  1. I agree. Even so, I thought TJ's anticipation in that play tonight should have been rewarded with at least a no call. We've seen a lot more blocking and "no calls" this year when you would expect to see a charge. I sometimes think it's because too many kids are flopping early instead of letting the contact knock them down. (not to suggest that TJ flopped in this case by any means... tonight's play was due to both kids moving in the same direction to the same spot simultaneously)
  2. That was a really tough call to make. TJ did not bite on the fake right, anticipated the move left and was moving in synch with his man. A toss up, but hard to let it go as a no call.
  3. That's the man. There were occasions tonight when three of four big men went up for a rebound, and Arez would simply rise above them and hang there for the tip in. Melvin would rize an hover like that... thus the nickname.
  4. I second your vote :thumb: There were quite a few outstanding individual plays by various contributers throughout the game. Edmondson hit some nice shots, Tierney made some incredible moves including a strong layup and 1 in the fourth, Avery gave some nice minutes while Jefferson was being tended to. Henderson reminds me of "The Helicopter" from UC a few years back. What was his name? Arrez has hops.
  5. Danny Noll turned his game up a notch in the second half. He needs to bring that same level of intensity to every game to give CovCath another dimension.
  6. Dixie vs Ludlow could be an unlucky first round draw for both teams.
  7. KHSAA.ORG is showing that they won't seed. Dixie isn't playing Ludlow or Villa in the regular season. KHSAA also shows the District being played at Dixie this year.
  8. Colonel Crazy, it dawns on me that I may be mistaken about your allegiance. Maybe we can figure it out with a few questions about the game. When the Dixie students were still talking during the pregame prayer were you thinking: A - Wow, that's really disrespectful; or B - it's a shame that public schools have abolished prayer from school because these kids are losing touch with an important part of our culture and heritage? When the Dixie students joined the CovCath choir to finish the National anthem were you thinking: A - How rude, don't they know this is a time to be serious; or B - hmmm, now that's an interesting way to make fun of the other guys in the spirit of the chants that have already taken place? When Groneman got hit in the eye while attempting a layup directly in front of the ref who had an unobstructed view were you thinking: A - What's he acting like he's hurt for... that was an inadvertent touch; or B - Wow, why doesn't the ref make a delayed call... he can obviously see that the kid's shot was affected by a severe poke in the eye? When Jacobs pleaded his case on a foul he didn't think he committed and after stretching his arms out in disgust he walked over, put his left arm completely around the shoulders of the ref in a tight embrace, and continued pleading his case as he gestured with his free right hand were you thinking: A - now this is really cool, our star player gets to act just like Kobe Bryant when he embraces the NBA refs; or B - dang, does he have to pat the ref on the head to get a T in this place? If you answered A for all four, you are a Colonel who probably agrees that old references to Lil Colonels means you get to be called the Big Colonels. If you answered B, then I will rethink my position and back off, because I might inadvertently be offending a fellow Dixie fan. If you don't know how you felt in these situations, then maybe you're an Oldham County Colonel and are merely kibitzing??? :jump:
  9. Not surprised at all to see you join the party. Come on aboard. I see where you're coming from now. This is kind of fun.
  10. Thanks for the constructive criticism, ColonelCrazy. We Dixie folks can use all the help we can get. I think you forgot to include my prediction: Much of this banter from me has been mimicing the manner in which the student sections chanted back and forth with nonsense from 6:30 through 9:00 Friday night. They set the standard for how to distract an audience from "the game". How much content of the student's cheers have to do with the game being played? A guy on the floor makes a great play, and the kids chant about girls, or frogs, or we can't hear you... whatever. The Title IX stuff started in other threads about CovCath playing Highlands on Friday last week, then again Friday this week against Dixie. I have taken it into a few new spins. It can go further and deeper. I apologize for saying "a can of worms" instead of "another can of worms", as my interest now lies with Mustang in another area that you obviously don't want to be bothered with. So, back to my original contribution...
  11. I agree about the GeoCities website, and as I said, we should start there. SK and Scott are not the concern when it comes to boosting or supporting prime time visibility for a boy's sport without similar balanced contributions or efforts being given to the same girl's sport. No reason to open a can of worms in this already unwieldy thread, so I'll send you a private note to solicit more of your experienced guidance. :sssh: Hopefully I am misinformed and can help get some positive things going for DIXIE PRIDE!!!
  12. OldGuy, please delete a few messages from your private box so I can reply. It's full :thumb:
  13. Nice win, Colonels! SK has been on quite a roll lately. This must have been a very good, high energy game. Any stats?
  14. Just havin' a bit of fun... a little carryover from the high decibel brain-washing by the student sections at the game :argue:
  15. I .... d o n ' t ..... k n o w , but I will ask Coach Chevy why he calls the elementary league he runs "the Little Colonels". I will report back to you. Should be interesting. I have read about Steve on the walls of our gymnasium lobby. Here is a website that others may want to refer to ... http://tannerfoundation.com/stevetanner.html. I respect where you are coming from. Having served in Viet Nam, I too would like a bit of respect. I feel as though you're talking down to me like I'm some little boy. Or, is that just the way all you Cov Cath folks treat Dixie boys???
  16. Thanks for the vote of confidence. In fact, I have the wherewithal and drive to pull it off. I wonder, though, about the time. Seems to me that, as a Booster type activity, I am obligated to comply with the rules of Title IX (seriously). How many girls games will I have to broadcast in order to ensure a fair balance? I realize that professional broadcasting firms are not subject to these laws, but organizations, supporters, boosters, et al who are directly affiliated with a specific coed school must comply by contributing equal dollars and benefit to both sides. I guess if I'm going to get this done prior to our Regional rematch with the Big Colonels, I'd better be prepared to do our girls game with NDA on the 24th (OldGuy wants to listen to the humiliating whoopin' we're going to take.) Hmmm, I guess the time issue really does come into play. I'm motivated to do the boys games, but I struggle with investing the same energy for the less entertaining girls games. Please, some of you critics who say this should be so easy, help me figure out how to circumvent this caveat. I don't think I'll be able to say that the guys on Bluegrasspreps told me it was okay to ignore the girls.
  17. I realize you're baiting me with sarcasm... but truth be told, as I was typing the sincere comment about maybe playing you again in March, I was struck by the thought that Dixie's chances of being in the Regional are at least as good, if not better, than Cov Cath's. I guess we got the bad end of the deal on Title IX, and you got it on the District pairings. Wow, I'm feeling much less oppressed now, which is a good thing because the bitter-beer face can cause cramps after a while.
  18. Sorry to rile you up, OldGuy. I'm not sure how I'm so "off base." Just because the nickname has been around since the 30's doesn't mean it isn't derogatory, especially when it is used in contrast to the "Big Colonels." Please help us "Lil" folks understand the true meaning of the term. My Grandpa used to use the term "boy" a lot. We had a dickens of a time convincing him that such derogatory terms can be offensive to some people, and as such, should be eliminated in our politically correct society Gee, this is fun. Just like the cheering sections going back and forth at each other with nonsense during the game :dancingpa Unfortunately, just like at the game, I'm afraid this lil ol' Dixie boy is going to be significantly outnumbered
  19. Coach Listerman is giving a great interview on Sports Rush right now.
  20. Not really. I'm allowed a sense of humor as well, even though I'm not all universe. But, thanks for always offering your opinion... 16,000+ times
  21. Danny Noll referenced the "Lil Colonels" and "Big Colonels" last night a few times during his interview on the webcast. First I'd ever heard of it. For those of us who didn't grow up in NKY (have you heard, it's a growing community ) it's sometimes hard to accept the local custom of derogatory name calling. But, no need to start another discussion like the recent "River Rats" chat. You're right, some of us Dixie fans should put more effort into circumventing the beuracracy of policies that Dixie's STLP governed, Kenton County School Board owned website is constrained by. Jumping all the way into broadcasting is a stretch. Maybe we should start with simple things like getting our schedule posted. Don't bother checking out our site, there is nothing there about basketball... nada, zilch. :irked: By the way, a lot of Dixie fans were also sincerely grateful that our boys were allowed to participate in a Friday night game this month. As you have heard several times on this forum lately, coeds don't have the priveledge of scheduling games whenever they want to. These cumulative discrepancies make for a good rivalry. Our Title IX repressed, no website, no broadcast, scholarship (oops, I mean enrollment territory) impaired, "Lil Peon" public schoolers who have no big men to pose an inside threat are really looking forward to playing you again. Who knows, maybe we'll see you in March
  22. It was nice to be able to listen to the game again on the web last night. CCH has a nice website, and the archives of their broadcasts are very cool. However, the CCH bias is way too thick. The broadcasters have nice energy and are very articulate, but they don't take much time learning the names of the opposing team. For example, they didn't even know how to say Muzzillo's name. Frequently they don't even bother to say who the Dixie player is... they simply say Dixie makes the shot, or Dixie gets the rebound. Bishop Brossart does a nice job with their website and broadcasts as well. But they are not so biased. I guess it parallels the cheering section's attitude. Cheers like "We are Awesome" and "You are Jealous" speak volumes. But, I still have to wonder why they get such a kick out of proclaiming "We are Gay" :creepy: All in all, you have to tip your hat to the Blue Colonels. They invest a lot of effort and pride into their sports programs. But, the pompousness leaves you wondering whether to love them or despise them. I guess that's what makes for good rivalries, eh? :thumb:
