.
  6. In the first round of the 53rd district, 1st seed Powell County defeated 4th seed Lee County in the first two games and 2nd seed Owsley County defeated 3rd seed Estill County. Powell and Owsley play for the championship tomorrow night at Lee County High School begining at 6:00pm. This should be a good match-up. Congrats to Powell and Owsley.:dancingpa
  7. I love water and plan to retire somewhere close to the lake in the next 5 years. I have two jet skis and a fishing boat. I would stay on the water every day if I didn't have to work!!!!
  8. I've seen several in Owsley County. They are beautiful animals. I've also seen two bears. I think it's amazing and awesome the first time you site one of these animals. You need to get out more, Professor!!!! And by the way, where were you today? Trying to find an Elk?
  9. I also buy and sell regularly and am actually on ebay at this moment.
  10. I watched the Jr. High Boys game last night at Owsley and was very impressed. The boys looked very structured and extremely talented. I think the future looks bright for the Owls. :ylsuper::banana:
  11. My spouse was on a date with one of my teammates and I was on a date with another person. Another one of my teammates introduced us and kept on me to go out with him. 31 years later, as of today, we are still going strong. I'm glad I listened to my teammate and dumped the other guy.
  12. I agree and many of the students at our school agree also. When we had representatives go to our board about this issue, they wanted all students to be randomly drug tested, but as you stated they can't. As for you statemeyt, a board has to have all the student's welfare in mind..... the supreme court needs to think about that also. I will and am drug tested and would anytime needed and cannot see how this infringes on anyone's rights. Drugs are illegal and if you are not doing something illegal, I dont' see why you would care.
  13. Our employees are tested and yes I definitely agree, you must start with employees and then with students. We did a survey with students and parents and had 70% support so I think this shows that most students, at least ours want drug testing. Our students said that just the threat of being tested was an easy out for them to resist peer pressure and say no.
  14. Wallace Bates coaches the Volleyball team and Girls Basketball Team at Owsley County. He is also a teacher ther and is loved by many students at Owsley County High. I talked to Wallace about an hour ago, and his team was visiting him. He said he was sore, but he is already trying to bargain with the doctors to let him come back to work next week. Prayers were answered. Thanks to all who responded.
  15. Tonight, after volleyball practice, head coach for both volleyball and girls basketball Wallace Bates was in a car wreck. He is currently in route to UK, so remember him in your prayers.
  16. That's so true!!!! I got mine 6 years ago and so did my spouse.
