That's irresponsble of you to suggest that if you don't have first hand info. Why try and disparage a guy's name if you don't have the facts and just "heard" something. McCreary Central's a tough job, no one has had success, and no one likely will.

Is the QB from last year definately not going to be back?

I don't see that happening for two reasons. 1) Experience is often more important than pure talent, and being the only Sr, they'll need his on the floor leadership. 2) He plays hard with great effort. That's MORE important than pure talent. Hamlin will start and play a lot of minutes.

I'm glad South Laurel fans are so accepting of this choice. The show of unity is a great thing. But honestly, I'm very surprised that SL couldn't/didn't hire a coach that had had some more past success. Maybe I'm wrong, but I see the SL job as a plum job. London is a nice growing city that sits on the interstate, so Lexington is very accessable. SL has had success and plays in a weak district and the weakest 4A region. And the quality of the school system is very good. I just don't understand the hire. While Chappel runs the offense that SL likes, he has had very little on the field success. With that said, I wish him well.

I say good luck to the kids whereever they choose to play. I'm for kids getting a chance to compete and have fun, whether it's for or against my team - that's fine. I rather lose a player to transfer so that he can get some PT, than the same player stay on my team have a limited role and be unhappy. You only get to be in HS once so why not make the most of it.

I find it odd that a Corbin fan is wondering how transfers will affect the Native Whitley kids. I'd respond with two statements. 1) Transfers are a part of the game, happens all the time at all schools. I don't think 2 kids coming in will have an impact on anybody's feelings. 2) If there is an impact, Corbin should have insight. Because they've had more Basketball transfers in the past decade than anybody in the area.

One flaw in your reasoning, (assuming your numbers are correct) is that those are the odds for ANY set of combinations.

You do have the Gentry story down pat. I don't think anyone believes it but you. Bottom line, he mislead many as to his intentions. Period. I don't have a problem with him doing what is good for his family. In that case, he should have been forthright and said that he was leaving, and then dealt with whatever consequences there were. But he didn't. He hung on to his paycheck til the end, then had a sudden change of heart. The saying is that money talks and BS walks, and the money did talk and now the BS is headed out the door and walking to GA.

He is 100% gone. Second, sometimes doing the right thing is hard. He took the easy way out. In this case, he asked the kids to make a commitment to the program. He asked that they devote more of their time. He told them they were either in or out. When they asked him over the last weeks, he repeatedly said he was staying. He could have made his intentions known right after spring practice, but elected not to do so. So he not only did the dishonorable thing, he did it at the wrong time. When hired he made a commitment for AT LEAST the following year. What are you telling others of faith if you say one thing and do another, what are you teaching your kids when you don't follow through on commitments. What are you saying to future employers when you don't do the job you were hired to do. The problem with Coach Gentry is that he apparantly has no loyalties. Again Harsh but it's the truth.

Georgia won't know what they are getting, because they've been fed a line by his brother in law buddy. Gentry is an exceptional coach, just not much of a person. Not a good combination for a guy who's expected to help shape impressionable young high school kids. The biggest thing they'll learn about if they watch Gentry closely is how to say one thing and do another, how to be decitful, how to make decisions based soley on yourself with no regard for others that it may impact, how to twist the truth about those decisions so much that even you don't know what the truth is any more, and finally - how to show zero loyalty to those who put faith in you. I once thought that I would like my son to play for Gentry, now I know that if Gentry were the head coach at the school my son was at - I'd move - Fast! And lastly, apparantly Gentry doesn't just burn bridges, he nukes them! Gentry has a scortched earth policy - leave nothing behind when you leave. All of this may be harsh but, THAT'S THE TRUTH!!!!

As is the case most of the time, many of you have the facts incorrect. Here is the Truth. The truth is that Gentry is gone, but it's to Ga with his brother in law, not brother in Alabama. But currently, there is no for sale sign in his yard. The truth is that Whitley is not a top 15% job in the state. Maybe upper 1/3 at best. The truth is why get rid of Campbell then hire one of his long time assistants. It doesn't make sense. Ysidro's entire coching career has been under Campbell - so I don't see that happening. If Cotton were to get the job (which I don't see happening either), it would be for a year to stabalize while they looked elsewhere. The truth is that Clark Teague wouldn't be offered an ASSISTANT'S job much less the head coach. His stats at Adair (a bottom 15% school) have already been documents. And the Truth is that the Whitley program will be fine in the long run, however there will likely be a bump in the road this year.

Gentry is like those chocolates you give on valentines day. On the surface he looked good, really appealing. But take a bite and you're dissappointed with what you get on the inside. (he's like that white fluff that noone likes). The program will be far better off in the long run that he is gone. Maybe this upcoming year there will be a bump, but in the long run the program will be just fine. I think it would be a great mistake to limit the search to just assistants who are there now. Why not go after an assistant at a program that has had great success, ala a guy like Dale Anderson from Southwestern several years ago. While WHitley may not be a plum job in the state, it is a good job that many assistants would jump at.

I heard today that Glen Glay who won 26 games in his first year at Clay County resigned after only one season. Does anyone know why?

He's told some he's staying. He's told some he's leaving. He's said so many things, that I'm not sure he knows what he's doing. I do hope he stays, he's a good coach. He got his team excited in a very short time. But if he intends on staying - he needs to start acting like it. If not, I wish him well. Whitley will be fine either way.

The Truth is that Coach Gentry has handled the entire situation poorly. He should have been a man and stood up and stated his intentions. He has had plenty of opportunity to do so. The Truth is also that Coach Campbell will never again coach at Whitley County. He did a great job, but that horse has left the barn. There's no getting it back in. The Truth is also that Whitley's program will be fine. Lots of kids, lots of support. Maybe they take a small step backward this year - but in the long run they will be okay.

Move on. Get over it. There's a new sheriff in town and he deserves his own deputies. If he wants to hold over some of the old coaches, that's great. If not, it should be his choice. Campbell was allowed to get ths assistants he wanted, the new coach should have the same opportunity. jugde one you need to get over the jabs at the new staff. If you can't be a Red Storm supporter any longer, that's too bad. You're the one who will miss out. There's been NO ONE on here who has said anything negative about the former coach, I don't understand why you need to keep taking swipes at the new one. It just seems petty and small. Move on.

Don't try and twist what I say. How you could suggest that I sayd that Campbell didn't want people to play is crazy. Why does everything have to be so confrontational. I read your post. They always seem to have 45 or so left on the roster after the end of the year, so that's nothing new this year. But only about 35 of those seem to play the next year (I'm not sure what happens to the others), add in 20 8th graders and you get the 55 they've been having. Again, I would ask the question - why do they have so many out now? It just seems strange, when you think that they normally only have 50 or so on the team. If they can keep them out this year, good for them.

WOW. If they do indeed have 67 lifting weights, that would be phenominal considering that the last few years they've been fortunate to have 50 on the team. I wonder why there are so many as compared to the number that were on last year's team. Starting the year with close to 70 kids would be a very positive sign for the new coach and the Red Storm program.

Ky Wes dropped out of the NAIA this season, they announced that ALL programs will now play NCAA DII ball. I would respectfully disagree that NAIA is more like DIII than DII. DIII offers no athletic scholies, NAIA offers close the the DII limit. I'd say that NAIA and DII are comparable with DII a slight bit better.
