  2. Keep in mind that there are different kinds of fractures, such as hairline, spiral, etc., and the prognosis is different depending on what kind of fracture it is (and where it occurred on the bone). If the team doctor is saying that he thinks Conner will be back in 4-5 weeks (as opposed to 6 weeks or more), it must be that the fracture is not so severe. We'll all see, I guess.
  3. Just as they did in 2007, these two programs will face off in week one of the regular season. The game will be at Highlands. Ryle is Class 6A and Highlands is Class 5A. Last year, HHS won the game in convincing fashion, beating the Raiders 49-21. How will the 'Birds handle the recent loss of star running back Josh Conner? I say that this game is close for the first half or so, with HHS winning by 2-3 touchdowns in the end.
  4. Well, thank God it's not worse than that! If he's back fully healed in 4-6 weeks and ready for the second half of the season I'll take it.
  5. Well, regardless of who did/didn't play for Cincy Saint X, Highlands is going to have its hands all sorts of full against the Cardinals in two weeks. One possible plus for HHS vis a vis Colerain is that Colerain starts the year with two HUGE games (the game against Saint X last night and next week's Herbie game). If they win next week (which they probably will) I wonder if there will be a bit of a letting up in their focus during the week they prepare for HHS. Possible, but probably doubtful! Plus, there could always be an unexpected jock itch outbreak among the Cardinals in a couple weeks!!!!!!! j/k
  6. I'm reassured to read LN's post. These HHS players didn't experience any setbacks last year, as they went 2-0 in the preseason, 15-0 in the regular/postseason and did not have to deal with any significant injuries last year. Hopefully the feeling of losing a game (even though it was just a scrimmage) and being without the team's go-to player for at least awhile will quickly get all the players'/coaches' attention and progress will be made quickly. Crawford and Head are really going to need to step up in the offensive backfield this year, and now more than ever HHS will need a reliable passing game to go along with the rushing attack... it's time for Guidugli and Bardo to really get down to the business of leading the offense. I am sure they can handle it! Here's to Conner having a speedy and complete recovery within the next few weeks! HHS will need to make lemonade out of lemons and turn this into a plus... for one, I wouldn't mind at all having TWO experienced, first-rate, battle-tested RB's (Conner and Crawford) come playoff time, instead of just one!!!!! And now, I am going to resume banging my head against a wall! Gosh, even though it is "just" a scrimmage, I do HATE it when the Highlands football team finishes ANYTHING (championship game, season opener, preseason scrimmage, 7 on 7 passing contest, back yard touch football game, whatever!) with fewer points on the board than their opponent! And I KNOW that the players/coaches feel this 3 times as much as I do!! Get to work boys!
  7. 52-0?!?!?!? With this score, plus the lopsided score of Saint X-Henry Clay... it sure sounds like T and X are picking up right where they left off in 2007... yikes! Congrats T on the impressive win and I am sure that LexCath will use this experience to get better.
  8. It's the only class that matters, baby!!!!:thumb:
  9. Well, Division I in Ohio just got a lot more interesting... As for the comment about Trinity being the favorite against Saint X, I suspect that the learning curve for X will be steep, given that they start so many new people this year. Especially if they get their starting QB back soon (which should be the case), I wouldn't count Saint X out just yet. As for Highlands and Colerain... well, what can you say? I still think that it will be better than it was in 2005. On the up side, if HHS does go down in the game, Highlands very well may be able to say that they lost to the eventual D-I champ in 2008. Hopefully they'll stay perfect against KY competition!!!
  10. On a different note, could someone please post who scored for HHS? Any TD passes for Guidugli?
  11. The guru mentioned he heard it was a broken fibula... any idea about what this means for a kid's chances at playing football that season? If it's true, is he going to be out for the whole year? Also, that sucks to hear about Frank... I understand that he was going to be a major contributor on the defensive front in 2008. Hopefully, he will heal from his surgery well. Well, one thing's for sure... with the last-minute loss of Conner (if the injury stuff is in fact true) and the issues with kicking/special teams and holding onto the ball, I think that the coaching staff is really going to earn their paychecks this year. The good news is that this staff has been up to the challenge in years past! I remember the guru writing after the Beechwood scrimmage something to the effect of Highlands not being where they were at the end of 2007... I think that the Bluebirds may go through some growing pains in 2008, in ways that they did not in 2007. Gosh, with the reality of these guys getting injured setting in, it makes me think of a recent post by leatherneck in a different thread, talking about how beat up some of the HHS players were after playing Colerain in 2005... I must admit that this game is starting to scare me, and I'm not talking about the final score. I do hope that the Highlands players are able to stay physically healthy against a Colerain team that just beat Cincy Saint X tonight.
  12. Was the final score 20-18 Male? How did the scoring go?
  13. AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!! What... no game updates on BGP?????:cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::mad::madman:
  14. Come on BF... I know you have some contacts at this scrimmage... how 'bout you give 'em a call!!!!
  15. Any updates about this scrimmage? I think it started 40-45 minutes ago.
  16. I'm surprised there isn't more talk about this scrimmage! It sounds like it will be treated like a "real" game and that the two teams' performances matter a great deal to the two head coaches. It should be one of the best preseason scrimmages in KY this year. I sure hope that some kind BGP'ers provide some scrimmage updates Friday night!!!!!
  17. Come on now... are you telling me that over the past 2-3 years Elder has been a better football team than Trinity?!?!?! Trinity gave Cincy Saint X all they wanted and more for 3 quarters last year... Trinity would have wiped out Elder by at least three scores in 2007. NOTE TO MODS: Please remove this thread ASAP... I'm afraid that when Leatherneck reads what I've been writing about a potential HHS-Trinity series, he's gonna grab his shotgun and take a little trip over to North Carolina!!!!! j/k
  18. True, HHS plays games at Louisville Central, Madison Central, LexCath and Hopkinsville, BUT Highlands stands a better-than-average chance of winning against these programs. My point is that if HHS is going to go through the trouble of playing against teams they will likely lose to, at least let it be games that are close by (the idea of paying for all that travel expense for a 2-3 TD loss doesn't sit well with me). There are plenty of top-tier teams for HHS to play that are located close to Fort Thomas... the 'Birds don't have to travel 1.5 hours to play against first-rate competition! Also, I think I must challenge your point that a Trinity-Highlands game would be more competitive than, say, a HHS-Elder game. I'd take HHS' chances against a team like Elder or Moeller over HHS' chances against Trinity right now. I just don't see how this series would help out HHS, compared to the current system in place. Plus, do you really think that HHS would win more than 3 out of every 10 of these match-ups??? And yes, I know that my viewpoint on this issue is going to be completely opposite of what the Bluebird faithful believe. Gosh, I dread to read what Leatherneck says about this when he reads it!!!!!
  19. Consider this from the Highlands perspective... Highlands already schedules at least a game a year against a team that HHS is the decided "underdog" in. These games, unlike games against teams like LexCath or Central, are usually hard for HHS to win (case in point: Colerain this year). By doing this, Coach Mueller and HHS are given the opportunity to play a "superior" team during the regular season which is of course helpful in preparing for the postseason. This game is almost always played in the Cincinnati area (be it an away game against a Cincy team or a game associated with the Herbie or the Prep Classic played in Cincy). This is good because it saves HHS a long trip. Given that HHS already has this system in place, what's the point of adding another game that HHS will likely not win to the schedule? Let's face it... if Trinity and Highlands played once a year for 10 straight years, the Bluebirds would probably win 2-3 of them. I don't see how a game against Trinity is going to teach HHS something about itself that a game against Elder or Colerain wouldn't. Plus, at least HHS doesn't have to travel so far to play the likes of Elder and Colerain. Under Ohio's Harbin system, these top-tier Ohio teams absolutely love to schedule Highlands, so it's not hard to arrange these contests. In addition, HHS' recent performance against Louisville 6A teams (Saint X and Male) has been frankly less than impressive, AND in recent years (unlike several of the years when HHS has played a big Cincy school) Highlands did not go on to win state (2001, 2002, 2005, 2006). So, it's not like these games against Male and Saint X were particularly helpful in winning a state championship that year. Why would playing Trinity be any different? Why should HHS change the current situation it has created for itself??? PS: Those years I listed above, when HHS played either Male or Saint X (2001, 2002, 2005 and 2006) are exactly the same years that HHS has NOT made it to the state title game since 2000 (HHS won state in 2004 and 2007 and was runner-up in 2003). Perhaps it's bad luck for the 'Birds to play the Louisville "Big Three!" AND, some of those games have gone pretty badly for HHS (cases in point: a 0-45 defeat by Saint X in 2005, a 0-30 loss to Male in 2001, and a 21-35 loss to Saint X in 2006).
  20. Take some good ones! How about a nice close-up of Coach Mueller... that would be a great one!
  21. Well guru, how would you compare HHS and CCH from what you saw this weekend?
