Dixie continues to get stronger. For a hard fought battle, sportsmanship was excellent from both sides. The house was rockin'! Students filled 2/3 of their side of the gym. Their wave cheers and various synchronized arm moves are really something to see. Dixie students showed up as well. Great high school basketball environment! Hats off to CovCath's JV. They had to have shot over 75% for the game... 90%+ for the first half. Draining all of their 3's from wherever they wanted to. Dixie's JV is typically solid (StX overtime, close match with Scott County, beat Highlands, etc).

PC should be careful about what they ask for. If they are considered part of NKY,then they shouldn't be playing 3 Friday night games in January. Title IX considerations in Northern Kentucky have resulted in giving up those Friday nights in January to the girl's games

I think it's late in February (last game of Holme's season) at Fairfield High a few miles north of Tri-County Mall off of Highway 4. Good venue for high school basketball with decent capacity.

Luke is young and still a bit raw, but coming along nicely. The high caliber schedule Dixie is playing will serve them well as the younger squad comes of age. People don't put much stock in JV results on this site, but it's noteworthy that Dixie has been holding their own with top notch competition.

Having the home floor advantage in the championship game every year seems a bit unfair, doesn't it :confused: But, Cov Cath does a terrific job hosting the event. It is something kids aspire to... getting to play in the big game with the fog machine intro's and packed house. :dancingpa

Remember, CovCath is not restricted by silly Title IX rules. So, this is probably one of the only games in town Friday night. Get their early if you want to get in

Lawson is just now hitting his stride, hampered by a broken finger to start the season. Keener has had a few good games, but by no means is he the only other Red Colonel contributing. Muzzillo is solid, Groneman can play, Cole is overdue to get hot again, and a host of underclassmen put in their minutes. I'm not saying that Dixie is a favorite by any means, but the picture you paint about a blowout because Dixie has no depth is simply out of focus. I predict a repeat of last year's JV matchup: CCH wins by 1 in OT.

CCH defeated Dixie rather handily in their first matchup this season, but last week the Red Colonels gave the Blue all they could handle. CCH put on a triple teaming trap press in the last minute, creating the game winning tunrover with seven seconds left to finally take the lead. Dixie had a last second open 3-point attempt that rattled in and out. Freshman ball is very competitive this year.

Nice prediction. I don't recall the exact final, but I think it was Scott Cty by 15. Dixie kept it under 10 all the way, but let it slip to 15 in the end. The Colonels are playing a brutal schedule this year. Their W's and L's don't tell the whole story. They had #4 Eastern down until the very end in the 5/3 when they let it slip away in the last minute. The next day they took care of DeSales. Scott Cty might take over the #1 spot with South Laurel getting beat again tonight, and probably again later this week when they play NCH.

And, the relavent point is that a Boy's Tuesday or Thursday night game does not bring in the same dollars as a Boy's weekend game. All-in-all, an entire month's worth of lost (as in, never to be recovered) weekend revenues does affect the bottom line. This revenue issue would be magnified ten-fold if football games had to be played on Thursday night instead of Friday for the month of September.

Yep. They're losing income because the girls are playing tonight instead of the boys. At schools I'm familiar with I estimate that combined ticket and concession sales for a Friday night girl's game are about 35% of what those same sales would be for a boy's Friday night game. Those dollar differences seem to have a strong correlation with the level of play and entertainment value, don't you think? :sssh:

Cov Cath has a knack for playing four corners when they have a nice lead. I think North Carolina used to do it 15 or 20 years ago :confused: The shot clock took it out of the college game. It's okay when it works, but it can cause second guessing when it doesn't. It can have a negative effect on momentum. When football teams stop throwing the ball in the 4th quarter with a small lead, most folks would say "they're playing not to lose" rather than "playing to win".

It's okay that you choose this style of communication, but why exactly shouldn't Fritz suggest that you are disrespectful... it's your modus operandi :madman: Both defenses were stingy, and play got physical in the second half. There is a difference between run and gun to get 75 points versus working hard on every posession to get a shot. When those hard earned shots were falling in the first half, I think it's fair to say "they were hot". The box scores by quarter were 17-16, 17-18, 6-9, 8-5, 7-6. Unfortunately, after all of their hard work, the Colonels lost their legs toward the end and missed their last 5 foul shots that should have sealed the game. Chevy took the air out of the ball with a 1 or 2 point lead in the last few minutes again, and that seemed to tighten the nerves a bit. A few missed put backs on offensive rebounds, combined with missed free throws sealed their fate. Another nice win for the Eagles. Another hard lesson for the Colonels that will hopefully make them stronger in the end.

Yes. I bought several 4th, 5th, and 6th row tickets via TicketMaster in December, albeit 2 and 3 at a time, but in seats behind each other in groups. I tried to buy them 4 or more at a time, but could not get good seats. The four lower sections ($25) on both sides foul line to foul line were pretty much sold out last week. Again, my hint is to try to buy 2 or 3 at a time in the same section and you might get lucky and get them right behind each other

You're memory is not as great as your sarcasm. I watched Scott's AAU team knock off the "great" Rockets in Lexington in the State AAU tournament. I believe the Rockets were a combination of St.Pius and Blessed Sacrament. These were all good players and teams. There is no reason to implicate that the public schools were either afraid to play the parochials, or that they did not measure up. I recall that several of the local teams played both AAU and Southwestern Ohio League. However, you probably don't remember most of them because Ralph had the Rockets play up, as did Fast Break with their blue chip recruits (aka Pat Elliot). As noted about previous 8th grade phenoms, it's a shame that the Rocket's best player, Brett Sutton, doesn't play anymore. He was the real deal. BGGreen... Do you know why the publics and parochials don't play each other in middle school? I don't get it, and I've always wondered why they aren't able to mix their schedules more like the Frosh.

Only three of the Scott players remain from the team you are referring to (Howard, McCord, Whitehead). Brann, Strunk, Feighery, Brossmore, Best are focusing on other sports. Busse, Muzzillo, Kanafax, and Spradlin are playing at other schools. Only two of the Dixie boys remain (Lawson and Cole). Keener and Groneman played for Summitview. Sawyer moved on. Gumble, Huber, Metzger, Kerdolff, Carter, and Strong are focusing on other sports.

Arkansas Brewer and his mates were soundly defeated by Dixie's frosh tonight. Stephen Pompelio played his normal game and looked much stronger than Ark. Matt Metzger also looked pretty good in comparison to Mr. Brewer.

The Dixie boys tried to go to the HHS/CCH game tonight. Some got in, some didn't (sold out). After standing around in the cold waiting to get in, they didn't feel much like driving out to Conner to arrive late and support the girls. Hmm, come to think of it, I've done the same thing. Being dissappointed about not getting in at CCH, I didn't trek out to Conner either. Instead, I'm sitting here thinking... "Wow, this really did hurt the girls tonight."

Today's Post recap of Grant's game with Lex Cath included the following: "Grant County struggled against a powerful Lexington Catholic offense without starting senior point guard Roger Blackburn who is out for the season with a tear of his ACL." This is a tough blow for Roger and his mates. Mr. Blackburn is a fine young man.
