  1. Safe travels to all Mayfield fans making the long trek. Let’s hope for a clean, fair game. GO TIGERS!
  2. I too am shocked that there hasn’t been as much coverage on this. From what little but I have seen, I think everyone of those guys should go to jail.
  3. I cannot believe that I have a wedding to go to next week. Any chance the game will be televised? I will sneak an IPad in!
  4. Got my Covid booster last week and my flu shot today. I am going to guess yearly Covid vaccines will go along with yearly flu shots. Covid seems here to stay. I would be curious to know, how the current rate of Covid infections and deaths compare with a usual flu season.
  5. Chickenwyngs, have you seen these books? There are old photos from almost any local city, available in almost any bookstore. They make nice gifts. I love looking at them. As you can see, my dog particularly loved the Covington book.
  6. Spent a lot of time at the Ice Bowl and the Dixie Drive in back in the day. Good times!
  7. My in-laws grew up in Ft. Mitchell. They often talked about that street car. They and their friends used it to travel around NKY and loved it. I remember seeing some of the old tracks as a kid before they were paved over. I used to wish it was still around, but I guess bus transportation made it obsolete.
  8. Not a teacher, but I have several in my family. Personally, I think most of it stems from absent/bad parenting. When I was a kid, if you got into trouble at school, you were in twice as much trouble at home. Today too many kids grow up with no discipline and have no consequences for their actions. Even kids from “good homes” often have parents who believe their kids do nothing wrong, and will defend them when they get into trouble at school. Teachers need to feel supported by parents and I don’t think that happens enough anymore.
  9. So, I know you are dying to know how the brisket competition went…..and the winner by a close margin was ME! Mine ( courtesy of CWB) is the top and the mister’s is below. Truth be told, all the food was great. Hats off to Colonels_Wear_Blue! His recipe was delicious and I already froze the leftover broth for soup!
  10. After suffering for years in the height of beanie baby and transformer toys when my kids were little, I swore I would never eat there after they were grown. I was a liar. Those fries are good! I will say that I like Steak and Shake fries better, but McDonalds is easier to get to.
  11. CWB, your Italian Brisket sounds like a winner, minus anchovies.
  12. And, he gets the oven, I get the crock pot, but would like to see a variety of recipes.
  13. Bought a big brisket on sale. The mister usually smokes it in the Big Green Egg. I get tired of The smokey flavor. Anybody have any good brisket recipes that are not smokey? I should add that the mister and I are going to cut it in half and cook our own recipe. May the best cook win and I want it to be me!
  14. This question is coming from someone ignorant about guns. How do live rounds get into a gun intended for use on a movie set? Even if it is a real gun, how hard is it to make sure there are no bullets in it and no one puts any in it? If I am reading correctly, there were two rounds discharged the day before. How does this happen?
  15. Sounds cruel, but I am glad he is gone. Saves the taxpayers a lot of money.
  16. Yes, that is what I have been told. Very sad all around. Can you blame wealthier and/or more involved parents for getting their children into magnet or private schools? That leaves the more disadvantaged kids even more behind which is also wrong. As I said before, I would be a magnet/private school parent. As an experienced teacher, do you have any ideas?
  17. Agree with all of the above. I was also upset when the press seemed to criticize the officers who intervened when there was a domestic dispute between the couple. I really think those officers tried to give Gabby a way out, but she declined any help. Those officers do not have a crystal ball. They might have been concerned that things would escalate but can only do so much. i definitely think his family knows more than they are saying. I interview abused women often in my line of work, but can never understand why any man/woman would stay in that situation. I am very thankful to have been raised by a very strong mother who taught her girls to not take any guff from anybody.
  18. Didn’t mean to repeat the above. I did want to say that one of my close relatives initially taught at a private wealthier school where the patents drove her nuts with endless petty complaints/requests. They were quite entitled, and Catholic school teachers do not make much money. She left for a poor public school district. There, few parents took any interest in their children. Many kids were from broken homes and many parents had drug or alcohol problems. Discipline for the kids meant nothing and she was often afraid to walk to her car alone. She recently started in a poor Catholic school and loves it. The families are poor but do whatever they can for the children. Some of the kids don’t even have much of a Christmas, but the parents are present and as involved as they can be. As above, I am not saying I have the answer, but I do wonder about the effect the home situation affects under performing schools.
  19. I struggle with the answer here. As a parent, I have and would again take any advantage I could for my kids. I also know that lower performing schools in poor districts face a multitude of problems. Years ago the SEEK program was supposed to more evenly distribute money among schools, but that is not enough. Not a teacher myself, but I have a few teachers in my family. The socio-economic problems are so complex that I have no idea how to fix the problems with the public school systems.
  20. CWB, I cannot imagine that Cov. Cath. would ever change its mascot, nor do I think the school should. I am curious to see if the subject has come up or if there has been any pressure to do so.
  21. I can’t stand SAS. I find him to be loud and obnoxious.
  22. Years ago, I saw one one starting to crawl behind a large picture hanging beside a window. I peeked behind the picture and the entire back of the picture was covered with them. I sucked them all up in the vacuum. We have since replaced all of our windows which greatly decreased both stink bugs and wasps getting in, which had also been a problem. Now which I find one I flush it.
