  1. I think that Louisville Male scrimmaged Franklin (TN) in Bowling Green this morning. Any word on this scrimmage?
  2. Guru, I know that you wanted to defer the commentary about HHS to the Highlands faithful, but I am VERY interested in hearing what you thought of their scrimmage performance. You've always been pretty much a straight-shooter when it comes to your insights about Highlands' performance.
  3. Who has scored the TDs for HHS? PS Thanks for the updates!
  4. Are you there at the game with your computer, or are you calling someone for updates? If you are there, GIVE ME DETAILS MAN!!! Heck, you can PM them to me if you don't want them public!!!!
  5. Hey BF, do you know any details about the scoring so far?
  6. Does this True kid play for Highlands? Let's hear about him.
  7. As LN explained earlier, this scrimmage is not handled as a real game-like situation. Having said that, let's not forget that in 2005 Highlands and Beechwood "tied" their scrimmage 2-2 (in a 10 and 10 format). So, there is a recent example of this match-up being competitive.
  8. Will this scrimmage be carried live on internet audio broadcast???? Just kidding! I do hope that those BGP'ers who attend will be able to share their insights about the scrimmage. Also, for those in attendance, don't feel the need to wait until Saturday morning to give us some details... go on ahead and fire up the computer this evening after you return from the scrimmage!!!!!!! We'll be waiting...
  9. I was actually about to mention this game. CovCath has traditionally played well against the large Cincy schools... it will be interesting to see how they do against a first-rate Ohio opponent that is not an Ohio Division I (large) school. I will say that for the recent past, many people considered Mooney to be at the very top of the state in football, regardless of school size classification. If this game is a close one and/or CovCath wins, then it will be a very auspicious sign for the Colonels in 2008! However, If Mooney wins in a blow-out it doesn't necessarily predict a bad year for CovCath... it could be that Mooney is just really, really good this year. I'd say that for most years here recently, Mooney would handily beat about all (maybe not all, but most all) teams from Kentucky. It should be interesting. One complicating factor for this game is that, while it's the first for CovCath, I believe it will be the second game for Mooney.
  10. I saw the picture of Tony Guidugli in the most recent Inside Fort Thomas. Has he really beefed up since last season? In the DVD clips I've seen of Tony G. in last season's games, his arms didn't look nearly as big as they do in this recent picture!
  11. Well, regardless of how Highlands' fans regard the outcome of this scrimmage after the fact, the recent history shows that when HHS does well (and "wins") this HHS-Male scrimmage the Bluebirds have gone on to win state. In 2004 HHS beat Male in the scrimmage, as they did in 2007. This wasn't the case in 2005 and 2006.
  12. Keep in mind, in order for this scenario to play out both teams will need to stay in the same class for years to come. With HHS technically a 3A school playing up 2 classes and CCH a 4A school playing up 1 class I wonder how long these two will be able to stay together. I heard some talk on BGP awhile back that in the future the KHSAA may not allow programs to play up. Also, I would venture to guess that LexCath might continue to grow in size and thus move up to the same class with HHS and CCH. If such a scenario occurred then this class would definitely be at least a three-horse race. Keep in mind that over the past several years HHS and CCH have NOT been the best two teams in the class each year. In 2001 it was probably Boyle County and Hopkinsville. In 2002 it was probably Boyle County and Hopkinsville. In 2003 it was probably Boyle County and either HHS or PT. In 2004 it was probably HHS and Boyle County. In 2005 it was probably LexCath and CCH. In 2006 it was probably CCH and LexCath. In 2007 it was probably HHS and BG. I think that in old 4A/new 6A, it almost always comes down to Trinity, Saint X and Male being the best in class, and the recent trend certainly points to it being more of a two-horse race between T and X than a true three-horse race. Of course I am biased, but I always think it's so much more interesting when HHS and CCH are battling it out for class supremacy compared to times when it's either HHS or CCH fighting a non-NKY program for best in old 3A/new 5A (or God forbid two non-NKY teams hashing it out)!!! Those years early in this decade were some dark times!!!! Ha!
  13. A program doesn't make it to three consecutive state title games for nothing. I wouldn't bet against BG making it to Louisville just yet.
  14. Also, are we talking about top 10 right now or top 10 by the end of the year? If it's top 10 as of right now, I think the top 4 should be: 1. Saint X 2. Trinity 3. Highlands 4. CovCath By the end of the season I wouldn't be surprised if it's Trinity at no.1.
  15. Great job with the rankings! I'm sure it took a lot of time and effort to rank every team in KY. I have no doubt that the BGP preseason rankings are going to be the most legitimate preseason rankings for KY prep football. Is there any way that some of the BGP "pollsters" could make a few comments about how they decided between the top few teams in each class? I am so curious to hear why BGP decided to put Highlands at 1 and CovCath at 2 in 5A, or why they put Saint X over Trinity in 6A. Just something to consider...
  16. Well, 5A might just be "down" some from 2007. It will be a tall order for Highlands to equal the program's success from 2007. BG lost a ton of D-I talent and experience. Owensboro lost a lot to graduation. Lincoln County lost a great coach. Johnson Central lost (probably) their best player to graduation. While programs like Christian County, Letcher County Central and CovCath may be better than their 2007 versions, I'd say that the safer bet would be that 5A in 2008 is not as strong at the top as 5A in 2007. We'll see, though. And as for CovCath not deserving a top-two ranking, why not? Consider all the teams currently in 5A. Since Boyle County is in 4A and not 5A, this class of football has pretty much been dominated by HHS and CCH when it comes to winning titles, not to mention that CovCath is only ONE YEAR REMOVED from a state trophy. Add to this that there has (finally) been some off-season continuity to the coaching staff, plus a solid returning QB and very good line play, and it all adds up to Highlands and CovCath battling it out for 5A supremacy. Who knows, perhaps John Hardin will have a break-out season and win it all, or maybe BG will take that one final step that will mean a 5A title instead of being runner-up. But if I had to bet right now, I'd put my money on HHS and CCH. But the great thing is that soon enough we will all see how this shakes out.
  17. Congrats to Trinity! I know a lot of people here on BGP don't give a lick about these mythical national rankings (and for understandable reasons) but come on, it is a big deal. Many people here talk about the lack of respect given to KY prep football from other states (notably Ohio)... well, in order to do something about that our state's best programs need to get this kind of national attention and make good on it. Also, congrats to Trinity for taking on Cincy Saint X! Another good game between these two (just like last year) or heck, even a win (which is certainly a possibility) will most definitely earn some respect for this state.
  18. While I agree that 14 is very high, I do think that Highlands should at least be considered in the top 100, and not the top 150.
  19. Your link goes to the final rankings for last year.
  20. I've been following it and I included it (the part about HHS) in my HHS weblog. It seems that Trinity will end up being ranked very high in this poll.
  21. I'm curious to see how the west shakes out in 5A this year. BG has been so dominant for the past three years, but they have lost a lot of talent to graduation. Owensboro did so well last year, but I don't hear too much talk about them being the best in the west this year. JH sounds like they will do well. I don't get a good sense of how Christian County or Hopkinsville will do in 2008. It should be interesting.
  22. I think it's very likely that HHS enters the postseason 9-1. But CovCath will have something to say about HHS going 14-1 overall, I suspect. Oh, and by the way, Nicknack1056 probably needs to lay off the sauce for a few weeks, if he's making the comment that he doesn't see "CovCath being any matchup at all." Hmmmmm..... sure. PS I do hope Nicknack is right, though. Whenever I need a pick-me-up, I pop in my HHS football highlights DVD and watch the clip from the HHS-CCH 40-0 playoff game... that always puts a smile on my face!
  23. I'm curious... what do you mean by "a little different this year?" Do you mean different from the final rankings from last year, or different from what most people would predict for this year... what? I think I'll have to see this to believe it... come on... who are we kidding... is there ANY chance that Trinity and Saint X won't be ranked as the top 2 in the preseason BGP 6A poll? Any chance that Highlands, CovCath, JH and BG won't be the top 4 in 5A? Any chance that LexCath won't be ranked number 1 in 4A? etc... Of course it's going to be the "usual suspects!" If BGP really wants to stir the pot and get people talking, perhaps they can rank Holmes number 1 in 5A or Tates Creek number 1 in 6A. That would be something!
  24. Well, I'll say this... If BGP does a preseason statewide football ranking, I'd bet that the top three teams listed in that ranking would be (in no particular order) Saint X, Highlands and Trinity, which also happens to be the top three teams ranked in the CalPreps poll.
  25. I think there is a VERY real (and perhaps expected) possibility of Trinity going 14-1 this year, with the loss coming to Cincy Saint Xavier. Heck, with Cincy Saint X losing so much talent to graduation and with how solid Trinity's defense will be this year, I wonder if a "W" against the Bombers is in the cards???! Personally, I'm hoping for about a 5 or 6-loss season for the Rocks (does that make me evil?????)! Ha Ha!
