This time of year, the void I feel with Birdsfan's passing weighs heavily as I know it does with many of you. Since the first time I met him he was such a source of inspiration and motivation to me. Such a true and awe inspiring friend. Christmas and New Year just isn't the same without him, we would talk pretty much daily but more so this time of year because I'm always off work until after the New Year. He would always plan The Annual BGP New Year's Eve Cyber-Party and really enjoyed participating and having a ball with all of you that would join in. This year just seems so empty without him, his wit, his kindness, his spirituality. I'm not trying to depress anyone and certainly hope I'm not bringing anyone down, I just miss my friend. I think it would be nice if you all could post some fond memories of BF, jokes you shared with him, pictures (squirrels included), songs, anything you want in remembrance of of Birdsfan throughout the remainder of the year or even into the next. What do you all think? I wish I would have thought to post this a week ago, but better late than never. I will start with a picture BF's brother took of his grave on Christmas, I'm sure he won't mind me sharing since he knows how much all you all meant to him.

LexCath has a really good QB and Ogbogu is a heck of a receiver! Congrats to the Knights on a great season. Great job, Birds! Now it's off to BG to face either Owensboro or North Oldham. Bring back state for Northern Kentucky and your greatest fan who I know is looking down and smiling on you guys, Birdsfan!

It breaks my heart to tell you all, I received a call from Dave's brother about a half an hour ago telling me Dave passed away. Thank you all for the wonderful thoughts and prayers. We all were truly blessed for knowing him, either in person or on the board. God bless you all and God bless my dear friend Dave (Birdsfan) Lehkamp.

Stopped by to visit Dave this evening. No change really to speak of with the exception of one thing. As I was getting ready to leave, I grabbed his hand to tell him I'd see him later and his mom said again as she did earlier "Dave, John's here". I said " ah heck, he liked to call me by my last name a lot", so I said my last name to him about twice and he slowly began to open his eyes and then kept them open! He kept them open for a few minutes, blinking occasionally. I'd like to think he heard me and was trying to let me know he heard me, and until someone can prove otherwise that is what I believe in my heart. Keep praying folks!

I visited Dave last night, I sat with him and held his hand and talked to him. I know the above post states that the doctor doesn't think he comprehends what we are saying, I refuse to believe that. I told him of the wonderful outpouring of love and support from all of you here on BGP, I just believe in my heart that he hears that. I didn't get any response as I spoke to him, he didn't open his eyes while I was there or squeeze my hand, however he did give both my wife and my daughter a little squeeze of the hand once while they talked to him. Well of course, like we didn't know Dave is a ladies man! I am so thankful to all of you for your continued prayers and support, please keep the prayers coming as they are so desperately needed. Also, please pray for Dave's parents and brothers, this is so very hard on them as they love Dave so much. It just breaks my heart seeing them hurting like this, they are strong and dealing with it as best they can but they need our love, support and prayers too.

From Dave's brother on Facebook last night: Hello everyone. We just met with Dr. Li, David's neurologist. You can imagine how nervous and shaky the family was. She did not paint a portrait. Nor did she paint doom & gloom. Rather, through all of your prayers, she gave us hope. She was honest. She stated the EEG did not look good. However David is suffering small seizures near the front of the brain most likely caused by oxygen deprivation. As a result, the seizures can muddy the EEG results leaving them inconclusive. Goods news. David responded to pain and continues to open his eyes despite just staring. She immediately began medication for the seizures and hopes we will begin seeing David moving his hands and arms in the next day or two. I asked, if in her opinion, whether or not she believed David is comprehending what we are saying. She doesn't believe so. A second, and more intensive EEG is scheduled for Monday. Regardless, I am going to continue to read your thoughts to David. Even if David is not comprehending them yet, I do know they have been wonderful comfort to my parents. It is so hard to believe that so many of you take time to respond and pray. Thank you again to each and everyone of you.

I posted this in the other thread as well and I hope BF's family is okay with me posting it here, but since so much has been posted over from FB, I imagine it's alright. The latest post from BF's brother: Again thank all of you ever soooooo much for everything. I wanted everyone to know as of 8:15PM Dave's eyes began opening and stayed open for around 10 minutes. I wiped a couple of tears from his eyes as well. Not wanting to read much into this but I am. I have to. I also wanted to correct something posted yesterday. The heart specialist that saw David this morning stated Dave did not suffer a heart attach per se. Rather the heart specialist felt the pneumonia in the lung caused the heart to fail. He says there is a difference. Makes you wonder why in the world Christ Hospital discharge him the day before despite Dave complaining of pain in his side and shortness of breath. You now see why prayer is the answer. Again thank you all.

God of all creation, you who spoke a simple command and brought forth light from the darkness, I ask you now to send forth your miracle-working power to heal Dave. You cleansed the lepers, opened the eyes of the blind and by speaking a simple command, you empowered the crippled to rise up and walk. You sent forth your life-giving power to all those in need, including those you raised from the dead. I ask you to send forth your healing power into their body and give them the strength to fight their illness. I ask this through my Lord, Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

BGP has always been home for Birdsfan and after all the outpouring of love, prayers and well wishes for our dear friend, it's no wonder why he loves this site so much. I know in my heart he hears and feels all the wonderful things you all have been saying, so I just want to say thank you to each and every one of you for him. The guy has been my best friend for years and I have never know a stronger yet more compassionate human being than him in my life. I love him like a brother and pray the good Lord will pull him through this. God bless.
