Cody Perkins threw well for Williamsburg and it was tied at 1 going into the bottom of the 6th. Whitley put up a 5 spot as they put the ball in play and Wiliamsburg made several errors to help Whitley along. Kind of a shame as Perkins pitched well and kept Whitley off balance. Williamsburg had their chances but left way too many on base. It was curious to see Williamsburg attempt sacrifice bunts with runners on 1st and one out already on the board. Seems your per centages go way down trying to score from 2nd with 2 outs instead of 1. I could understand a hit and run maybe, but a sacrifice in that situation??

I expect Williamsburg may have to throw Johnny Wholestaff at Whitley (lol). I would guess Perkins would possibly start then who knows from there. I expect Barton will pitch Thursday's game in the All A.

Who pitched for each team?

Being a Williamsburg fan I was dissappointed with the outcome. Let me say this however, I was very impressed with Whitley. Leddington seems to have them going in the right direction. They played fundamentally sound, and he was very aggresive in the running game. They preyed well on Williamsburg's weaknesses and seemed very well prepared. To say he is not getting the job done, or is rubbing people the wrong way is fairly ridiculous, all I heard were positive comments from the parents on the Whitley side. I'll also add that I saw much more discipline out of Whitley than in the past.

From Williamsburg Tyler Rollins and Ed Lawson - University of the Cumberlands Aaron Brock, I've heard, is invited to walk on at UK.

In school there and will be back with football in the fall.

I agree wholeheartedly with most if not all of your post. People will put the ball in play against Williamsburg and if the error fest of recent years continues (as it did in the NL scrimmage) it may be a long year. To be honest I think the LL system is just plain bad. I would love to see it disbanded and have a regional league of Corbin, Laurel, and Williamsburg governed by USSSA or AABC. It would help greatly getting kids more prepared for middle and HS. Barton is a nice talent, but needs room and patience to grow. If allowed to grow and to play within himself he will have a very nice career. Just also not sure the talent is utilized properly as several seem to be out of position, and it seems senority sometimes comes into play more than talent. Sorry just a big believer that your best 9 play no matter what, and I think its debatable that this is the case. If i were to pick it today I would say South wins the district with Corbin a close 2nd, Whitley 3rd, and unfortunately the Jackets in 4th.

Football..University of the Cumberlands

I understand Cody Jones is out with an ACL injury. Williamsburg will have to vastly improve on fundamentals, fielding, and hitting to challenge in the district this year. I'm a huge Williamsburg follower, but I'm also a realist. I just don't think they have the pitching to cover these other weaknesses, as I thought was aptly displayed in their scrimmage with North Laurel tonight. It's difficult for me to understand why they seemingly have the same problems each year. The last group that was fairly sound fundamentally was the year Andy Greer was a senior, and had solid pitching from Reynolds, Foley, and Jones, outstanding defensive catching from Root, and a pretty solid infield and outfield. That group was also pretty good offensively and very unselfish. Is it due to the little league programs diminishing? Is it just a cycle? Is it coaching? Maybe all of the above, I really don't know. I hope I'm wrong about this season's team and they improve by leaps and bounds. Moses does have an outstanding bat and is as sound fundamentally as any kid I've seen there, and Barton has alot of talent that should be developed. Any way I've rambled, best of luck on the season.

In March, April, May.... always a shame when it ends, and great when it starts again...dang can't wait for summer practice!!!

After watching Williamsburg's spring game last night I was pretty impressed. Really liked some of the new wrinkles. Thought the o-line came off the ball well and looked good in pass pro and blitz pick up. I was also impressed with the physical nature of these kids, some really hard licks out there last night. Moses looked very polished, as you would expect. Lowery, Wagers, and Barton all had some nice runs. Collins, Root, and King looked very good up front. The young db's also got after it. All in all a very good night.

Actually from the bit I've seen they may actually, as a unit, be improved. They front of King, Perkins, and Collins should be very solid. The speed of the linebackers will be better. Root appears to be very solid reading and comes forward well, he's not as fast as his older brother Aaron was but he doesn't care to stick his nose in there. Wagers is quick and will add speed. Barton can drop in coverage and also will flow from sideline to sideline. Travis Thomas and Aaron Mack will battle for the other outside spot as will Petit. Barton is also playing at strong safety and Williams looks pretty good at free. Dusty Brown will be solid at one corner and Lowery at the other. I think one will see a little more emphasis on defense this year and as a unit alot of improvement.

Didn't those families move to Williamsburg? I could be wrong but I thought they did. If that was the case then they would be Williamsburg kids.

No it is officially week 0, it has to do with open dates, or at least that was how it was explained to me.

From what I understand that was the only availability for week 0. I'm pretty sure Coach Herron wouldn't duck anyone, especially McCreary. I'm pretty sure South and Hazard are major upgrades in comparrison with McCreary. I have a hard time understanding why a school several time larger than Williamsburg has this fixation on playing them. I haven't been around but about 10 or so years, but correct me if wrong, during that time I have never seen McCreary beat Williamsburg. Close a few times but never a win. Is Williamsburg the measuring stick for a 5A program?. . . I would think they would want bigger fish to fry. Just my observation which may not count for much.

Nice schedule additions of Hazard and South Laurel. If Williamsburg does surprise and win the district again that would be 3 in a row. I only mention this because I wonder if that is something that has ever been accomplished by the Burg. I think it also shows what a wonderful job this coaching staff does with limited talent and numbers. It is also a testament that players buy into Coach Herron's love of "wearing the orange" and taking immense pride in that.

Congratulations to both young men. Its great to see them continue their carees alongside some other former Jacket greats at UC. Any word on Aaron Brock or Jordan Hughlett? I have heard they will also have opportunities to continue playing at the college level.

There have been some nice surprises in the o-line this spring. Jeremy Collins appears solid at center after a nice jr. campaign. Andrew Root is looking good at right guard and can also play some at center if needed. Jordan King apperars to have the inside track at right tackle and is showing improvement daily, and Cody Perkins looks to be solid at left tackle. Left guard is a bit of a mystery, but if someone steps up there the Jackets should have a solid line. The biggest concern with the Jackets will be depth. If they can stay healthy they should challenge for another district championship.

Williamsburg will be fine next year. They will miss this senior class, dont get me wrong, but they have some good kids coming up through the ranks and I dont care what anyone says, this coaching staff does a remarkable job getting these kids motivated to play their hearts out.

Williamsburg should take the attitude of no pressure in this one. No one really expects them to win, so they should treat this game as we have nothing to lose. Hayden is an excellent back, but Williamsburg has had some success this season against some very good backs. You cant compare last years game to this year either...both teams are different than a year ago. Comparing scores is silly as well, each week is different, each game is its own entity. I wont predict a score but I will predict an exciting game, and I think the score is a lot closer than most on here.

If it happens that these two play I would have to go with Ft. Campbell, too much speed.

Will the Campers be at full strength?

Pineville is struggling bad. Last Friday I think Williamsburg could have hung 80 on them if Coach Herron hadn't called off the dogs. Paintsville by 30 at least.
