  1. Dixie is in an awful shooting slump. They need to snap out of it this evening if they expect to stay with Gallatin's hot shooters.
  2. Congrats to the Pioneers. I now see why they are ranked #1 in NKY.
  3. On Bluegrasspreps, yes the threads have their share of negativity. But, the press in general does not. Slam, Sports Illustrated, etc still say the guy is a top recruit and they focus on his basketball skills and personal attributes. I'd like to think we can do the same here on Bluegrasspreps. Nate's a good kid and a good ball player. KHSAA is the judge who determines eligibility, and they have spoken. I guess I'm just an optimistic American who still believes in "innocent until proven guilty".
  4. Congrats to Nate for a successful debut. :thumb: Dixie plays in the Gallatin County tourney next week and a lot of fans have been hoping Nate would be eligible to play. He's fun to watch... and it will be good to see him competing again. I don't understand all the negativity about Nate's transfers. Mr. Mayo has transferred three times and USC doesn't have a problem with it. The NBA won't either. Why is it okay for a superstar, but not okay for a normal human being?
  5. Having played only 2 games, Dixie needs to develop confidence quickly. Their ball handling left a lot to be desired against Scott's traps. Do the Pioneers trap? Hopefully the Colonels will come out ready to play rather than taking three quarters to find their goove. Luke didn't get much time against the Eagles due to matchup problems. He'll get his minutes Monday night. The Hurd/Mace matchup should be worth the price of admission. I look for the Colonels to keep it close enough to make for an exciting finish, putting the first loss in SK's ledger. (I need a lexicon with crossed fingers indicating "hope/luck")
  6. If Dixie had not missed their first 6 or 7 free throws the hole they had to dig out of might not have been so deep. Eflin Tyler scored a lot of points in the 4th quarter, and Luke Mace put in the winning free throws. Scott's defense is absolutely tenacious. But, they might have used up their legs leading to a lower shooting percentage in the end. Another great game between the Colonels and Eagles. You can pretty much count on an exciting finish when these two play... which they will do again at Scott later this season.
  7. :sssh: They have to play Dixie before the 5/3rd.
  8. Pendleton County sure was loaded with talent the past few years.
  9. Belcher had 3 fouls and 0 points the first half, followed by 0 fouls and 15 pts in the second half. Rebounds were pretty even. Dixie had a very balanced effort... 4 scorers in double figures: Mace, Tyler, Kendall, and Shields.
  10. You might be surprised at how much he has improved. Coach Chevalier has added two excellent Assistants to his staff: Chad Fields who many know as an outstanding conditioning and weight trainer; and Rod Snapp who came from coaching in Indiana and knows how to teach the post. It should be an interesting matchup between Kane and Luke.
  11. Luke Mace is 6'8, and he will dunk. I've seen Dixie's scrimmages (Cincinnati Oak Hills and LaSalle), and I've seen Pendleton play Holmes. I think Dixie wins by 8. GO DIXIE!
  12. Congrats Ryle. You earned both victories the past two weeks. Dixie, it was a joy cheering for you this year. We have a lot to look forward to again next year. LuvThemRaiders... Why haven't you mentioned anything about the fellow who spoiled Dixie's entrance onto the field by running through our sign? Since you like to pick out previous posts and analyze them, I'm interested in hearing your criticism of this week's intentional act after you offered such a negative opinion about Dixie last week after their unintentional mistake.
  13. Today's Kentucky Post confirms that Duran's scholarship is being honored by UK... http://news.kypost.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20061031/SPT0402/610310325/1026/NEWS02 UK STILL WANTS JEFFERSON - The University of Kentucky football team will not withdraw its scholarship offer to Holmes senior quarterback Duran Jefferson, who broke a bone in his leg two weeks ago. Holmes coach David Trosper said UK recruiting coordinator Ron Caragher has already called Jefferson to confirm the scholarship offer will remain. "For something that's as minor as Duran's injury is they're pretty much going to stay with you," Trosper said. Jefferson broke the fibia bone in his ankle while playing quarterback for Holmes during a game against Boone County on Oct. 20. Trosper said doctors put a small screw in the bone to help it heal properly and Jefferson should recover from it in six to eight weeks. "Duran's very positive about it and anxious about getting into rehab and getting back for basketball season," Trosper said. Jefferson was the starting point guard on the Holmes boys' basketball team the last two years, but he accepted the football offer from UK last summer. At that time, Jefferson said UK didn't recruit him for a specific position, but the coaches talked about using him as a wide receiver, defensive back or punt returner.
  14. They obviously couldn't hear what was going on. The wind was blowing hard right into the press box. As soon as the kids realized it, they stopped and paid proper respect prior to getting to the sideline.
  15. I heard the same thing on the news this morning. The paper says his status for tomorrow's championship game will be decided today after school.
  16. Key sack in 4th quarter turns momentum in favor of the Breds. Deep in their own territory, Dixie quarterback Sam Lawson was sacked by 3 NCC tacklers, resulting in a fumble and an easy 3 point field goal for the Breds. The Colonels could not regroup. Their second half offense had produced enough points to even the score, but after the critical blitz by the NCC linebackers, the offense sputtered and Dixie could not connect on any more long bombs. Many thought the Vanolhofen rule should have been applied, as all three tacklers hit Lawson below the knee. NCC was only penalized 10 yards for the entire game despite their physical style of play. A 5th region official was quoted after the game: "We think it's more entertaining when we let the boys play." Congrats to Dixie for a strong finish this season. You have a lot to be proud of. Humor aside... congrats to the Breds. You came to play and you earned a strong victory.
  17. So, fans who want good seats for the second game will need to stand outside (in the rain?) to keep their spot in line instead of coming inside to watch the second half of a very good Dixie/NCC contest. Too bad. I wonder how many people will actually get up and leave during the 2nd half of the 1st game to get in line for the second? This arrangement has the potential of taking away from the atmosphere of the 1st game. Hopefully the Ryle coordinators will be kind enough to reserve some space for the Dixie/NCC players who may be delayed in their locker rooms but who will obviously want to watch the second game.
  18. Are those of us who attend the Dixie/NCC game going to be penalized by having to exit the building and go to the back of the line to wait to get back in? We should get to repay and go right back to our seats don't you think:confused:
  19. I think Ben Guidugli's quote in the KYPOST this week offers a different point of view... http://news.cincypost.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20060308/SPT01/603080369/-1/all Excerpt: "It can't get any better than that," Guidugli said. "We don't like them and they don't like us. What more can you ask for?" :fight:
  20. Holmes does not commit unforced turnovers. Dixie's defense caused a lot of problems for the Bulldogs. A highlight of the game was Groneman uncharacteristically missing 2 free throws, attacking the basket to get his own rebound, stealing it from a Holmes player (Jefferson I think) who had cleared the boards, and putting in the uncontested layup to atone for the missed free throws. Nick is quick... no doubt about it.
  21. Pretty good predictions for the first two games, Colfan.:thumb:
  22. Muzzillo and Groneman pulled down some big rebounds in the late scrambles under Holme's basket, resulting in immediate fouls by Holmes to stop the clock. They both hit some clutch free throws to capitalize on those critical rebounds.
  23. I thought Holmes failed to feed Edmondson and Hill in the 4th quarter. Nate was hotter than a pistol the 1st 3 quarters, but I don't think he touched the ball for the 1st 5 minutes of the 4th quarter. That frustrated him to the point that he forced bad shots when he did get the ball late. Austin posted his man on the blocks very well several times. The ball got to the corner on his side, but the pass was never made inside. Several times after the ball was reversed away from the post side, Austin would put his arms out in frustration and look over at the bench. He clearly wanted the ball but did not get fed.
